FANTASTIC update on your INCREDIBLE Lithops Claire :-D they all look so healthy and beautiful, and you have shared amazing and really helpful info about them too, your seedlings are AMAZING, I only have the one Lithop seedling left from all the seeds I sown two months ago, lots of them had germinated but sadly died off a few days after they germinated, but I have one little survivor that seems to be doing ok, thanks so much for sharing your AMAZING update Claire, and Hans and I are sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

Thank you Lyn for your fantastic words! 👍🌵💚🌵😊 Oh no, it is sad to hear you lost your Lithops so soon...May the lonesome little seedling you have left keep growing strong for you...if I find any seeds inside the seed capsules held on my plants I shall send you some Lithops seeds as I won't need them all... they germinate best when not sown straight off the plant, so a little storage time and then they can be sown. Thank you so much for stopping by and watching and commenting 💕

Nice update, Claire. Your Lithops are looking good 😊 The little seedlings look really healthy. The Lithops Katherine sent me I’ve only watered once, after they shed. Been pretty hot here recently so I won’t water them for a while again. Thank you for sharing with us as always, have a wonderful evening from Edith & myself 🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜

So good to see this update, Claire! They look so cute. 😍 I was gifted a lithop by one of my plant sellers 2 months ago and so far so good. I have not given it a drop of water yet. This video will be so helpful. Love the blooms on that Mammillaria too! Have a great week! ❤️🌺🌸🌼🌵💚

Hello Edith thank you for watching 🌞👍 that's lovely you have had success with your Lithops, I believe you can keep going Edith and your Lithops will be fine, I know you mention high humidity in Singapore, but with care your Lithops should do well... having it for 2 months already is fantastic achievement 🤗👍🌵💚🌵

😄Lithops can be finicky little things! Usually they thrive on neglect 🤭 but really they just need less water than your average desert cactus 😁 I hope to get some more select choices, its only recently I've started adding substantially more Lithops to my collection... and I'm so happy I have my seedlings, I hope they continue to do well. Thank you so much Clyde, for your comment, and for watching 👍😊🌞🌵🌞🌵🌞🌵

Thank you so much for watching my video and leaving a comment...😊👍🌵 When I first decided I wanted to try Lithops, that is what I did...I bought a couple of Lithops as a test to see how I would do with them and I still have those 2 plants today as shown in my video...its only since last year I've noticeably started to expand more ...as you said, I needed to learn how to care for them and now I think I've got it 😄 Happy growing and glad to hear you are doing well so far with your Lithops 😊🌵

Great info as always. Well done with your own grown seedling. I love lithops, most of them are about to finish shedding - a few still in the process. I bought some seeds but no joy with germination 😪 I have a north west windowsill so may place some there so I can look at them when at the desk😄

Thank you Magda...Happy to hear your Lithops too are doing well and shedding...sad to hear your seeds didn't germinate, that is odd, they should germinate quite readily as they do last a good long time, they germinate lower temperature than cactus seed, try putting them somewhere less hot than the cactus seed area and air them out sooner too, I learnt to do that and more survived. The trick is the soil needs to be moist but they don't need the constant humidity from being in a closed environment/zip bag etc, so soon after germinating/ a few days afterwards, start airing them out, hope this helps,Good luck for next time. Don't give up 😄👍😊

Off subject, I have recently bought some lapidaries margaritea, they have come in ok condition,but slightly wrinkled on the outer leaves, I have potted them up in some nice pumice and lave rock with a small amount of cacti soil, my questions are should I water them now and then when they wrinkle up again, also should I refrain from water altogether in winter. Any help appreciated.

Hello, I have Lapidaria margaretae I grew from seed and they are 2 years old, still small, lovely you have some too, they are really nice... well if you are based in the UK or a temperate climate, DO NOT give them any water (yet) until the weather turns dry and settled and is much less humidity in the air, preferably clear warm sunny day. Lithops (including your Lapidaria) will rot if you water them in rainy damp overcast weather. So even if they are looking wrinkled (perhaps they may even have the dried up previous leaves still attached if you've not removed them in the repotting process, or they might be not there if they have dried up very well) ...anyway they will be absolutely fine for a little while, so dont panic because their entire bodies are full of water and they'll cope for a little while until weather improves a bit. If they look desperate just put a teaspoon or 2 of water at the base but not much more and this will not cause a problem, until you can water deeply next time. They can go a bit dormant in extreme high temperature and heat, but this isn't too much if a problem in the UK, usually, but do not water more than once a month, they need less than cactus. JUST IN CASE YOU ARE NOT AWARE I DO HAVE A PLAYLIST ON Lithops, ALSO WATCH THIS VIDEO I MADE WHICH MIGHT ALSO HELP TOO, BUT THERE ARE OTHER VIDEOS IN MY Lithops playlist. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKHdmZuHidOZaqM 😊👍🌵

@@CactusCove thanks for the reply, they came bare rooted and I potted them up straight away, they have some small very shrivelled outer leaves on one side of each plant, then some big outer leaves that are wrinkled and look a bit damaged on the edge, then the new inner leaves that look fine, do you think the bigger outer leaves are being absorbed now or that the are slightly damaged/burnt. I have tried emailing you and sending a few photos but I get an email back saying your email isn’t found. Again thanks for the reply and help, I’m from the uk near Manchester

@@paulbrown3975 🤔... that's odd about the email, I've just checked my inbox, but I haven't got any messages atall... this is the email address... CactusCoveEnglandUK@outlook.com Maybe try resending your message again, I would love to see the photos. Well... my Lapidaria tend to have the same setup, they are still young so have less leaf pairs, but my larger 2 have double leaf pairs, but what I mean is, you often get 2 pairs or more pairs, of sets of leaves, which look like they are seated into each other in a stack, and these outer sets are providing the water to support the main ones until they are used up and lowest ones tend to shrivel. So don't remove those outer sets of leaves for now as they are meant to look this way, more so in mature Lapidaria. Lapidaria (or the Karoo rose, which it's also called) are similar to Lithops, except they grow more leaf pairs. If you Google you'll see what I mean. Hope this helps. 😊🌵👍

I notice you’ve invested in lighting. Is the windowsill not sufficient? I’m putting mine on my east facing window so hoping they will get enough sun. Is the lighting setup necessary? Is it expensive?
@CactusCove
@CactusCove 3 жыл бұрын
I do grow someLithops on window sill (North westerly facing), so just about enough but not perfect light, but I don't have much space there as they are very narrow sills,and short in length, and because I grow ALL my cactus plants (including LITHOPS) inside my home now, I have to use additional lighting, hence I have alot of grow lights on my shelving racks because they don't receive hardly any natural light otherwise, and certainly not enough to grow cactus or Lithops. Your Lithops should do well on a very good east facing window, as long as they get at least 4 hours or more of direct morning (or late afternoon) sunshine... they should be happy, so you should not need grow lights, but if you want to, you can buy those clip on grow lights just for a bit more light to suit your needs which are quite cheap but not very powerful. So depending on the style of light and the strength or spectrum then the prices can be cheap to very expensive. Each light bulb I use (those tri fold ones) cost between £15 to £20 each depending on the seller. So I bought mine over course of time as I gradually got more shelves. Ideally I would prefer long rectangular panel lights to suit the length of shelves and provide more even spread of light, but I'm relatively happy with my light bulbs performance, for now 😄👍🌵 Thank you for watching and commenting 🙂
