I bit my nails for almost five years and ever since I started doing it, I hated it. I tried to stop but I was never able to. Until about 8 months ago, I was able to break the habit. This is going to sound really stupid, but it's true. I stopped biting my nails because I got a crush on a boy that had really nice nails, and if we ever dated, I didn't want to have horrible nails and him having beautiful nails. Now, 8 months later, I have great nails and I don't like him anymore.😉

I had the same issue. I bit my nails from middle school up until junior year of high school. I used to see all the girls with nail polish and when presenting how much of a difference it made. It just inspired me to want to grow them out and be girly, fun, and express myself through the nail art/trends that I always wanted to try but, couldn't. So I bought press on nails and I'd wear them to insure that I wouldn't bite on my own, I would place a small dot of nail glue to lengthen the wear time and when it was time to switch them out I would run to the drug store and buy another set of the press on nails ($6-$8) and by senior year i had strong beautiful nails and I was able to go to prom with just a manicure and they looked better than acrylics. I was so proud of myself and now I've just become addicted to having my nails perfectly polished at all times because, It makes me feel put together and confident. I commend you for breaking the habit- it's the best feeling!

I've had long nails all my life. I think one of the best ways to get them long is to have a gentle touch. I grab things gently and never played sports or did hobbies that were rough on my hands. These days they break even less when I moisturize my hands. Keeping your nails hydrated also helps because then they're not so dry and brittle. Nail Polish is great for helping them grow out faster because thick polish on top is like an armor! Trust me, cuz mine are probably twice as long as Janelle's or longer x)

Tip for nail bitters: Put on a top coat or base. That way it tastes really bad. Also put on a really pretty nail polish (fav color works best) that way you don't want to bite your nails If watching videos or just relaxing put socks on your hands or play with a stress ball in each hand. Try using nail remedies from online to help make you think (and have) nail growth then you don't want to bight your nails Try watching a lot of nail art videos and look at there nails. This will help you keep motivated. Give yourself a treat when you see white part coming in. When it gets larger and ledger give yourself more treats. When you have long nails start to file them. I jade a wry long pointer finger and it broke bc it was to long. So sad Tell your family and getting them to be happy for you. This makes yourself proud. If you ever start bugging your nails SIT ON THEM. No way to do it if you are sitting on Them If your nail gets wet and is bendable sit on Rehnquist and let them dry. This will make them tough again and you can recover your nail. Keep a nail polish collection in your room or someplace you see a lot to remind you to not night your nails. Start to make a nail polish collection this will keep you motivated. Put on acrylics and let your natural nail under neath grow. Get long acrylics so you start to feel what it's like to have long nails. Hope these tips help! Leave more tips for me to add if you have any suggestions. Just to tell you i was a past nail bitter. I still am but I have improved my nails are now off my finger and are probably 3 mm long now. Change is possible.

I used to be a nail bitter too but now my nails are super long. My longest nail ist about 1.5 cm long (with the nail bed it's a bit over 2.5). I get asked so often if they are real. To not break this nail I use like 10 coats of glitter polish so even when I bump it, it can't break.

@Midgeria8 жыл бұрын
I have the exact same problem! The break is always right at the bottom of my smile line and I have to cut/file it all away. Using some nail strengtheners helped a bit. I used a brand called Snow Crystal and their brittle and bendy formula. But just having nail polish on reduces the breaks so much.
@kritika1120JB8 жыл бұрын
Midgeria the nail strengtheners are quite expensive for me. I use nail Polish and leave my nails bare for at least a week in a month. Also my aunt told me that if you use a lemon.. You know al juiced out. And use the remaining part, rub it on your nails.. It makes them stronger. :)

