For those of you that follow me on FaceBook you may have seen my post about my latest visit to my “local” Ollie’s store. They had about six or seven different kits to choose from. So, of course, I just had to get a couple.
So, in today’s video I will be showcasing the kits that I got as well as an unboxing of one of them just to get a peek at what’s inside.
I hope that you enjoyed watching this video as much as I did building the kit.

Ollie’s is the truth. Their selection might be small, but you can’t beat the prices! 👀💯🔥

For me it is a 50 mile drive to go to my nearest Ollie's but is definitely worth the trip but is sometimes a gamble whether they have any in stock or not. So, I only pop in when I happen to be in the area on other business.

Thanks for the tip. I went to my local Ollie’s today and picked up the AMT Surf Shark 59 Cadillac and the63 Nova station wagon which I’ve built once before in Coke livery and was a great easy build. Lol, I used to cruise Gratiot back in the day too.

You're very welcome! Ollie's has the best prices going for model kit purchases right now. The Surf Shark goes together really nice and has endless build possibilities. The 63 Nova wagon has some great possibilities as well. The only down side is the "Craftsman Series" version of that kit because it doesn't have an engine but it does have an open bay if you happen to have an extra engine that you can install. I used to hang out at the Macomb Mall and the Gratiot drive in then and just watch the the vans with big murals and the muscle cars drive by. It was like going to a car show with free admission back in those days. Of course, I'm talking about the 1977-1979 time frame. The big mural van craze went away shortly after that. I left the state in 1980 to move to Florida. Two years later I was in the Navy and twenty years later I was retired and living back in Michigan. Thanks for watching and have fun with those builds!

My local Ollie’s is about 20+ miles away too so I understand how it goes when we can’t get there weekly. Nice finds!

Thank You! According to Google maps, my local Ollie's is a bit over 45 miles away. I only get down that way about once a month or so. I never really thought about how far it was exactly. I will just pop in when I have an appointment near there.

great video...that Sherman looks like the old 1968 Aurora kit. .CA/super glue will bind the track ends, but scuff off the mold residue at the contact area first ..

Thank You! and thank you for the advice! You may be correct on the origins of this kit. Atlantis Co. have been pulling really old molds out of storage and this may be one of them. I have put that tank on the back burner for quite a while now. I should break it out and get it built. I'm currently working on four different kits and I have run out of room for any more but this tank will be coming soon. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I built the Nova wagon and the Surfer Van on the channel. They both turned out pretty good. I have to say that I am not a fan of the "Craftsman Series" lineup from AMT and R2. Every car should come with an engine, it's the heart of the car after all... Thanks for watching!

I think you want to use super glue on those tracks. David Damek over on Plasmo builds lots of armor; maybe you could check some of his builds out. I’m picturing myself back in the 70’s, building that tank, and maybe even the helicopter. They’d have been painted Testor’s gloss green, horribly, but I’d be thinking I nailed it.

Thanks for the advice, I'll check that out. I have never built any of these in the past, so this is all new to me. Not that I deem it to be to difficult for me. It's just not what I normally build and I wanted to get out of the "Comfort Zone". I have plans for that Helicopter and what it will look like when it's finished. I think that it will be awesome! Thanks again

I have solution from a old modeler from the 60s...i used to build tanks till i burned out....i used to get black thread n needle n sew the track together or melt the two tabs at the end of track....in the 60s n 70s the tracks didn't have tabs...thank you Tamiya

Thanks for the advice! I have been putting off building this tank due to the track problem as well as the many small parts involved. I think that I just might use your advice for the track assembly.

I'm not that far behind you in age and I totally agree with your sentiment. I've had folks in the past tell how I should have built a kit a certain way. I figure that if you're looking at what I built, it's done and the likely hood that I will change it is nearly zero percent. Thanks again for the advice on that track I'm going to tackle it again soon.

Yep, I'm a Navy vet n I build them for fun...in my neighborhood I'm the only one who builds model kits...I moved on to service trucks.... paint n weather them in detail......to me I have fun n listen to Casey kasem n that's my therapy

I'm a Navy vet as well, retired in 2002 after 20 years. I was a Boatswains Mate. I can't say that I miss it a whole bunch. I did like the port visits and the quiet nights on the bridge but there were certain aspects of it that I have forced myself to forget about. It wasn't always great everyday, month or year...

What a score! I’ve been to Ollie’s one time and they only had corvettes and vipers

From time to time, they switch them up. The time before this visit, they had RAM VTS pickups, Vipers, and Corvettes. This visit, they had what you're seeing here, plus the 64 Galaxie, 29 Ford wood body delivery, Slammer Concorde, and a few others. I bought kits that I didn't already have two of. Thanks for watching.

Thank you! The last jet that I built was an F-16 way back around 1996. Unfortunately, it didn't survive the move to Michigan after I retired from the Navy. I wish that I still had that plane. Good luck with your build. Hope it turns out great for you!

@MSMVPodcast Thank you. When I joined the Navy, they were still flying F-4's (one of my favorite planes). They were slowly being fazed out by the F-18 by then, and the F-14's had been in service for a number of years by that time. I have a couple of Tomcats in my stash, I just haven't had the inclination to open any of them yet. I also have a couple of ships in there as well. In time, those will finally get built. I just don't know when at this point.

Which Ollie's did you go to for these? I'm traveling to southeast Michigan next week, but I don't know where the Ollie's stores are there. In my neck of the woods, we have one Ollie's, and all it carries is a '55 Chevy custom kit.

I go to the Grand Rapids location and sometimes when I'm on the east side of the state I go to the one located in Bay City. According to their website there are only five locations in the state. Bay City, Saginaw, Muskegon, Wyoming (Grand Rapids) and Lansing. I don't know what part of Southeast Michigan that you're heading to but there isn't any in the Detroit area as far as I can tell. You can check their website to find a location near you using this link www.ollies.us/home.html Good luck and safe travels!

@@scaleautoguysworkbench I have one store 20 miles away, but it carries very little selection of kits --- like I said (6 months apart) I visited the store and all they had both times were those '55 Chevy custom kits. It's disappointing there is none located in the Detroit Metro area / suburbs. I might try Grand Rapids, my first stop on this trip is near South Bend, so I could turn north to Grand Rapids, before backtracking and heading east. Thanks.

@rayrussell6258 If you are going to drive to Grand Rapids and check out that location, you may want to check out the Lansing location on your way from there to the Detroit area. Depending on which route you end up taking, it may only be a few more miles out of your way to hit that store too. Of course, it's all up to you where you want to go and how far you want to drive. Good luck with your shopping spree!

I live in Fraser, on the east side of Detroit. There's an Ollie's in Roseville, in the Home Depot shopping center at 13 mile and Little Mack. On the same center is a Jo Ann's. About half a mile away is another shopping center with a hobby Lobby and a Michaels. Hobby Lobby has a decent selection of model cars as well as some other types. All of those stores have excellent stocks if cheap acrylic paints if those are of interest also
Another surprise package arrived and lookie what I found at Ollie's!!
