I find it so disheartening that you put yourself out there sharing what has been a traumatic time in your life and some people have the audacity to think they know more about your treatments and decisions that you! Just know I think you are a true warrior and I’m so pleased with your results. Keep being you❣️

People try to compare their experiences to mine and try to use their limited knowledge to help. It all comes from a good place and it is nice so many people care. I think it’s just a little annoying when they imply if I don’t do what they say I’m killing myself. They’re allowed to be wrong though 🤷‍♀️

Praise God everything went well! You are so tough, I get put under general to have my central line changed. I have medical ptsd and I panic like crazy in the table. Years ago I tried to get up during a line change, which was not good with it in my heart. I had like six guys laying on me. Now they are like, “Good night”! You face all of this with such grace and strength. I’m happy you are able to snuggle with your daughter, I think that has always been the toughest part of surgery. My son had autism, so my last big surgery in November he couldn’t understand why he had to be so gentle. I even did what his old ABA therapist said (I called her panicking) and showed him my stomach. I had a massive incision going from just under my chest to past my belly button. And then another incision that was horizontal on the left side of my body. I had something like 25 staples in one and 14 in the other. Luckily, it didn’t scare him and he was able to be gentle. The dog even knew I was hurt because she wanted to stay by me, and when my parents left I had to walk her out back. She is usually super reactive with other dogs, but she looked up at me, with the pillow under my hoodie so I could move, and turned and walked to the back door, it was amazing. You will be in our prayers, you’ve got this, you are awesome!

Hmmm. Very confusing. I thought the main idea was to find out why this tumor was growing despite the hormonal treatments you are on. It would seem to me that the FIRST thing they would want to know was if it were possibly HER2 or TNBC which would explain why it wasn’t responding. This information is vital in order to determine which treatments you’d have going forward. I’m no expert (although I have had to learn an AWFUL lot the past 4 years) but it seems weird to me that they didn’t do that right away as time is always of the essence when treating BC. Thanks for the update as I have been thinking of you a lot and wondering how things went. So glad you had minimal problems after surgery. Hope you have a wonderful weekend ❤
@SamanthaL
@SamanthaL 15 күн бұрын
I was confused too haha. My thought process is that it’s important to know but we might not act on it right away. If my current treatment continues to work well everywhere else in my body then there might not be a reason to switch up treatment even if receptors are different in the breast tumor. But, if something changes later on, the information would be very useful to help determine future treatment
@rebeccakarlsson1395
@rebeccakarlsson1395 15 күн бұрын
Doctors have their own way of thinking I guess. I’m one of those people who REALLY wants it all explained to me up front. Don’t want the extra stress of more waiting to find out more info. However it turns out for you, I hope it is what the doctors are hoping for. I wouldn’t even know what to wish for I’m so confused 😅.

So glad you are still thriving! Pathology reports are always fun to comprehend. Of course CT reports are dependent on the radiologist who writes them. Some are very detailed and others aren't. It seems as a patient we have to question everything. After 4 years of TESTS it is amazing that I continue to learn more about the results just from a very detailed radiologist report. My oncologist says I have to explain more to patients when certain radiologists write a report. Shouldn't all radiologist care to communicate with accuracy and detail? Neuropathy is another challenge we live with. Mine is in my feet and affects my balance. I hope you had a relaxing long memorial weekend.

Cancer sucks and you are a rockstar (I know, like me, you don't really have a choice😉) My daughter (she is 21 and I'm 42) is having a preventive mastectomy soon. I have the same cancer as you, but maybe with a worse oncotype (39.) My Mom had the same type of cancer and it was very aggressive. My Aunt was recently diagnosed with breast cancer before passing from Leukemia. Anyway because of awful are family history is plus my age when I was diagnosed, it put my daughter in the highest risk group for breast cancer. It will reduce her risk by 90% and while I hope they invent a vaccine and you and I get to live forever, this has given me the greatest peace of mind. I try to look for the positives in everything and that's my positive for the time bejng. I hope your treatment continues to work and I would not be surprised to learn the cancer in your breast was another type of breast cancer.

Hey there. Glad to hear the margins were clear at least. I asked about cording in one of your last videos and you responded. Thank you. I'm the one with the breast cancer was found in my lymph nodes, but not in my breasts, which is why I had a double mastectomy. I did forget to mention that they found extensive stromal fibrosis, many unidentified mass lesions and many cysts. I asked about the cording because I was wondering if you still had any now. After my surgery PT tried to get rid of them, but they couldn't and I have multiple in my armpit and one thick one that runs down my side, down the side of my breast area. Just wondering if you had any suggestions or something that was able to help. They are painful. Thank you for your videos ❤❤

Have you gone to a physical therapist who specializes in lymphedema? I think that is very important. Also, for me it was a very long process to get rid of it all. My lumpectomy was done with local anesthesia, it was by far the easiest surgery ive ever had..waiting for pathology however, was excruciating, i waited 12 days. It turned out i had an extremely rare breast epidermal inclusion cyst, the surgeon said he's never seen one in his entire career. I only had a bit of pain on the day of surgery and the next day but that was it.

