I feel that. As a kid I used to think my worth was measured by my mom's pride in me. If i got bad grades I would get scolded for making her look bad in front of the other parents. When I was 15 we were supposed to choose between 3 education fields that would later determine what universities we can apply for. I had no idea what the hell *I* wanted because *I* had never felt like my preferences are important so it was never something I had carefully considered. I ended up picking the most standard choices that the majority picked and now I'm in a university I hate, studying towards a job I already dread. I still have no idea what I might actually want instead
