The 30 mpg is because the engine transforms to an Atkinson cycle (usually used in hybrid applications - the intake valve train changes to Late Intake Valve Closing (LIVC) when cruising at highway speeds where the power requirements at low. If you need power the engine immediately switches back to Otto cycle and away you go. This Atkinson cycle provides the improvement in FE (over the 26 mpg EPA hwy number) Not sure why Lexus does not advertize this feature. I won a coupe and every trip I get 30-32 mpg at 70-75mph)

Great review and I agree with all your points! I have the 2020 Inspiration Edition and absolutely LOVE everything about my car. Also, the Climate Control System (Inside of Infotainment) has a function called "Concierge" mode. This is a "Set-It and Forget-It" mode that If enabled, will automatically control ALL of your Climate, Seat and Steering Wheel heat conditions based on the Temperature you have set on the display. The car will then monitor the inside and outside temps and adjust the Climate, Seats and Steering wheel Automatically to meet or maintain the temp setting you have applied. As an example, I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area, where on a Spring day it could be 40 degrees in the morning, but 80 degrees in the afternoon. In the morning, Concierge mode will turn the Seat and Steering wheel heat on, but in the afternoon, it will turn the Seat Cooling on. It will even control the level of seat heat or cooling that is needed and will step down from the Maximum as the comfort level conditions are met. This is all Automatic and is based on whatever the Temp is that you have set on the display. I love this mode and I NEVER have to touch anything other than the button on the panel to raise or lower the Temperature. Hope this helps!

Thanks much, Larry! I appreciate the info and was aware of it, however for those that enjoy lower-back heat separate from climate temps, it's still the cumbersome step to get there. Congratulations on your Inspiration Edition! Cheers!

It’s sad this car didn’t sell too well because it discouraged Lexus from making this car a bigger deal with a longer future. It’s an AMAZING CAR. We were robbed of the LC F because of those low sales That would have been epic. Once this car market cools down I m buying one of these used. It’s the perfect car to buy with a few miles on it because it’s a Japanese car at the end of the day
@cavaleermountaineer38392 жыл бұрын
It is a shame but the looks weren't a familiar enough beauty and the performance wasn't stunning, glorious engine notwithstanding. They should've put the LFA's powertrain in this, made it a bit longer, and it would've been known as the "baby LFA". Instead they tried to emulate the Maserati Granturismo but they made it too small. The Japanese struggle with these matters, like Honda and the NSX uncertainty and confusion. It actually is a cultural thing.

It was meh in nearly all respects. It’s slow, the design is… interesting but not passion stirring. It’s style language is that it’s soft but not uber luxurious and it’s sporty but the performance is middle of the pack at best. To me, it’s a good sporty car for an old guy or lady.

@@UrbanBDKNY I understand and in comparison to the luxury segment of GT cars, it falls short IMO. MB, Audi, and BMW (excluding all the top luxury brands) have GT cars that looks better and performs much better than the LC500. But it’s just my opinion. I’d take an MB SL500 or their GT C or even the BMW M4 or M6 coupes. Arguably, the oddball potential to keep value or become a sort of collector’s item would be the LC500 but I doubt it’ll become a classic anytime soon.

It may not be better in overall performance like some of the German choices, but to really see the real difference, you need to take to the track…and how many people do that in the real world. Plus overall the maintenance requirement is less with the Lexus.

So encouraging that you have no complaints and are still so enthusiastic after two years of ownership, I have had my 2018 for 5 days and am thrilled with the ride and the sound it makes as I make my way up and down the gears. So impressed. Beats the pants off enjoyment of my former Porsche 911 Turbo in every way. I spent two months test driving variously cars (Mercedes GT 63S, BMW M6 Competition, Porsche Panamera 4S) and was about to give up when I was fortunate enough to walk back into a Mercedes dealership to find the LC 500 featured on the showroom floor. After a 20 minute test drive I was convinced and the rest is history, signed up on the spot. The salesman put a sold sign on it right away as other customers were starting to circle the car. Anyway, to make a long story short I am in LOOOOOVE...Already thinking of ordering a new 2024.

It's one of the most gorgeous coupes ever created. And your specific LC500..is a SUPERB example. Possibly the most beautiful car I've ever seen, that doesn't cost $1m+, if I'm being honest. The downside is that it's "slow" relative to it's pricetag and appearance. As an example, modern Mustang GT's or V8 Camaro's are significantly faster for less than half the price. But if you can get past that and realize it's not a race car or even a sports car, but instead a well built, reliable, beautifully sculpted Grand Tourer, then you should be happy. Just don't try to race anything that looks at all sporty.
@UtahJohnnyL Жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin, appreciate the feedback and compliment on the car. A few things to add. First off, this is a GT (Grand Touring) car, not a sports car and it really shouldn't be compared to other sports cars as such. The good news is, for a GT car, the car is amazingly responsive and most certainly not "slow" when put in the hands of an experienced driver that has had ample seat time and knows the car well. My background includes formal driving schools and I understand dynamics of such. I've taken part in a few rallys and some non-official driving events (of course, in closed courses in Mexico ;-) ) and the car has always amazed me and other German and Italian car drivers I have been with. In essence, don't get wrapped up in numbers on paper, real world experience is accomplished with seat time and experience. Would this be a car I would buy solely for track purposes? Most definitely not. Would this be the car that accomplishes 92% of what most people desire and use day to day in a beautiful way? Most certainly is. No disrespect to the Mustangs and Camaros out there, but they, like some other brands out there, are a dime a dozen and blend in with everything else. Personally speaking, I enjoy attending car meets and being the only LC500 there. It stands out and the compliments it receives is indicative of it's uniqueness. Cheers Sir! 😉

Thanks for the detailed review Really like your mods too, particularly wrapping the chrome roof blades I had already planned on that 😄 Also did you get any tyre rub with the springs and wheel setup?

I know several people that own much more expensive and exotic comparable cars, and their reviews after two years are not nearly as favorable. The dependability and maintenance cost are usually the primary reasons. LC 500 is a fantastic value IMO 👍

The door handle thing is for giving time to the window to slide open and break the seal with the door frame i guess 😅

thanks for sharing Johnny. I originally wanted an AMG GT specially the 2024 that is going to come out, then I also leaned towards a 911 Carrara S. I researched a lot about these cars. Thought they are fun, but reliability was a factor for me. I think I may go for a 2024 LC500, and hopefully I would keep it for a long time.

Thank you, Ed! Glad it could help. Coming up on four years now with it and still am enjoying the car tremendously! Best of luck on your search!

I believe you can set up a split screen where one screen shows the heated seats etc., so you always have access to it.

Love this car! it's just perfect in every way I don't think any mods benefit this car though, it's a piece of art best kept in its original shape do you have any experiences with potholes? does it smooth out those as well?

Appreciate the input. Yes indeed, Utah roads are riddled with potholes. Some LC500's came stock with 21" wheels, other the 20's. You'll always get more rubber (tire profile) with a 20" but the 21's are not bad at all. As I mentioned in the video, I am old enough to NOT sacrifice the comfort with these great cars and adding the springs and wheels (which again are the same diameter as OEM, just different offsets), was a great improvement in my mind. Many professional auto journalists have reviewed these cars with positive accolades given. Many felt the suspension to be slightly soft (as it should be since it's a GT car), but adding the slightly firmer springs turns this car into a GT car with a sporty feel in the canyons. Everyone is different and have different desires/goals. ;-) Cheers!

Nice review, Johnny. I recently test drove a LC500 convertible at SLC Lexus. Didn't have a WOW takeaway :(. I'll be renting a coupe in Chicago for a day to get a proper evaluation.
