Primitive skills practitioners seems to be the most genuine people around. So many are willing and excited to share their knowledge, many asking for nothing in return. Thank you for such a great interview.

I’ve seen that a lot. I think this man is a large reason that part of the culture is the way it is.

This is an awesome interview. You don't see this kind of production quality outside of big name studios. You definitely created a valuable archive here.

Hey, thank you. I made this quite a few years ago and thought the production quality was only okay. So I appreciate that. I* like to think I can do better now.

Thanks for posting this! After earning my survival merit badge, I wanted to learn more and my parents got a copy of his Outdoor Survival Skills book (early 1970s). It was and remains a great resource!

I plan on it. They just cost a lot of money for gas and travel. As I save up enough for the trips I’ll be filming.

I'm a former Boy Scout and an Eagle Scout. I've always been drawn to the survival aspect. I bought a survival book when I was in my late twenties that just happened to be written by Olsen. While there were some things that I was well practiced in, a few others that I had done, there were many I had no idea. We've moved a few times since and don't know where the that book is.

I'm saddened hearing Larry passed. It's very strange how I have found a perfectly new copy of Outdoor Survival Skills in my "important" book collection. No one wrote anything in the front like a gift and no one remembers giving it to me. I wanted to tell him, but now I can tell you, Campbell and also TJack, that after a couple years on the side, I now make Native American style flutes full-time, with the particular whistle mechanism that is, indeed, unique to North American indigenous woodwinds (the fipple arrangement is sort of upside-down compared to the usual kind that evolved simultaneously elsewhere). " Otter Lake Flutes " if you'd like to see them. Traditional acoustics are awesome and addictive. No one has to play or listen to anything that bores them... many styles can be played (I like the kind that wakes me up, not puts me to sleep). When I saw the wood on an antique table saw, at a certain time of year, I get bombarded by cicadas who think I'm producing a mating call!
