Very nice tutorial. I made 10 of these for an upcoming arts and crafts show my wife is part of. When switching from the snake knot to the cobra I used one of each color for the cobra knot instead of two he same for a different effect on several.

These *Paracord Keychains* are quickly becoming my new favorite hobby and I appreciate you sharing this recent video! I just finished making this one and even though it has a standard 'chrome' split ring, I still really like the two color-combinations. Using oddball brand paracord to make these (the kind you find at your local Walmart or Ace Hardware, for example) and am now convinced I need to give your suggested Amazon paracord manufacturers a try. Thank you for sharing this content and looking forward to the next video!

I really like the sharpie at the end, I never liked seeing the white showing thru after the cords are cut and burned.

I also dislike seeing white blobs at the melted ends and often black marker doesn't look great either with some colors. Here is an option for you to try. Cut the paracord leaving about 1/4" to 1/2" longer than you normally would. Pull back the outer sheath of the cord and cut off the inner white cords so that you have a length of hollow sheath at the end. When you melt it it will be the same or similar to the color of the cord with no white blob. If you melt it a lot, the colored blob can be left to turn blact but it will be smooth and very shiny and ebony like. That blob can be left in a dome shape or it can be flattened with a smooth metal ruler which will also leave it flat but shiny and smooth.

I have a question about tension. I do some knitting & crocheting, and when I started I never understood what others mean about tension on the yarn until years later someone explained to me. So when it comes to using paracord making these intricate designs, how tight should they be? Obviously not too lose or you'll see gaps, would assume. I'm currently making a bracelet adding a charm to it that I would like to wear, using the cobra design. However I came to a snag where I would tend to pull on it too tight to the point where it will curl and not be a little flat. So I'm trying to keep the core middle strands flat side-by-side so they don't curl and overlap. Basically how much tension is needed to get the overall outcome. I hope you make a video about it. I'm more of a visual learner. Thank you for your time to read this.
@paracordwizard
@paracordwizard 2 жыл бұрын
I find with most designs with paracord, the knots need to be pulled really tight. It is important if you want to keep the shapes. Over time and with wear and exposure to water, often paracord will tend to twist and if the knots are loose the shape of the design may migrate away from the way you intended it to look. There are thousands of charms and beads, and gizmos designed to be attached to paracord. They come in a huge number of shapes and sizes. However not all charms go well with all weaves / knots. Depending on what you consider important in the design, you may need to choose a different charm or use a different knot. And I think using strong tension on the knots produces the best results with paracord.

Tim, thanks you for another great design. I have some Ukranian friends and I decided to make them some with their national colors and a couple of tweaks to the design. - I used both colors for the active part of the cobra section. - Terminated both loose strands at the keyring end of the cobra section at the same point, melting them together in order to make it more difficult for the knots to come apart during use as a keychain. - Melting the other 2 loose ends at the botton of the snake knot loop can be a bit tricky and messy. Therefore rather then terminating those ends at the bottom of the snake knot section, while forming the cobra core, I cut the cords approx 1/2" short of the snake knot loop so that the weaving cords of the cobra section would conceal and bind them and no melting was required. Here is a photo if you wish to see what it looks like. drive.google.com/file/d/1FmyEw0Pjf4xG85yEvktr5B4x2-yEuqNm/view?usp=sharing Cheers, Murray
