The rootstock is growing a pup because it didn’t take to the scion like it should have. You did them both a favor separating them.

Days ago I bought a pot of tiny (with biggest ones about 1.5 centimeters and smallest one 0.5 centimeters in diameter) lithopses and they also live in their stock pot that looks like in the video and has similar soil substrate. Some of them have weird white-ish indentations on them that look kind of like healed wounds and one of them has areas that seem to be covered in some sort of loose dried out layer of skin - I don't know whether or not it is normal for them. Should I repot them now or is it better for me to wait for different season?

Thank you so much for doing this and for placing the link in for us later. My breadmaker is a very old Remington Big Loaf. I can't see that they were taken over by Kenwood but the machine is very similar.

I've got loads of these! They aren't fussy on what potting media you use. Any general purpose Compost will do. Mine live very happily in bog standard stuff from Poundland.

Do the rootstocks of de-grafted moon cacti still grow or?

@@Just_a_guy593 yes, they will still grow, without the top piece attached. It will just resume normal growth and send out more stems.

How long does it take for the fruit to become visible?
@CactusCove
@CactusCove 2 ай бұрын
@@curious5218 usually during the flowering season, fruits usually appear on this particular one in my collection, about 6 weeks later. If this lophophora in my collection flowers towards the end of the growing or flowering season, then usually the fruits won't appear in time, as the cactus goes dormant, so those fruits will start popping up the next Starr of growing season. But usually 6 to 8 weeks fruits emerge after flowers are pollinated. This is based on my plants grown indoors in the UK.
@curious5218
@curious5218 2 ай бұрын
@@CactusCove wow this delayed fruiting concept after the dormant season is new to me. Thank you for the info. I pollinated my lopho three weeks back, I don’t see any fruit development so far. So I was thinking it is a failure, now I have hope 😊 Thanks again

I just purchased my first Lithops, mainly because you never see them locally for sale! Secondly, because I was afraid of killing it, but I have had much luck with a Split Rock that I've had for at least 3 years, and it sounds like the Lithops and Split Rock have similar likes and dislikes. But before watching you video, I did remove it from it's plastic tiny pot because it's soil was soaking wet, and is in the process of shedding, and if like my Split Rock, doesn't need to be watered as it uses the old leaves for moisture. You mentioned that they don't need to dry out and heal before planting, but I worry about how damp it still is. I'm hoping to rescue it-not kill it!!!!

Good luck with yours rooting up. It's a shame they keep selling them like this, as usually these stocks don't survive long term. But as you say, it's nice if you can save the actual scion since they have nice colours. I have another one that has an exhausted stock and needs degrafting. Thank you for watching. 👍🏻😊🌵

They are still quite small, and I have not fed them any additional fertilisers since this video! So... probably why they are extra slow in growing, but they are slow growers. I'm in the UK and I keep all my plants indoors, using grow lights. I think I will give them a refresh this spring of new potting mix, I've just fed them twice in their last 2 waterings. I might sow some more seeds actually 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting.

It's about 6 foot in height when goose necks of the lights are in a straighter position, or between 5 to 6 foot if you bend the gooseneck of the lamp slightly, but because you can move and twist the light direction it's light output can reach vaster area. What set up do you have for your plants, if I might ask?

Yes I've sown the seeds. I harvested them, but put a mixture of seeds together and sown them together. I have very young seedlings, so not grown big enough yet, they germinate very readily and quickly too. Should any survive long enough it won't be for a couple or several years until they develop enough to flower. It's just a fun process to grow from seed. Thank you so much for watching and for your questions 👍🏻😊🌵⛄️

Thank you for watching, yes a good rinse and a scrub, if it has less spines, is good, the addition of an essential oil helps kill them too. I still have this cactus plant, so far it's been okay. 👍🏻🙂🌵

the crusted ones look like typical fungus damage, the scourge of cacti growing. treat it with H202, hydrogen peroxide mixed 3 part water to 1 part peroxide, add a smidge of dish soap like Dawn, as a surfactant to spread it into small cracks/crevices. i would isolate them from the rest of the collection, it can spread. spray plants often, once a week. it will take a couple years to correct the problem. i would spray the rest of them as well to prevent the dreaded orange mold...be careful not to expose to sunlight until spray dries to prevent possible photo toxic burning to their skin. i spray in evening so plant dries over night.

Yea, speaking of such; I had an Astro Ornatum, LOVED it so much!!! Was such a beautiful specimen! But I was brand new to growing cacti, and it rotted from the inside during winter. I had no idea, as it looked normal. Then I checked it, and it was completely hollow. I was so bummed. But looking back, I wasn't experienced enough yet to check the roots good for mealy bugs, like you did here on your Capricornes (which are both beauties), and it cost me my beautiful Ornatum. We learn as we go, and we learn from each other.

@@risenfromyoutubesashesagai6302 yes, Asyrophytum can appear all healthy looking but the rot inside can take upto many months to show any signs that there is something wrong, that happened to some of mine and it affects all growers from beginners to experienced. They are a hard and firm cactus so they can hide lots of awful goings on inside them until its too late. I'm always very wary now of buying larger specimens. Thank you for watching. And the Astrophytum thar are featured in this video are still with me and doing well so far. 🙂👍🏻🌵
