My Knitting Machine Broke - Sentro Knitting Machine Review

I bought this same machine and had the same sort of issues you had. I took it apart and cleaned it and lubricated it and continued having issues. Turns out it isn't big enough to accommodate normal worsted weight yarn. You have to use 3 weight yarns, DK yarns or very thin worsted weight yarns like the one it came with. I was very annoyed by this but am going to see if I can find more yarns that work with it. Thin worsted like Mandala or baby weight like Baby Bernat works with it. It's an unfortunately poorly designed addi knock off. The sinker posts and needles are just a little smaller than the 40 and 48 needle Sentros and it doesn't leave enough room to properly knit worsted yarn. The freeze up and subsequent gear slipping are because the top of the machine is literally pulling in on itself with the yarn.

First off the tension is too tight. Use the first hole on the tension peg. I just bought the little sentro to replace my old one that I had for years. Don't force the yarn through the machine. Keep it light and loose.

I purchased the small addi. Now they have a booklet where they show how to make larger projects with it. I am thrilled. My Santro which I ordered from Amazon did not work well. It was a Santro that I received plus it had been used previously because I received two used skein done in a tube. I returned it. I’ll save up later for a larger addi. Thanks for your videos.

I have the same issue with the crank. This is my second I could return it 2nd one couldn't return it past the return date. I have used different yarn weights. The crank turns great going counter clockwise but nit clockwise.

The yarn that comes with it, some yarns aren't spun great so it'll get stuck at times....mine a 40 works when it wants and picky!!! How were you able to get the owl on your pillow?

I have a 22 needle plastic Singer machine and I use it to make socks. I just got a 48 needle Sentro a few weeks ago and it is much smoother, but I still love my 22 needle machine ♥

Try another 22 pin sentro, I've had mine for two years and done hundreds of projects on it and it's still working well. I do take it apart and oil the moving parts from time to time to keep it running smoothly.

I had the same happen to me but on the bigger sentro, I think I accidentally hit it on panel instead of tube when I had it in my lap to cast off. so naturally thought I broke it also. Didn't realize I did that until it happen again with another sentro bigger machine. But all that have said you have to use smaller weight thin yarn are correct! Ashamed I'm seeing this post years later.

Had a question … my 48 needle Sentro is dropping whole rows🤦🏻‍♀️ right from the start of my project. It has worked perfectly and now this! Ugh. Took it apart and can’t figure out what’s wrong. Tried different yarns but still dropping continuously. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong?😩

Try adjusting your tension , it maybe too loose. Go slowly and really watch for problems like the yarn sticking on top of the needles. Also can try cleaning and lubing your machine and make sure everything is aligned. I had the same problem with my sentro spitting the yarn out or dropping stitches, my tension guide was worn on the middle hole and I had to order the replacement tension guide.That really helped.

I've found that using the tension device causes too much tension no matter which hole you use. I pull out 4-5 rounds worth of yarn from the skein, then use my fingers to apply very light tension. I have better control and no problems.

Hi, thank you for showing us the video of the damage. This error occurs for me too. I hope you were able to send it back and get your money back. I think it will happen to the others too over time. It's the crank of the gears, they simply wear out, which shouldn't happen. I have now bought an electric one from Amazone, it is square. 😘💯❤

I’m so glad I saw this video! I was going to order this, happy I didn’t. In the mean time I was searching for both Addi’s. Found in stock the Express on Etsy. Bought it. Coming from Germany. I think it’s worth it. Did a lot of research and videos on both Addi machines. I’m hoping the big one will become available soon. I have large Sentro, have had it since Christmas Eve. I’ve made about 6 hats. Mine does stick some. But I found Hobby Lobby I Love This Yarn works great in it. Once I get going, doesn’t stick so much. Get the Addi’s when & if you can. GBU! 💕👍😁

Hi, the same thing happened on a generic machine from China probably. I took it all apart, rings, and all to study and learn. One of the gears right next to the handle had broken in multiple places. I was ignorant of the thinner yarn situation so I bet it happened on a thicker size 4. Either way, now I know,...only size 3 also called DK weight. Wished I could afford an actual Addi King size, but I got a 48 Sentro and so far so good and only size 3.

I had exactly that problem with mine. Lasted a handful of projects and bam! The handle just jammed up! So disappointed. Left it too late to return it so trashed it. My tension wasn’t to tight either. It worked perfectly for a few weeks!

On my large sentro , i will say this, try caron simply soft. It runs like butter. I also got some yarn from hobbii yarn. They are located in denmark. I got yarn from them and it is European dk yarn. The dk yarn is what would be inbetween a sport yarn and a worsted weight yarn here in th u s. It is lovely yarn and runs beautifully through the sentro.

Hi Serfronya. I went on internet and end up on Amazon. Lots of customer reviews on the 22 needle with the same issue. So it's a common issue. check it out. I also noticed there are a couple of 22 needles that have the thread tensioner that looks like the Addi. The reviews were low for it too. Yeah it does say toy but I would return a $50 plus toy too if it no longer worked after two weeks. I had plannseed on getting this size too. but thanks to your experience and the Amazon reviews I will wait for the new and improved.. I plan on saving up for the Addi to see if I'm still interested in the whole art. LOL. Thanks again.