A lot of people buy certain nail polishes that taste disgusting to stop biting their nails and they usually work for a short amount of time but the problem is people eventually get used to the taste and just bite away like they used too. I used to bite my nails but i stopped and without using special products to stop me biting them. All I do was I painted my nails about once a week which I enjoyed, it turned into a hobby for me and I got a lot better and a more steady hands and now I can do some pretty and advanced nail art designs. All I did each week was paint them and then when I went to bite them I would look at them and think to myself no don't bite them they look pretty don't ruin it you put lots of effort into that! After a about 2-4 months of saying that to myself I just got out of the habit of not biting them and now they r long and strong. I still paint them about once a week because I enjoy it and I also get a lot of comments about them which I really like! Also if u paint them an learn how to paint them yourself you won't need to go spend money to get them done like getting acrylics destroys your nails by making them weaker and more prone to braking. If you learn to paint them yourself, you can save money, create a new hobby, and paint designs that you wouldn't get at the salon! I suppose you would buy nail polishes but it's still cheaper than getting your nails done regularly. I know this worked for me and I know it probably won't work for everyone but that was my method to stop biting them. I definitely recommend trying this but just give yourself around 2-4 months so you can really get the message into your head and just naturally stop biting them. I hope this helps!

Filing my nails to a hard oval shape was the best thing I've ever done for my nail length. With nail oil and keeping hydrated (drink lots of water, it's not just good for your nails!) I've had them longer than I ever thought was possible. Except for my thumbs. I keep them shorter since they do a lot of the heavy lifting and have a tendency to break and rip close to the nail bed.

I was an avid nail biter until probably three months ago. Because holidays were drawing near, I wanted to grow my nails out! So I painted them white and kept on looking at them every time I caught myself wanting to bite. Now my nails are nicer and if I do feel the urge to bite, I either clean my nails or graze the tip of the nails against my teeth. It kinda works!

I bit my nails all through my childhood until I was about 15. I think the biggest helper for me was getting into nail art and painting them constantly so I didn't want to ruin the design I worked hard on, as well as getting manicures and not biting so it wasn't wasting my money and my nail tech held me accountable. The other factor was learning how much bacteria I was putting in my mouth.

I bit my nails for like 6 years hopelessly. My fingers were always stubby and my cuticles were a mess of hangnails. Until I got really into nail art I never really felt the desire to stop. I thought, since nail biting is just a habit, replace it with another, less destructive habit. Whenever my teeth had that feeling (like they wanted to bite something) I bit the end of a pen or the inside of my lip. It'll take a while to set the new habit but once you do the likelihood of a relapse will decrease to almost 0%.

Me and my friend always bit my nails when we were bored in class so whe decided that we had to find something to do with our hands during these boring classes. We found that playing with cleaning gum (I don't know if that is the actual name... here in the Netherlands we call it ''kneedgum'') really kept us busy and stopped us from biting our nails! What also really helped was that when we saw the other person biting their nails, we would just pull her hand out of her mouth :P

Somehow, I stopped biting my nails after I put fake nails on and they grew. I sometimes go into specific frenzies. Like book frenzy, then I get bored, then this nail frenzy where in a month I bought around 20-25 nail polishes.....I took an oath to stop biting ( hope I will not get over this nail frenzy >.>) and also to take them at a salon to give them shape. I put treatments on them and rub them ( after using acetone to take off polish) with Argan Oil. IT HELPS! My nails were destroyed due to the nail gel....and they recovered in most parts. When they broke, i told myself I will file them at home a bit so I will not hook them into a certain cloth material or so and I have let them like this. I STOPPED EXFOLIATING! This is also important not to let yourself do that at all. Else you just feel like biting, then u bite the rest so you can let them grow from 0. DOn't! You will regret it.

