Its crazy how much I started to notice cages once I started planning one. I'm in the beginning stages of making a custom one for my XJ, and this was a great walk around and has some great Ideas in it!

"Shut up bird. Mess around and find out!" So funny, before I closed up the eves in my shop I had dozens of birds living in them and it made it impossible to film, it just sounded like a jungle in the background

Excellent! Thanks a lot for this video. I got some really good ideas even if I am keeping the sport bar with no back seat. You are right about picking up factory bars for the material. I have a 1/2 dozen of them for parts now.

Great video thanks for the tips. The stock roll cage was also meant for a stock Jeep. Mine's definitely way heavier than a stock Jeep now. I will be using some of these ideas. Thanks

I have a TJ, been reading up on what I can do for a cage. Being a drag race fan for a long time, I have been looking at the NHRA rules for cages. I may end up having a buggy built. I just might be overthinking this.
@FlawedOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Luckily you really can’t add anything that’s going to make a cage worse unless it gets welded in horribly. and Jeeps don’t really have. The best part about cage upgrades is you can do them incrementally. Mine was in 3 stages as funds allowed

Hey man, been enjoying your channel. Just sort of breaking into the YJ world and tryna learn stuff and your content has been great for this. Right now mine is fully stock, but I'd love to slowly work my way towards a more fun build. I came across the Poison Spyder full cage on extreme terrain for $1200 while window shopping. Ya, thats twice as much as yours... but with the price increase you mentioned on that front cage kit, and then all the extra stuff you had to do to reinforce the rear it seems like just getting a full kit could be a viable option? I do like the idea of just modifying the stock cage... seems like a fun project. I'm a novice welder and don't have a tube bender and all that but if it can be done with mostly straight tubing or if there's a kit out there that has pre-bent stuff, that would be neat. Alright, I'm rambling, I'll shut up lol. Thanks again for the content, keep it up
@FlawedOffroadАй бұрын
@@tateshepherd523 that sounds like a good deal I thought it used to be more. I hate the stanchions the ps cage uses though it’s so hard to get your feet in and out of the jeep. They basically go straight down from the dash by the speaker to the floor.
@tateshepherd523Ай бұрын
@@FlawedOffroad Good feedback on that cage thanks! Sounds like the DIY version gives you more control and saves some costs. Thanks for the response!
@FlawedOffroadАй бұрын
@ keep in mind those prices I gave were pre-the last two or three rounds of inflation so it might not be all that viable anymore to go that route and save a bunch of money

Ever run full doors? How about the ebrake, did you move it?
@FlawedOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Full doors fit(barely as long as you place the a pillar in the right spot, the door card touches and you have to open door to roll window down.) Whats an ebrake? lmao no this A-pillar blocks it. rather than remove the pedal I have it pushed to the floor for the cage to fit (cables have been removed for years) If you must keep a parking brake the posion spider stanchions allow the brake to stay, at the cost of needing a size 7 foot to get past it lol(I got in scotts old YJ with that cage and it was horrible getting your feet past the PS cage)
@ehask06 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I forgot yours is an automatic. Thoughts on the Genright Stanchions?
@ninja636392 жыл бұрын
Can you still access the e brake pedal or did you have to modify it or what?
@FlawedOffroad2 жыл бұрын
Shoot I didn’t think to mention that. I haven’t had a functional e brake for about eight years but I have an automatic so it doesn’t matter anyway. It absolutely will not fit with this trail gear cage. I have the pedal push down to the floor to clear the cage but there’s no cables hooked up to it anymore anyway