I have the same machine and use it several times. I do have the sticking at times but mine is still working. My friend found it at a thrift store for only fifty cents. So who knows what it went through before I got it. Like you Im wanting the Addi but Im going to keep playing with my toys for awhile before investing in one.

If you are looking for a 22 needle machine I would purchase the Addi Pro. Yes, it cost more, but it is definitely durable and good for knitting items for sale. If you hear that grinding noise you do not push it, for you are stripping the gears. If you were left handed you might turn the handle counter clockwise. Is the Addi worth it? YES!!!!!! I own both the Addi King and the Addi Pro, as well as the Sentro 46 needle, and 8 flatbed knitting machines.

I just got this today and had immediately the same sticking problem, but not without yarn! I shouldve seem this first. From all the research I've been doing it sounds like it's worth investing in the Addi 22. I've got the Sentro 48, but wanted a 22 needle. I bet if you (or I!) get the Addi we'll notice a big difference in performance. As you say, although it can be functional, and a lot of people use them, this is just a toy. 🤷

I also just received my Sentro 22 yesterday....same thing with the needles....Very dissapointed....I have a Sentro 48 and a Addi 46 needle. I think the Addi works a lot better....but the Sentro also works good, but I think the type and size makes a difference. Before I return the small Sentro, I'm going to try 3 wt yarn. Crossing my fingers!!!

I know this is an old video, thank you for sharing your review. I have a 22 needle pink and white singer knitting machine and it was way cheaper than the sentro 22 needle and works beautifully. It's not the one that sits upright it's got 4 legs and it's been working well since I've had it, and on the box it does say its a toy but it performs way better than that.

addi all the way. i purchased the big addi from amazon warehouse, someone had returned it cos there was a mark on it., so i got it half price, 70 hats later, still going strong, knits anything i put on it. when you are looking always check to see if there are alternative buyers cos you never know when you can pick up a bargain.

I had a 22 needle machine, it did exactly this. We took it apart, put the hand back in place, and it happened again. I returned it. So dissapointing. I ordered another one. So far so good. If this one fails, I will get the addi express.

To be honest its a toy. Its not designed for heavy use but to use every now and then. From what ive seen it makes a basic knit/pearl pattern that you could learn to hand knit quite easily. Having said that if it helps you with your creativity good for you😊

I got this machine for my daughter, she made about 7 long scarfs on it before it started sticking always in the same place. I think it is hard to cast on the stitches with the two plastic circles on either side of the yarn guard. I would not recommend this machine.

I’m convinced this 22 is literally a scam based on how many people I know that has these exact same issues. I have a brand new one that does the same thing. I bought a Rose Art knit & gem machine at the thrift store yesterday for $1 and I did a side by side test of the two today and the Rose Art works flawlessly compared to the Sentro. I knitted 50 rows on the Rose Art with no problem. I didn’t even make it five rows on the Sentro before the gears jammed. Unfortunately the Rose Art machine says it’s from 2005 and the only place you’ll find one today is eBay or if you’re lucky you’ll find one at a thrift store. The Rose Art is also marketed as a toy but boy does this thing work amazing compared to the Sentro.

Omg. Get the Addi! You will not be sorry! The same thing happened to me with Michael’s loops and thread machine. The handle would not turn the needles. I did not make it through one hat! Since then I got both Addis. The 46 pin and the 22 pin. You can tell right away the difference in the quality of the Addi machines. Plus you can use heavier weight yarn and not be limited like the Sentro machines

I ordered this in November a day it finally arrived today and I am having the same problem. It shipped from China, so I'll just eat the 30.00, but will be leaving a review letting people know this machine isn't a good one. My 48 needle machine works much better. Maybe someday I'll treat myself to an Addi. Such a shame, because I had so many ideas in mind for this small one.

That is probably the case Glenda. The product is misleading because it comes with a couple of size 4 yarn samples when they should probably be size 3.

Hello, did you ever return your machine? Since mind was doing exactly what yours is doing I decided to return mind. WELL it will cost me 75% of the cost of the machine to return it to China. Amazon sends you a shipping label to return to China. I guess I will be keeping mind and try what Justin shared.

I have the large Addi and I absolutely love it. But I here rumors that availability won’t be until next year. I wanted to get the small Addi but opt for the small Sentro since the small Addi is higher than what I paid for for my large one several years back! Yikes! I guess bc of supply and demand. So I just got my Sentro and will keep it at a yarn thickness of 3 only. Also don’t buy the Addi Egg. IT’S HORRIBLE!

UPDATE: Not even 2 weeks and it’s broken. Very sad that you wait this long to get it, then when you do,it last only days. I used only thin yarn and that didn’t help! Can’t return- will cost more to return, so haggling with the seller to at least give back a large sum of my money back, but I doubt they will comply. Absolute trash. If you want to throw your money away, this is the machine to buy 👍🏼 Addi mini, here I come. Shouldn’t of doubted myself and got that already!

The handle could of been fixed. The handle is sold on eBay.
