Warren saved me a few months ago with my scouts. One I had originally as a little kid since 1963, the other one I bought on eBay. I have since taken both of them apart with confidence, with much thanks to Warren.

Thank you for explaining why everyone says NEVER take a Scout motor apart. They were right.

Thanks for sharing. Hope I never have to take one of these apart. LOL

I’ve always felt the Scout motors always got a bad reputation because they’re construction. Of course they’re not great but they’re not terrible either. I’ve always felt it at least got a Lionel in a kids hands and if they wanted to upgrade later they could at least use the rolling stock (depending on the couplers of course, but one could use either the tender or a scout/Lionel conversion) when they upgraded. But then again, for what a Scout set cost one could get a nicer Marx. But at least Lionel was trying to cut costs.

Everyone has they're favs and I respect that. I'm not a fan of these types of motors or the scout in general. The GG1 is another loco I am not a fan of

I recently got a 2332 that was a screaming deal. It’s my first GG1 and first time ever working on one. I must say that unless I come across another for cheap I don’t really want to tear into another one. It was tedious to say the least. My favorites to work on are anything based like a 681, 746, 726, 736. Easy to take apart, plenty of room to work with, and reliable as heck!

Really good video. The scout motor is not one of Lionels best. The basic Marx is far better.

Say, i noticed that the 1120 had one side broken off where you put the screw through to hold the motor in the shell ! Is that ok to put back in the shell n run? 🤔

Absolutely. With the big chunk missing it still has plenty of support and seats firmly in place.
