Growing up outside my home country, one rule my parents enforced right away was speaking to us in French and doing everything possible to make sure we didn't forget our native language. I’m truly grateful to them for that because otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to communicate with my family or understand my own culture. So, I think it’s really cool that you’re planning to do that with your baby, but from what I’ve understood from my mother, it’s not always easy. Good luck!🙂
@sisselabАй бұрын
I’m so happy to hear you say that! I’ve met many people who’s parents moved abroad or who are half something and wishing that their parents had made them speak back as well in the specific language. I’m very determined haha 🙈💚

When you were talking about growing up and having the space to try and fail and not being afraid to try new things, i felt myself getting upset toward myself and my experiences growing up because i didn't have the same space for that. I grew up in a sort of traumatic environment and in a state of hyper-vigilance. but when you said "I'm only sitting here right now because I have overcome everything else that I've gone through. You too." thank you so much for saying this. it made every discouraging thing i told myself go away. i needed that reminder so thank you, Sissel.

Aw, Sissel, I love how authentic and in tune with your feelings and intuition you are, a dreamer that's so down to earth and lives mindfully, that's why I followed you. I'm sure you'll raise your baby to be confident, genuine, compassionate and free like your parents raised you to be, and a fluent trilingual as well! It's so true what you said about modern societies trying to break children and people in a thousand pieces instead of raising them strong and free to their full potential. From school, to workplace to even pop culture and social media. That's why role models like you and Pippi are so imporant. I'm studying a multidisciplinary master's on the science of stress (a lot of psychoneuroimmunoendocrinology, children's development and stress management) and it's a stretch if I tell you that even two of our professors practice what they teach. Yet it seems you integrate so much of it naturally in your daily life. I was blown away when one of our professors who worked in Norway and Sweden showed us how mothers are supported all throughout their pregnancy by health professionals giving them personalized lessons on everything related to how to care for their babies, from breastfeeding and bathing them to nutritional advice for both mother and child, I wonder if it is the same in Denmark too. In my country, mothers are mostly left to figure it out on their own. It'd be interesting if you made video comparing different aspects of what pregnancy and motherhood are like in Denmark compared to South Korea. I loved it when you showed us the children's books you took from home. The 10000 steps your midwife and doula suggested are a gold standard recommendation for all adults, it's so good you are keeping active, both for you and your son! Exercise such as this (combined with some appropriate muscle strengthening of about 90minutes a week or HIIT, after you start weaning), a well balanced, plant-rich diet, good sleep and avoiding all screens 2-3 hours before bedtime are a foundation for a healthy lifestyle. Combined with mindfulness, meditation, diaphragmatic breathing and other stress management techniques they are the core for a well balanced life. You are spot on for protecting your child from all types of screen time, the newest recommendations suggest no screen time for under 5 year olds and very limited, closely monitored time onwards through puberty and until adulthood. There is so much data on how it adversely affects brain and overall child development (cognitively, socially, mentally, physically) and we are still scratching the surface and learning along. The most critical times in a human's development, that we are most susceptible to life long consequences due to stressors, are since conception in utero through the first five years of life and all throughout adolescence. These critical periods are a time of rapid development and great plasticity, thus providing excellent ground for healing when in a nurturing environment. A particular challenge you might face as a parent and an influencer is whether you will bring your child to the spotlight too. As important as it is for a positive and mindful person like you to share your experience with motherhood with your platform, I strongly advise you to do it while keeping your children off camera. Educate yourself very well on how this type of exposure and fame affects a child's development and identity formation before you do it. Consider how your child is in no position to consent to any aspect of their life being broadcasted or the digital footprint they form, long before they have managed to form themselves. How you will not be able to reverse this desicion retrospectively. Think about your child's right to privacy and what effect the exposure and comments may have on their view of the world and themselves. Then, ofcourse, comes the issue of safety. Both physical safety from possible stalkers, as well as from online exploitation from predators, as social media accounts that feature minors are heavily targeted by p3dophiles, (statistically, the biggest the following, the biggest percentage of them grows amongst it), and a lot of content posted by parents ends up, unbeknownst to the parents, to p3dophile related websites. Well that ended up being a short essay, but your earnesty and kindness has touched my heart, I wanted to share some knowledge in return. Education is power, but a parent who listens to their intuition and is in tune with their child's needs has the wisdom to raise them with the love and care needed for the child to develop and blossom into their authentic self. Happy birthday and many more to come! I'm sending your family all the best wishes for abundant health, love, and happiness, may you all enjoy every moment of life!

