[But they fucked up writing him in season 8 but they fucked up nearly everything in season 8 (just like voltron)] but I love the whole episode with big mac and spike over sugarbelle and discord just wants to play OnO. And the boring one where twilight jealous. But he is always the best part of the episodes he's in. And I dont care if my "shipping agenda" isnt met. My ships are often not met but I can still like characters together. My whole point of shipping is personal enjoyment. If a show doesnt make it canon I have fan fiction and fan art. His potential is often wasted but he is almost always hilarious. I find discord hilarious, but I am also easily entertained. Ill play with a ball on with a penny in it for hours. Finding someone funny is completely subjective and I love almost everything the writers do with discord. You may not be wrong about you finding him funny or him being better as a villain, but I love friendly discord. I love him being adorable with spike and big mac in OnO. I love him being grumpy he didn't get invited to the gala. I love him being petty and ruining twilights day with cadance. Youre not wrong that you dont enjoy him, but you were wrong in thinking I didnt

Doctor Disney I’m sorry but if you actually loved how Discord was you wouldn’t even ship him with Fluttershy. She literally ruined his character and it almost killed him. He’s betrayed her multiple times, he got so jealous of a FRIEND that he ruined the gala and almost banished the friend (which is extremely toxic and abusive if he was in love with her), their age gap is CRAZY, he’s overall awful to her, almost killing her and her friends just to run that school for a while. I’m glad you don’t think it’s canon like most of them do but you gotta think this through past them just interacting a lot.

When it comes to Fluttercord, this episode had the opposite effect for me. I was never too into Fluttercord, but this episode on top of "To Where and Back Again" is starting to make me think that there's something more between Fluttershy and Discord than just mere friendship. But that's just me.

With the whole Accord Arc, I thought the reason he did not disappear was that he inverted his nature as a creature of chaos into that of order. If Accord were to act chaotically without going back to chaos mode, the same thing would happen. That's my headcanon at least. Also, with the elements I think its because they lock him in stasis, not allowing him to change in ANY way include fading out of existance.

That or he can be sustained by chaos caused by others.... As in there needs to be something chaotic happening around him in order to keep him from fading away.... (As flutter-shy was able to bring him back from the brink by causing chaos herself when he was no longer physically able to...) In the case of him being imprisoned in stone, he was still kept in the royal garden, the CMC were probably not the first ones to argue in his presence... Then of course there was the annual Grand Galloping Gala... Given how Celestia tends to send out invites with the express purpose of "livening things up" I doubt that the "Best night ever" was the first time chaos has erupted at the event... (Held right next to where he was imprisoned possibly even within his view... Heck Fluttershy was probably chasing terrified critters around his feet before bursting into the main hall...) As for when Tirek stole his magic? I'd say what Tirek was doing was causing a fair amount of chaos... Then in the changeling hive? That place was pretty chaotic in it's own right...

I alsp would argue thst it has to do with his state of mind. Like, even if he isnt *acting* chaotic he is thinking about and feeling the Chaos in the World. But when he is in a state of being plain and normal, he looses controll over his form and cant substain it, heck him disappearing. That would explain why other instants didnt count.

Indeed, he has to make himself be normal in body and mind for this disappearing thing to occur, if others make him normal in body or cause him to be unable to act chaotic (by making him unable to take any action like when he was turned to stone), that still doesn't change him mentally.

I think the disappearing thing is more to do with his personality than his powers. This is really the only time so far that we've seen him changing WHO he is and how he thinks, even when he was without magic he was still a spirit of chaos in his mindset.

Discord disapears because he has set his mind to beeing "normal". Not only his - in some cases forced - acting "normal", but he tries his hardes to be like a pony. So Fluttershy likes him forever.

Saphira Banes Well they have a canon relationship, but it's still not a canon romantic relationship. Big Mac and Sugar Belle are a canon romantic relationship. But Discord and Fluttershy are good friends. But that does mean there's plenty of shipping fuel for them. I still prefer Dislestia though! Dislestia, then DiscoPie, then FlutterCord and TwiCord bring up the rear.