@@SamanthaL It definitely is! When the surgeon was taking my cyst out, he said i'll call you with the results, it should be less than a week. I waited, he never called, i convinced myself it was cancer and that it was sent off for further testing, by 10days of not hearing from them i was 100% sure he wanted to tell me face to face it was cancer during my stitches removal appt. He walked in and told me about my cyst and how rare it is..I said to the woman when i was checking out i thought for sure it was cancer, she said oh we wouldve called you right away if it was..They're wonderful people and im glad i chose this surgeon but wow, they have no idea how hard it is to wait for results. This type of cyst will turn to cancer if not removed..so im glad i had it removed. Also, i had a biopsy before the surgery. The pathologist COMPLETELY missed my cyst, he got ZERO breast cells, my NP said she's never seen that happen, she told me not to get any more biopsies and just get my cyst removed. The pathologist and the hospital both billed me for the failed biopsy. Un f'g believable. This was just 3 months ago so im still massively pissed off about it.

Greetings from beautiful Sacramento California Samantha, I was SO glad to see that you had posted an update, because you have been on my mind a great deal. It's AWESOME to hear that the margins were clear!! And of course having an easy recovery is great as well! I had a procedure years ago that I'm not sure quite fits the term "lumpectomy", but if it's to be called a biopsy, then it was large (very deep). I'd felt a lump, so I went in & I'm not sure if you're familiar with the breast cancer research stamp or not, but the creator of the idea was my surgeon, Dr. Ernie Bodai!! My incredible late Mom was still working at Kaiser at the time, & of course knew Dr. Bodai. He created the stamp because he was sick of telling his patients they had cancer. ANYWAY....he removed this large lump, & saw to it that the pathologist looked at it straightaway. I got a call from him that night saying it was a fibrous lump, so was fortunate. For me, that recovery was painful, perhaps because it was so deep, but DEFINITELY BECAUSE of nerve pain! Dr. Bodai was unable to avoid disrupting a nerve, and many many years later if that hole (I can stick my finger down inside) is touched it's painful. On a positive note, the scar is invisible to anybody besides me! And from just looking at it, you can't really tell that there's a very deep hole either! Currently I've been noticing that the same breast (left) just hurts. It's a widespread sensation, and I'm not sure what to make of it. I've got other health issues that are causing much more difficulties, so they are always top of mind. I've had ulcerative colitis for 39 years now, and my immune system doesn't work. So I'm in a particularly nasty flare up that keeps me in the bathroom & unable to leave my home, even if I take the lomotil! And since my immune system doesn't work, I'm CONSTANTLY fighting multiple infections. So those things are so disruptive that feeling my breast ache goes to the back burner as it were. Fear is a big factor as well. I've always been afraid that at my frequent colonoscopies they're eventually going to find colon cancer. I'm almost COMPLETELY POSITIVE that I wouldn't have treatment. First, general anesthesia killed my dad. And second, I'm TRULY PHOBIC of vomiting. So the prospect of agreeing to chemotherapy where vomiting is extremely prevalent, sounds entirely IMPOSSIBLE to me! And finally....my husband has decided he doesn't love me anymore because I don't support tRUMP, a sexual predator, when he knows I'm a survivor of multiple sexual assaults. And also because I believe what my Immunologist is saying when he tells me that due to my chronic lung disease, if I were to get COVID it would almost CERTAINLY be fatal. My family & previous decades long friends know EXACTLY how sick I am, but not a single one of them is willing to get vaccinated, which is heartbreaking. It shows you how important you are to somebody, that's for sure!! Clearly they don't give a rip. Sheesh......I'm sorry this got so long Samantha! It looks like I needed to vent, because the words came almost faster than I could type! Once again, I'm so happy to hear that your margins are clear!!❤

Hi Samantha, good news about the margins, I was wondering, what is the importance of finding out the receptors ?
@SamanthaL
@SamanthaL 14 күн бұрын
Good question. It can give us information on how the cancer in my body is behaving and can give guidance on what treatments to try

My understanding is that to check for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2-positive), the tumour has to be processed in a specific way and a special assay applied, which can take several days. Is that correct? Is there any genetic sequencing involved in this process or are they using some kind of reagent test?
@SamanthaL
@SamanthaL 14 күн бұрын
Yes I think it can take a week or so but it’s been over 2 weeks and I know they haven’t even started the process yet. We will be sending a sample off for further testing
