I had to look at a satellite view of “Karelia” (spelling). What an awesomely remote area and so sparsely populated. I almost cry when I hit”home” and the map spins back to the other side of earth. Btw your bushcraft and respect of wilderness is the standard which others should strive toward.

@@TheGrantourismo if I take your meaning you aren't discounting the beauty and remoteness of the previously mentioned location just observing the fact that certain areas in the western US are more remote from a population standpoint. I have about 6k acres not all that far from St. Louis in Missouri and I have a large waterwheel powerplant plus a solar farm a 3,000 odd sq. ft home and 7,000 sq. ft fabrication and work shop and you could go weeks without seeing a neighbor. In many of the colder parts of America, including Alaska, and most of the country of Canada, cabin owners are allowed to seal cabins against bears and animals, but, have to have fairly easy access to humans. This means that the wood stove or fireplace are already laid for the next fire, the box of matches has one stuck out, and it is the easiest for someone freezing to death to start a life saving fire. At one of my camps that gets hit at least once every 24 months, I have a printed diagram where the people need to strike the road flare, and where to slide it for an instant fire. Has worked well so far.

You guys are living the dream. When I was your age, the very first snowmobile (Ski-Doo) hit the market! They were junk, but they were new! They really opened up the Winter Wonderlands. Since then, everything has improved beyond my earliest years' dreams. I've seen and done a lot, but modern tech has made it to where you'll be doing and seeing things I can't imagine. Very happy for you! Enjoy as much as you can, because age has a way of sneaking up on you.

I do so love your cabin. Someday I'd like to show you what passes for a "Log cabin" here in North Carolina USA. A relatively poor state, any decent-size log was worth money as lumber or for pitch, and it seldom even freezes here, so cabins here were usually made out of scrubby little pines no bigger than your arm (there are still a few out in the woods around here) often with a big overhanging porch roof to sit on because its brutally hot most months, and large windows if possible. Yours looks like a concrete doomsday bunker by comparison. The one advantage we have here is very good clay everywhere. You can't grow anything in it, but it makes awesome chinking, and fireplaces, and chimney lining, and a hard packed clay floor works fairly well. (We export a lot of clay bricks) Anyway, thanks for these awesome videos. It was really very educational. And licence that cool axe. I want one!