I was never a nail biter, but one way I keep my horribly weak (from genetics) nails from breaking is I _always_ keep them polished. They grew longer than they'd ever been in about 2-3 months, so much so that I had to trim them back because they were getting _too_ long! LOL So, if you keep them polished, in my experience anyway, they're less likely to break. :-D And I agree with the gentle thing, too. I have my boyfriend open all my cans for me now, lol. And, when he's not around, I use a spoon or other utensil. ;)

HOW TO STOP NAIL BITING: Now I don't know if it's going to work for every one but it's worth a try. 1. Get something to fidget with whether it be a necklace, rubber band, Fidget Cube. If you have something to do in class or something like that it fights the urge to bite. 2. Paint your nails with gross tasting nail polish. I know you can get nail polishes that taste gross on purpose to prevent nail biting. I hope this helps! :)

I used to bite my nails all the time. Lately, I tear them manually rather than bite them. I've tried to grow them out for a while now; I think the longest I've ever managed is three months before tearing them down to nothing again. My problem is that I hate the feeling of any unevenness on the tips, so I tend to get obsessive and start rubbing them. They're also weak and break all the time from everyday things I do like washing the dishes. I'm trying to grow them out a little so I can do nail art (it's really hard to paint your nails when they don't even go past the tips of your fingers; so messy), but they don't want to cooperate. They just break all the time from things like cleaning the kitchen. :/ My fiance and I made an agreement that for every month I don't destroy my nails, I can get a new nail polish. It's working pretty well... but then I give myself a manicure, giving all the layers time to dry and everything, and two hours later, I touch something and it all smudges and smears off. :/

This is the issue, I always tried to stop biting my nails, but I can't. I tried no bite, regular nail polish, the hardening stuff(I don't know if that is no bite, but I think no bite is the most disgusting tasting one. It is so annoying. My mom made a deal with me, if I stop she will let me get fake nails, which I am dying for. So what I suggest is, filing your nails, the hardening stuff(at least 2 coats), also I just did this I got these fake nails called "Impress" and they don't come off easily. I slept with them for 2 days and had to take them off because of school. My nails apparently grow really fast and now they are longer. I am gonna do this again!

NAIL TWINZIES :DD I always watch nail care videos with girls that have like SUPER long nails and immediately get envious :C it's nice to see someone else with the same length (it's a decent length to have ^^) and this is the longest my nails have ever been too :33 since recovering from anorexia (and bulimia) and started eating meat again (after 10 years =O) , my nails got MUCH stronger. But with my stomach condition getting the proper nutrients is more a responsibility than for vanity :C...so my nails break, chi, and split a lot :C...coconut oil, shea butter and keeping my hands, nails and cuiticles hydrated, not just "moisturized" has helped SO much. I even make my own nail oil and hand salves :33

I stopped biting my nails by only biting some of them at first and leaving the rest to grow. Over time i stopped biting more and more of them until most have grown out. After I saw how useful longer nails can be, and after not biting most of them for a while, I eventually stopped biting all of them.

If u want to stop biting your nails add any type of oil and if u put your nails in your mouth you will instantly take them out. It works for me because my nails were at 0.5 centimeter and now they are 1.2. And also i suggest to polish your nails cause u will not want to mess up your design.

I got acrylic nails to maybe help me break my habit of biting my nails, I thought that if I went a couple weeks without biting them and if I saw how long they were I wouldn't want to. But when I had them I realized I don't like having long nails I'd rather have them short so I trim them now.

I have a good tip to save your nails from accidental breakage if you're clumsy like me. Get in the habit of reaching for things with your knuckles rather than fingers outstretched, especially in the dark reaching for light switches or door handles.

For those in England with access to BOOTS Pharmacies. Give Nu Nail strengthening cream a try. I've tried so many expensive nail care products to strengthen and treat my dry brittle nails and nothing worked on that until I tried the cream. Its super cheap for about £2 end it helps strengthen, maintain, and GROW healthy happy nails. *goes back into hidey hole*

my tips to stop nail biting (and bear in mind I did it for like 13 or so years like I've ruined my nails beyond hope) is to 1, chew gum because if your mouth is occupied you won't bite your nails and also well gum tends to be sticky and, y'know, ew. 2, keeping your nails painted I know there's like apparently psychology with colors and whatnot but like not the point imo the nail polish just makes it taste bad and 3, I know this is like counterproductive to growing long nails but keeping them short so there's not a lot to chew on is a really good way to break the habit itself.