Pinkie's advice doesn't fall on deaf ears at all. It's Pinkie's advice that really triggers Discord's insecurity, causing him to backpedal everything he's been doing thus far to prepare and then some. (Don't worry, Pinkie, it was a good advice in general; he just overthought it.) ------------ I don't think it's fair to say that Discord's disappearing contradicts other episodes. Sometimes he isn't doing anything chaotic at the moment, but this is the only time he's ever actively attempted to be ordinary, to stop being the living embodiment of chaos rather than simply being the living embodiment of chaos who is cleaning up after himself after he's had his fun (because otherwise Fluttershy will scold him). Even in the Accord arc, he wasn't trying to be ordinary; he exerted considerable magic to become the living embodiment of order instead. Accord probably would have started vanishing as well if he tried to become so milquetoast. Speaking of which, how could you comment on "finger foods" but not "milk toast"? That was clearly the best pun in the episode.

My understanding of it was that Discord was fading away because he was actively changing his chaos dimension, he could act no chaotic and even lose his magic because he had a whole dimension of chaos to sustain him like a reserve battery but drain that of its chaos and he will fade away.

5:06 I took it to mean when he was Acord he had used his magic to forcibly transform himself into a pure being of harmony, and the reason he's fading away in this situation is because he is forcibly repressing his magic, after all there are other ways to cause chaos, you can cause chaos by simply doing something others would not expect you to do. As an example discord could snap his fingers and rework and rework and eyes all of equestria's bureaucracy into three simple one page forms, no one would ever expect it and they be pulling their hair out trying to figure out why he's doing it and what he's hoping to gain.

I think the reason why Accord didn't disappear is because Discord had shifted his very nature to a creature who thrives on order instead of chaos. What does clash with this episode however, is that Discord learned a very big lesson from his debacle in the comics that he shouldn't be so insecure and change himself to get others to like him. Then again, the latest episode acknowledges why it took Fluttershy so long to learn the same lesson about coming out of her shell more, and the same principle can be applied to other characters. Maybe Discord figured that bending over backwards without flipping the switch on his core nature would work.

About canon. No matteer what the writers say, I always like to divert comic universes, "animated series universes" and "movie universes" into different dimensions of cannon. For example. Sunset Shimmer is a real character in EQG, but since there isn't any kind of reference of her in the regular series, she never existed in the AS (animated series) canon universe, or at least she never came back in the AS canon universe so Twilight never had to go through the mirror. Alternatively, maybe the mirror portal never existed. So yeah, we got the spin off universe of EQG and the series canon universe of the animated series. The same goes for the comics.

The Discord vanishing isn't because he's not doing anything chaotic, it's because he goes against his own nature by acting too normal. In my opinion it makes perfect sense. He doesn't need to be chaotic 24/24, but being normal is what is destroying him. I suppouse Fluttershy's attempt to cause chaos to make up for Discord being normal was good enough of a cure.

Ponyville is Chaotic Harmonic there is more chaos but still maintains an assymetric balance with order. Canterlot on the other hand is Orderly Harmonic with more order than chaos and thus Order provide an assymetric balance with Chaos.

If Discord had faded, but not vanish or just greyed out, I think that would have been stronger than vanishing all together. It would have been a strong call back to other episodes where ponies were de-powered. Like when Discord turned them against their elements or when Tirek sucke their powers. Only a small complain in an otherwise enjoyable episode.

Discord was fading out of existence because he suppressing his chaotic nature too much. In the Season 4 and Season 6 finale, he may have lost his use of magic, but he wasn't suppressing who he really is, and, especially in the season 6 finale, he was still chaotic.

The difference this event has with that of Tirek is that with Tirek, it was an external cause. Tirek took the chaos magic from Discord, making it so that Discord ceased to be a "creature of chaos". However, in this episode, it was an _internal_ cause. Discord still had his chaotic magic, but was going against his chaotic nature. In short, Discord never went against his chaotic nature when Tirek took his magic.

