Great footage Mark, well done and thank you. The behaviour of the kujaku male warding off the other male is something I've never seen before and wouldn't believe without having seen your previous video.

Glad it worked out for you mate.. if you use a red light the fish can’t see it so you can watch without them being disturbed
@MarkGardnerNTVfree4 жыл бұрын
there's enough ambient light to see them anyway, just not film clearly.

Hi Mark. Great news. I watched last years spawning vids and this year seemed much more successful. Hopefully some fantastic looking fry

Fingers crossed. Some lessons learned from 2019, particularly in preparation of the female, and more thought given to placement of spawning brushes.

Curious as to why you didn't choose to artificially inseminate to increase the fertilization rate instead opted for the natural process?
@MarkGardnerNTVfree4 жыл бұрын
L Vang - this year fully planned to do so, have McDonald hatching jars imported from USA especially for the purpose. Unfortunately UK social distancing rules due to Corona meant that I would have had to carry it out on my own. As such decided to go with natural. Even an average fertilisation rate, given the number of eggs, will be more fry than I can likely accommodate at present so not a major problem anyway.

Seems very successfull. Can the mallikite be put in while spawning ,which would make more sense to me rather than later. Thanks for a great vid
@MarkGardnerNTVfree4 жыл бұрын
nope, you can actually add malachite green to a pond to stop Koi spawning!!

@al20o334 жыл бұрын
you probably needed much warmer water
@MarkGardnerNTVfree4 жыл бұрын
Keith Gregory why did I need warmer water?
@al20o334 жыл бұрын
@@MarkGardnerNTVfree You are right, I learned from watching the videos on the Japanese Koi breeding farms where warm water temperatures was one of the the things they mentioned was important for the koi to spawn. So, since it appeared cold in your video I thought maybe that was a reason it took more time to get the spawn going. If I am wrong then sorry.