I've been using Develop 10 Calcium Gel as a base coat and it works really well for me! And I'm super gentle & careful specially with my swatching hand! Me screaming: ►"My nails, my nails!" Hahaha! ♥

When I'm not wearing my acrylics I put press on nails to stop me from biting and it helps my nails grow. Honestly tho nothing really helps unless I wear my acrylics I don't bite or mess with them since I paid for the nails and they're hard AF! They grow out longer and once you got the length you want I'd ask for gels so your nails don't chip!! Just my opinion. I need something strong on my nails because I'll always pick at them. They also break because I have eczema so I scratch my arms a lot. Which I know is a bad habit that I need to stop lol

i have been biting my nails for about 2ish years now and about 2 months ago i painted my nails for the first time in a longgg time and i realized that i got rlly frustrated cuz i couldn't bite my nails.:( so i decided this was better and i painted my nails every week or so. they grew out longer than they were before but not that long.:( they are still a lot shorter than yours in the beginning. but i like how they are now and that tip really helped me not bite my nails:)

On my instagram page I post pictures of my nails. You can totally tell when I am in holidays. Then my nails are long. On schooldays my nails are short, because I play volleyball and long nails aren't that good😅

I have super long nails! I'm always scared that I'll bump them into something 😅 Sometimes I bump them into the table while filming a tutorial 😂 I've heard that nail strengtheners make your nails brittle and more prone to breakage?

Some ways to stop biting is: -paint your nails pretty because you don't want to ruin the pattern -buy some type of nasty non nail biting serum to put on your nails -keep your self from biting one nail every week until you don't bite any of them

Nice vid! Your nails look fantastic! Hmm, I wonder if that's what's been helping me... I gave up my square shape and vacillate between a squoval and an oval and now I'm constantly filing them down because they get longer than I want them (I like them short enough to fit the smaller images from Moyou's plates, not the XL ones). I also believe that generous and frequent helpings of cuticle oil (which is mainly jojoba) assists as well.

When my brother and I both had a habit of biting our nails, my grandma made us use a clear nail polish that made your nails taste horrible when you but them. It was totally gross but it really worked!

If anyone bites their nails and can't stop if they don't like the taste of lemon juice for example they should paint their nails clear and add the juice of a lemon into the nail polish 🍋 then they're most likely to not like the taste and stop biting them I've never actually done this before but it just crossed my mind if anyone sees this and try's it if it works then you can share this with other people to help them stop

Instead of chewing your nails, try chewing gum because it will keep your mouth busy and also maybe have some little toy that you can mess with to keep your hands busy, like a stress ball or a bit of playdough or some other small thing that you can just carry around with you. Also I find that I don't chew my nails as much when they have a design on them that I like a lot so maybe try painting them in a way that you really like!

Hey Janelle! The smile lines of my nails are all wonky and have little jagged lines and strange points in them. Is there any way that I could straighten them out, or am I stuck with weird smile lines?! Please let me know!

I used to bite my nails a lot, like right under the smile line (trust me that hurt so much) and my family was really tired of it, so my sister took me to get acrylic nails. I had them on for 3-4 days until they would rise up a little bit on the sides and then id bite them off. Now, whenever i get my nails done, i keep rubber bands on me and i pull and release them on my skin as a reminder of 1) i payed money to get these done and 2) to stop. Now im not much of nail biter, but i still bite here and there ;/

I've tried going my nails for 1mth and it grew to the length between your previous and current length. I've always liked long nails but sometime I just really wish my nails are like unbreakable! because it's impossible for me to not use them and accidentally break them T.T And something, it's really a pain to have longer nails. Like it's so much easier to type with shorter nails and I don't get stuff stuck under it. Basically, I have this love hate relationship with long nails. It look so nice but yet it's a plain to have them sometimes.

Oval shape murders my nails fast. I have to do square or squoval. Mine are super long, even longer than yours, and are hard as rocks with a major c-curve. I use nail oil everyday to help them be a bit more flexible and less prone to cracking off.
