Uh... no, "confidenza" is perfectly valid, I'm not sure where you're getting this from. Maybe it's not used in your region? Here in Torino we use it with that meaning all the time. Straight from Treccani: confidènza s. f. [dal lat. confidentia «fiducia, impudenza», der. di confidens: v. confidente]. - 1. non com. Fiducia: avere c. in sé stessi, nel prossimo; infamia è un segno della pubblica disapprovazione che priva il reo de’ pubblici voti, della c. della patria (Beccaria); sicurezza: ha avuto troppa c. nel buon esito; un eccesso di c. può essere causa di sconfitta in una competizione sportiva.

I speak five languages (English, Italian, German, Spanish and Portuguese) and it isn't true. You just think in another way because of the difference of the grammar but you obviously haven't another personality. Maybe at the beginning, when you don't know well the language you just think in an easily way, but that's obvious because you don't know words. But, anyways, it isn't true

@@konradnoises I'm not sure what those studies are explicitly saying, but I do believe that naming it "double personality" can be very misleading. I speak 4 languages, Chinese Mandarin, Swedish, English and French. When I think or speak in those languages, the language itself influences how I think and speak due to the grammatical structure, cultural ties as well as rhythm and sound. It doesn't change my core values, but it can change how I express myself.

Nathan you have inspired me to live in Italy and learn their beautiful language. Despite living in Ireland all my life, I have always felt this connection with Italia. fratello due correzioni al volo: 1. confidence = sicurezza (sicurezza vuol dire anche "safety" in altri contesti) confidenza = quando sei abbastanza amico con qualcuno da prenderlo per il culo 🤪 "Non dare confidenza agli sconosciuti" (lo dice la mamma ai figli piccoli); "Chi ti ha dato tutta 'sta confidenza?" quando qualcuno esagera e ti tratta come se vi conosceste da una vita, ma in realtà vi conoscete appena. Attenzione: non confonderlo con "Chi ti ha dato tutta questa conoscenza?" che può suonare simile, ma sarebbe assolutamente sbagliato 😆 "Non mi sento sicuro a..." oppure "Non me la sento di..." che può voler dire che non hai voglia di fare qualcosa o che non ti senti pronto a fare qualcosa. 2. Can = Saper (fare) May = Poter (fare) I can drive -> (Io) So guidare (verbo sapere = to know) May I come along? -> Posso (io) venire con voi/te? È normalissimo che si traduca letteralmente all'inizio, ma se vuoi fare il salto di livello, prima di pensare all'intonazione (ne abbiamo un milione e se tu hai la tua inglese it's fine, it's something personal!) prova ad imparare le frasi idiomatiche, ti faranno non solo parlare ma anche pensare come un italiano ;)

The discussion about being perfect in a language reminds me of the quote from Imre Lakatos: "Triviality and certainty are the kinderkrankheiten of knowledge." The idea of speaking a language perfectly is like being certain of a fact. The better one knows a topic the less certain one becomes of its facts. The better one knows a language the more one find there there is still to learn.

Secondo me il consiglio di Giovanni è ottimo! Infatti dire "confidenza" al posto di "sicurezza" quando si parla in italiano è molto comune tra anglofon* e francofon* (avoir confiance en soi, per esempio). Io stessa, avendo vissuto e studiato per anni in contesti francofoni, dicevo spesso "confidenza" al posto di "sicurezza" quando parlavo in italiano. Ovviamente non è sbagliato ma di certo dire "essere sicura di se stessa" ti fa sembrare molto più parlante nativa che dire "avere confidenza in se stessa" 🤣

WOW !! I've seen just a couple of your videos and I'm impressed . I wish I can learn to speak a language that fast . English is my second language and it took a couple of years to learn it . But I'm a true believer that it's never too late and a person it's never too old to learn something as long you want to do it !!

Hey man, I think your italian is really good for someone who's been in Italy for just three months. Don't be too harsh on yourself! I had a russian friend whose english was far worst than yours after three whole years here. I love the passion and care you put in each one of the things you learn and your videos.