First of all: Happy Birthday!!! 🎉 I hope this year will be the best, with every year just getting better and better 🩵 And second: I so felt your conversation about confidence and playing your own abilities down. I was so confident before highschool. I do not know what happened but now I feel like I lose my identity, me, myself. I gave up everything I can do. And now I'm scared of everything and its effects me. I can't start anything that I want to. I realized that now because of the way you talked about yourself and the way you treated. I expect that people do something for me when its my birthday. now I understand that I should love myself and I should do something for myself only before expect someone to do it for me. Thank you for helping me in a way.
@Sorga2059Ай бұрын
I like what you said about confidence in one’s abilities and that you linked it to your childhood. Because that’s an important aspect. Children rarely doubt their abilities. I see it every day in my work. You say, let’s do this, they’ll go straight ahead, no doubts, and they even challenge themselves to do more and they love new experiences. And as we grow up, people, society, problems, etc. erode our confidence and our strength to embrace the unknown. If only we could always remember that child in us. Of course motherhood isn’t easy but trusting ourselves to do our best in any situation and change is better, healthier than proceeding with fear. Take care.

Making long-term friendships is so much trickier as an expat and in the future, I would love to have a friendship group filled with people who are as kind and supportive as you and your friends are.

Plus, here's a beautiful birthday song for you and the baby. Here goes -- "Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday Dear Sissel, Happy Birthday to You!"😀😙💙💙💙💙💙💙🇺🇸🌷🇰🇷💚🎇🎉💚🎇🎉💚🎇🎉💚🎂😊⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍
It's so great that you're feeling awesome and aren't having that many aches and pains. I had trouble with groin pain starting maybe 7mths in and the last few weeks even slow walking was kinda painful - it stopped immediately after giving birth, so that at least was nice. Regarding the screen time - good ideas. My kiddo is soon to be 3 and his screen time is max. 3 episodes of Paw Patrol or some other kid program (comes up to an hour). Usually the full time isn't used (and if he's sick, we can go over that time). And only tv. I think it's much preferable over pads or phones or anything that the kid can have control over. Because small kids will have short attentions spans and mine will start playing with his toys or dancing or whatever in the middle of an episode if it's not engaging him anymore, but if he was using a pad and could just switch to another episode or start fiddling over, that wouldn't happen and I think it would be feeding into him having an even shorter attention span. Oh you know what, even us in Finland had that Swedish Pippi Longstocking show - I think it was only subtitled in Finnish and I was so young I didn't even understand Swedish but I really liked to watch it.

Definitely be cautious about screen time, as im sure you know there is so many dangers lurking on the online world, and i have seen lots of videos showing the before and after effects of screen time on young childrens behaviour in terms of increased , aggression, frustration, crying , affects their ability to delay gratification, their focus and attention span etc but i know everyone can be slightly different etc

100%. They’re not gonna have a screen at all unless it’s for education for the first two years 💚

Happy belated birthday Sissel 🎉🎉🎉🎉 when I grew up I also watched Pipi Langkous (Dutch language) and it’s a great mindset to teach your child not to be afraid of trying new things. I’ve played Scopa a lot with my Italian friends, not that I was very good in it but I had a lot of fun 😊

It's so awesome that you're gonna do the work to pass on danish to your kid, I love our language so much, even if people say it sounds like we have a potato in our mouth when speaking. Just a fun fact to remember as they grow up though, is that when compared to learning other languages, kids learning danish are naturally a little slower to learn the language, simply due to how complex and weird the danish language is! It should be fine and comparable to other languages' process at around age 9 though, so no worries ❤
