So first off this vid is a life saver. Never changed these inner retainer clip style u joints before. Dumb design imo. Second, during reassembly of the driver side on my 95 xj, I spun the hub by hand, after tightening the spindle nut to spec. Bearings feel fine but i watched the inner shaft wobble as it spun in the new seal. Steering set straight. Might this be the true source of the mysterious vibrations? Better question, how might i determine if its the stub, or the inner shaft? Kinda liking the look of 100 bucks or so for a whole new cv axle assembly. Heard mixed thoughts on cv vs u-joint
@FlawedOffroad
@FlawedOffroad 6 күн бұрын
@@prochorushanif7307 the cv are great only if you never plan to offroad, idk if I’d trust them it’s awful small (I’ve seen the factory zj ones) If you think about it there’s nothing supporting the shaft from where it goes in the carrier/rides on the seal all the way to where the stub shaft splines through the bearing. It’s normal for a small amount of movement(even super duty Dana 60s do that) The problem is if the stub shaft moves within the wheel bearing, or the u joint itself is so loose it causes movement on the joint itself) Typically the jk moves around much less than old yj/tj/xj style stuff. If it’s a new u joint and your bearing isn’t cooked then it’s probably that normal amount of movement I speak of

For anyone watching this in the future, I wish I had a welder. If I did, my solution for securing the pins holding the press apron up would be to weld something onto the press apron. when the apron is set down on the pins, it can't slide out either side. Specifically, I'd weld a half pipe, sized to fit the pin, onto the press apron and attach a washer to the outside ends of the 4 half pipes. I plan on doing something similar with a 3d printed part.

another clueless "expert" - power goes to the wheel with least traction. Hah! Power does not go anywhere. Power is a measurement of work done. If you mean the force that moves your truck (torque) - that force (torque) always goes equally to both wheels. No matter what you believe. S cience is not about believing. Get your physics book ot. Torque in an open diff is ALWAYS applied equally to both wheels.

I’m just wanting to build an overland suburban. I’ve been thinking about ox lockers for yrs. It’s a budget build so it’s better money spent imo because I don’t need all the extra stuff to have a locker. But the caveat to my hesitation is there’s a lot of people who talk trash on the OX lockers. Is it because they are actually bad or is it because everyone is in a money spending competition? I also like the idea of making everything mechanical and is what I’m building my barn door burb around. NV4500, OX lockers, NP205/203 doubler with triple stick. I’m also potentially keeping it TBI and just going through it with a fine tooth comb and getting it running perfect because it’s just rock solid reliable and it’s capable of cheap upgrades plus a cam upgrade. Long story short I just want to build the truck once and drive it. It’ll only see off-road once in a blue moon so I’m probably just going with a Dana 44/ 14 bolt full float setup.

They should be busy talking trash about arb cause those are the ones that suck. constantly leaking air and you have to tear diff apart to fix. I do use the air shift option but I could easily switch to cable, plus what other locker comes with a $25 part you can install to permalock it if desired? Ox is super under rated for whatever reason.
