So glad you made it to the ship, safe and sound, lucky you and your bags, we sailed on the Costa Luminosa from Ft. Lauderdale to Venice, March 5th 2020, never made it to Italy, I saw the neos plane and brought back memories the March 19 will be a year that we disembarked in Marseille and flew home, the longest fly as we sat in buses from the port to the airport in Marseille for hours, then flying to Atlanta and sat on the side of the tarmac for more hours, but we made it home safe and sound, some passengers never made out of the SHIP.

Wishing you fair winds and following seas as you continue your journey, Alfie! I am so grateful to you for sharing it with us as it has been a wonderful distraction during the cruise suspension. Early on, I had intentions of offering to buy you a pint if I was lucky enough to sail with you on a future Princess cruise, but now it sounds as though I'll have to book something on P&O to make that happen. I have a technical question for you, though: if missing being at home means you're homesick, and given that it has been 358 days since I disembarked my last cruise and I am really missing being at sea again, wouldn't it stand to reason that I am now seasick? ;) Looking forward to cruising again! Cheers!

Hi Sean, other than a brief mention, it isn't likely that I will discuss much tech in my main videos. However, for your information, I use my mobile phone to film all my videos - formerly a Samsung S8, now an iPhone 11 Pro Max - I use a Rode Smartlav+ mic (on most of my recent videos) and a RGB ring light on a gorilla tripod for lighting. Hope this helps!

Glad that you are getting back aboard. I have a friend who had an entertainment contact on the new Virgin Ship. They were on board for a month doing dry runs then they canceled the contracts right before they started regular cruises. They still hope there is a Virgin cruise line to return to one day. It looked like it was going to be a cool cruise. My family are regular cruisers and I’ve been on dozens from a 80 passenger boat in the Galapagos to a couple of the monster party barges out of South Florida. I look forward to them reopening. I figure the cruise lines are going to be working hard to get us back. The good news is that the US will be vaccinated by the end of July....at least those which will take the vaccine. I’m one of the lucky 10% that has been vaccinated. Hopefully it works against the variants that come up before we can vaccinate the world.

Wrote this when you first mentioned you were going on the Explorer but later you mentioned Encounter instead. Oh well, we did the Pacific Explorer twice, last time in Nov 2019, travelled on her as the Dawn Princess about 5 times before that, Hawaii return, circumnavigated Australia, Australia and NZ etc to name some of the longer cruises we took and that ship became like home away from home. Sad to have seen her go to P&O in 2017 but at least we knew the layout if not the rebranded dining, lounges, bar and theatre names. One fabulous show though that was produced on the Explorer was called Seven (based on the 7 deadly sins) . Glad to have seen it again, memorable even now. However food not as good as Princess I thought. They didn't have a 'sugar free' or 'gluten free' chef or section even though they tried to accommodate, bit yuck some of it. Any Cruise at the moment would be a thrill, booked for January 2022 Sapphire Princess so let's hope it goes ahead. I hope you enjoy the Encounter.

Glad to see you're back at sea ! I was wondering how you had been doing and if you had decided to go to a totally different business. is the Pacific Explorer split into red and not-red zones for those in quarantine and those not like you had seen in early days of transfers for warm layups? How do you feel about Canada removing any uncertainty about cruises to Alaska in 2021? Is it more realistic and better for planning than having a contantly shiifting restart date? Curious to see how cruise lines will handle over 2000-5000 people at a cruise ship terminal waiting to board. And if they only allow those who got vaccine, what sort of valid verifyfiable certificate they will accept. You mentioned domestic cruises, alas, they are not allowed in the USA (unless it is a cruise to nowehere returning to departing ship since you then not transporting americans from one poimt in USA to another on a foreign vessel). What sort of restructiosn are expected for ships sailing out of Australia? What sort of itineraries?

On the 2020 World Cruise on the Pacific Princess, we docked in Sri Lanka but we were prohibited from disembarking. It was a technical call only. We set sail for the Seychelles, but turned back to Australia 🇦🇺 after only one day. We ended the cruise in Fremantle a few days later - 3/20/2020 - almost a year ago. We were forced to fly home from Perth. Our 45 hours of flights from Perth to Sydney, Sydney to Honolulu, and then back to Denver included 4 hours in the Perth airport, 5 hours in the Sydney airport, and 12 hours in the Honolulu airport - and 2 red eye (overnight) flights. What a nightmare - worse than yours! At least you are back at sea! I’m shoveling snow - and dreaming of being back at sea! Happy Tuesday from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Alfie. 36 hours. Oh my I'm tired after that journey. (WHEW) My biggest wonder is were you required to get the vaccine for this upcoming 3 month, or maybe more, work period? I'm guessing yes. I saw on the TV behind you that you were filming the cabin scene on Feb 20/21. So I'm guessing you're on the Pacific Explorer by today's date of March 2/21. Can you tell us approx. how many staff were on the Pacific Encounter to get you to your ship? I'm also wondering if you were able to get onto the bridge of the Pacific Encounter before your transfer? Because of your position with Princess. Or did you not need to visit the bridge for this portion of your trip to the Explorer? Now I'm going to go over to P&O's website and see what type of cruises you'll be doing for the next 3, or so, months? I'm ready for another Vlog when you are Alfie!!!