Technically, what happened in those comics was that Discord was outside of his dimension when he tried to change himself, as well as when he was interacting with Luna in the dream realm. When he attempted to act 'normal' inside his dimension, the world he made was rejecting him because he was messing with the natural chaos he was made for. Heck, if you look at the latest comic, the dimension he lives in is his 'battery recharger', and if someone more chaotic than he takes over, he begins to lose his power bit by bit, and the new owner slowly turns crazy with time passed once the power gets to them. Likewise, he had to cut off his magic just to time travel, which means he couldn't be able to go to his home if it doesn't exist anytime other than between his stonification and the present day.

I was just thinking that we need an episode of him and someone other than Flutters right before you said he and Pinkie should be better friends. And I agREEE!!! We don't really get many episodes of him doing friend stuff with characters other than Flutters and it's really missed potential since you could make some pretty interesting episodes with him and the other mane six(seven?). Not counting Dungeons and Discord and other episodes where he's more just being a troll to the other characters. Flutters is the only one he's genuinely nice to with out trolling her. But gosh him and Pinkie, the absolute chaos that would ensue with and episode like that. I need.

My head just clicked on to a new idea. Discord is the embodiment of Chaos, which in MLP is represented by a swirling ass of... I guess purple stars? Other mediums I've seen Chaos explored in showed it as Red, Black and White. And Discord fits THAT really well. Start of the show, Discord represented Black Chaos, the evil part of everything chaotic. Towards the middle, before Tirek, he represented Red Chaos, still kinda bad, but getting towards good. A balance of each. Now, as he is, he represents White Chaos. Good magic for the sake of helping instead of hurting. Needless to say, I want MLP to explore Discord having an identity crisis. They could have done that with Tirek, instead of having Discord just go bad because Tirek was disappointed. The way he is now, he could have a sort of identity crisis where he remembered how "powerful" he was when ponies feared him, while still remembering that he's got friends in Fluttershy and the rest of the Mane Six and Starlight, all the while feeling like if he lets himself be a little bad every now and again, it wouldn't hurt anything. The three warring parts of his mind could decide to split themselves from him, leaving THREE Discords instead of just the one. Evil Discord, ruled by Black Chaos, could be more dragony or something. Good Discord, ruled by White Chaos, would probably be more pony like to fit with the MLP Cannon. And Red Discord, ruled by Red Chaos, would look normal but not be nearly as powerful. The final plot point being that the Mane Six and Starlight have to find a way to restore Discord back to normal. I think that would make quite the interesting episode. Or even a set of three episodes? Who knows.

KP, discord was still discorded when he was around the other mane 6. He is able to socialize and be around others not of chaos but still not vanish. The *reason* he started vanishing was because he himself was turning chaotic and unreal things into normal objects and features. He was going against his very nature which metaphorically could not stand to be, a chaos entity bringing about order and harmony, it wouldn't stand against nature. Or rather it would go exactly how nature is meant which is reverse of chaos. I loved the episode tho. Great ships and fun times.

It wasn't as extreme as him not being chaotic for a seen but from him actually changing his self to the opposite of him true self, it would be similar to the season 2 premiere where all the main cast was changed to the opposite of themselves making so they could not use the actual elements they represent, or similar to that American dad episode where roger tried to be opposite of himself and it was literally killing him

KP, he didn't disappear when his magic was stolen or when he wasn't really doing much particularly chaotic *because* neither of those instances displayed him changing his true nature. It's not just doing chaotic things that feeds him, it's abiding by his true nature as the incarnation of all things considered chaotic. It's when he tried to change his fundamental nature that he began to disappear. As he clearly stated in the episode: "For the first time in my life, I feel... perfectly ordinary."

If you think about it discord is chaotic but not always in a bad way. He does things no one expects. So it could be when he doesn't stay true to his nature that happens. Minus the time magical means turned him into his opposite. In the comic. This could also be metaphorical. When he started being like everypony else he was losing himself or losing his own identity.

Maby beacuse he change his place and himself whidout change his core. Like in the comic he change all of himself (mind body Magic) not just around him and behavior. So sins he is a spirit of caos. He then stops exsisting sins he is not giving his caos core any Magic?
