Sometimes I wonder about trucking in general. I make considerably more, but rent for my one bedroom apartment is ridiculous. That does not include utilities, renters insurance, the extra miles I have to put on my car to go to work, the lack of per diem pay, etc. I'm also quite the intervert and enjoy my solitude. Seems like a good gig after retirement. Just my two cents. Perhaps I'm wrong. Videos do educate me on the pitfalls of OTR trucking and I never even considered city driving, all the advertisement for lawsuits against trucking companies, the safety of sleeping in your truck, etc. Pretty educational.

Mega carriers rip their drivers off. Im in my second year otr and as of 9/23 my gross pay is over 86,500. I should make over 120k by years end. I drive flatbed otr for a company with about 150 trucks.

So your lease truck is going to be a freightliner and you're driving a volvo. Will that feel like a step backwards? my understanding, which could be wrong, is that the freightliner is a rougher ride and smaller inside cab/sleeper area. How will your pay rates change if you're a lease operator? Dont you only need about 3 months with Knight to go lease with them? TIA!

I've driven primarily a freightliner since I started driving and I like them the best. Very comfortable, roomy, etc. The Volvo and Freights are comparable IMO. @@truckingthesevenseas Do you have an option to buy the truck outright instead of lease? Seems paying $98k for a truck in 3.26 years that is originally being sold to you at $68k is a bit much. I understand you can write off 100% of a lease payment and on a purchase you can only depreciate over a number of years so leasing from a tax point of view may seem more attractive but also more expensive.

There is a buyout option. I will intend to use it at some point. The interest rate is 22% on the lease and I do not intend to stay with it the entire time. My goals here are to test drive the vehicle for a month or two, purchase it, gain some "Owner operator" experience and wait out the trash market.
