My Latest Makes August 2019

This week I'm sharing my latest makes from the new Closet Case Rome collection - a set of super modern sewing patterns designed to work as a capsule wardrobe. I made the Cielo dress then made the Cielo top version after I loved the dress so much. Hear about my fabric choices, the differing construction techniques I chose for each garment and why I love them so much. Like the top better than the dress. I see what you mean about the shoulders. More so I'd like the fabric that you use for the top. I would have to make it longer because I'm way too old to wear a crop top.

Yes it is a lovely fabric and it is easy to make the pattern longer, I initially did this just in case I thought it was too cropped then decided it wasn't, but it would be very easy to make longer if you wanted to.

Your cropped shirt fabric is very nice. Thank you for the i formation. I have not used this pattern. I like that its good to have both the top and dress. Must be a good pattern for you to reuse this pattern...good job!

Getting the right fot is important. And if this pattern helps with alterations for fit? No wonder you like it!

I can't remember if there are any instructions for fit in the pattern, but there are lots of tutorials for techniques included. The fit for this pattern is generally very easy because it is a loose fitting design so that's great.

I like how these both turned out. I did totally enjoy the part where you hopped up on the chair to show the length of the dress. So funny to me to see (very low tech).

Thank you Tania, glad you like the info, I think it is important to share that it isn't always straightforward with fit. It took me a long time to really understand fitting for my body and I always think there's more to learn too.

I love your dress! Perfect for autumn too with a roll neck underneath. I would love to make one, but would be afraid of trying to work out a narrow shoulder adjustment with that yoke. Thank you for the vlog.

Yes a few people have said that and I couldn't agree more. My advice would be to trace the pattern pieces off and have a play around first then you'd be confident you have it right before tackling the real thing.

I can also see the Cielo dress in a wool type for winter with boots. The Rome collection looks like wardrobe staples.

Thank you for this wonderful review. The pattern is on my list, but I didn't dare to do, because the shoulder yoke scared me a bit.

The yoke is nice and easy to sew if you don't need to make any adjustments in this area. I have forward shoulders and a high round back so I always have to adjust across the back and shoulders, but if you don't have these issues the yoke is very, very straightforward.

I love these makes especially the top. It's a perfect fit for you. Know wonder you want to keep wearing it. I like the little details of the yolk and the cuffs.I think the pattern is a bit expensive but it is one you can use again and again and I was looking for a woven pattern as all my patterns are for knits. I think I am going to buy this. Is it available in pdf or just paper?

We just sell a paper version, I'm not sure if it is available in PDF I'm afraid. Yes there is certainly a lot of mileage in this pattern with additional options I haven't made yet too.

I followed the guidelines on the packet so just over a metre for the top and 2m for the dress.

I do like both of these items but do think the dress looks a bit like Scrubs/ overallish type of thing. I think it’s just the colour that makes me think that,, otherwise it’s a really nice style on you xxx

Haha I'm not going to lie the thought did cross my mind, but once it is accessorised with the right jewellery and shoes etc it is fine. I've worn it to dinner at a friend's house and for a work meeting today and felt nice and glam.
