One problem is the fear of the unknown. People are happier in their prison than in the open world because they know the prison. They want to get out, they want to be free, but they are also scared of what will happen or they are scared of rejection. That is what keeps people stuck...at least for me it is.

That’s not always the case. I have a wonderful pension waiting for me in 7.5 years. I’ll retire with full pension at the age at 53. I’d love to be able to walk away but I have debt that I need to payoff. I can’t pull out my 401k without penalty and don’t have enough cash on hand and other investments to walk away from my job that sucks the life out of me. I’m the meantime, I pray everyday that I get though another day and doing what I can keep my sanity and eat healthy. Easier said than done?? You know most careers want some education or certifications to go with them. Like you can't just change from Finance to Nursing in a month? If work doesn’t treat you well, you can leave. But I recommend, have another job before jump ship. There are always good/bad in anything. This job she hate, it might have something that she want. Maybe flexibility hours to help with the kids? Maybe some fear of not being marketable? Some changes like new education required time and being parents have lack of time.

I've been at my job about 20 years and I hate it. It's not so much the job but the people and the management are running it into the ground. It's easy to make that decision when your spouse is making $110k+. When I'm making $40-$45k and my wife is making $15k with no college degree, and we both have excellent benefits, it gets a little complicated. Anywhere around here I'd have to take a $5-$6k pay cut and lose my benefits

I’ve been hating my job ever since we got a new supervisor that is unprofessional and shows favoritism. (Yes, I have talked to HR about it. Nothing has changed. Only gotten worse.) Now that I’m 31 weeks pregnant I think it’s best for me to leave. On top of the stress and drama the hours are crappy and I barely get to spend anytime with the child I already have. I’m running for the hills.

I completely get her. I absolutely hate my job and can’t leave it for visa purposes. It’s a horrible feeling to want to leave a place and not being able to. I also don’t know if I want to even work straight after I leave my current job. I just feel like being off for three months and take a break. I’m so over it.

I can totally identify with this lady. I don't feel like i could enjoy doing anything anymore. I'm just tired of it all after over 27 years. It's not my company nor my coworkers. They are great. I'm just tired of missing out on life because i have to prioritize work. I can't get it all done without putting in many nights and weekends. After doing that off and on for over 27 years in various IT jobs, it just gets old. At least she has a husband making a good salary to pay the bills. It's not all on her shoulders. She could work part time or take off to "find herself". Single women never have that freedom. I feel worse because I've saved, but I've recently had so many expensive emergencies that deleted my entire emergency fund plus more. I'll never get to retire, but i really need to.

I'm in the same boat and I searched and this came up. I woke an assembly line too forced to work 60plus hours and kicker is I have a degree. But most jobs do not pay as much as we make without a specialty degree. It doesn't seem realistic to quit and go back to school for more loans and still not make near as much. The only avenue that makes sense for ppl in our situation is to use our income to start our own businesses. Idk, I feel completely stuck. I get it

I've been thinking of applying at the local factory. It's 12 hour shifts, but you get 15 days off a month. Sadly, I have a choice between this and becoming a CNA. They're the only full time jobs with benefits. I'm at my parents house and need money after my job abroad shut down on a 1 day notice. Otherwise, I will have to take part time/no benefits work at a restaurant and save money to move out, which will be too long for comfort. Not much of a choice. if you do night shift they pay just $1 more an hour. I would do day shift, but I am pretty sure I'd be exhausted.

I'm 44 years old and spent 14 years in the oil and gas industry until it basically went kaput in my 2014. it isn't dead, but the industry took a nose dive and didn't really bounce back. I took a few part-time jobs, and it took me a bit to find my niche until 2016, when I became an insurance agent. I did that until 2023. I got burned out. I was running an agency and producing and in 2020 I lost most of my staff, and never really was able to replace them. Now I work for the post office as a mail carrier and it's the easiest job I've ever had and I hate it. I want something more challenging. in hindsight I'm in great shape, but it's just a job.

But I know in two years I will be quite financially stable. But I achieved this by saving and not going on vacation for a few years. When I use to go on vacation I just knew it was a short escape before going back to the job I hated. This has only been in last five years as I enjoyed my job before, doing the same but different place. I took a better paid job and financial stability, but I feel I have got what I need from it and now I can change.

All of this is easier said then done. I’m in a similar situation and im making the move this spring. I have been thinking aboit opening a franchise for a few years now. Since covid. I want to open a coffee shop in SC so I started packing up my condo and I’m going to put it up for sale in the spring then I want to get an apartment there for a year and start looking to apply for a business loan. I am thinking of staying in this current career part time while opening the coffee shop for benefits like healthcare coverage and keep putting into a retirement plan while running the coffee shop. It’s so scary but at the same time I know I can’t continue this career. I go to work every day angry and hating all of it. My pay is decent and I do know what’s holding me back is fear
