I HAD THAT SAME PROBLEM YOUR INSTRUCTIONS STILL DID NIT WORK-- SO I ROTATED THE BOBBIN HOLDER WITH THAT TOOTH ON IT CLOCKWISE SO THAT HOOK WAS PAST THE NEEDLE SO NOW WHEN THE BOBBIB HOLDER SPINS PAST THE NEEDLE IT GRABS THE THREAD EVERY G D TIME. Rotate no in holder hook at about 10:00 or just past or clockwise past the needle and that hook will pull up your bobbin thread every time. ITS ALL ABOUT THE HOOK ON THE BOBBIN HOLDER- Period

It sounds like to may need to realign the needle to the top cover hole or the timing is off causing the presser foot to move before the needle clears the top.

I can't seem to keep the upper thread from breaking. Have adjusted tension and done everything I can think of. Your videos have helped a lot but I haven't seen one with my problem. Does the tension need to be really tight? I am having problems with loops underneath when I can get it to sew a bit. Doesn't seem to matter what I do, three or four stitches or less and the upper thread breaks. It almost looks like it is frayed. I will have to send it back I guess, unless you can help. thanks les

i had the same problem, but after a frustrating ehile i figured it out by myself. my issue is, that while i am sewing, not every sitch is made and my top thread breaks if i go too fast. I think it does have something to do with the tesioning thinngies...
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks3 жыл бұрын
More than likely that's a timing issue and not a tension issue. Those tension disk on top would have to be tightened all the way down to snap the upper thread. It could be a needle bar issue as well

Hi, I am interested in getting one of this machines as I dont have the BUCKs to get one of pricey ones, my question is what type of sewing needles, commercial or regular home sewing machine, does it use? What is the largest thread size that it can take and can it use waxed thread? thanks in advance! Great video saved it for when I get my machine!!
@deankay44345 жыл бұрын
@Carlos Duron The original needles are serious HA X 1 or 110/18 sold at Bantam Saddle Tack-Stuff. This works with thread size 138/ TEX135 bonded poly thread. Waxed thread works the same as bonded poly. This thread I first mentioned has a 21 lb. tensile strength so good for leather, tarps, canopies, cardboard and automotive plastics used as fasteners. Hope this helps as I own one of these, built simple wood base and screw clamp onto front corner of Juki DDL-5550-6 table with a "C" clamp for easy removal. I am going to build a "Knee-type" pressor foot lifter as I figured out a design for it using my wooden stand it is mounted to. Just some linkage going to the back of the machine, next to the cam. Edit: Bonded polyester thread instead of nylon! Best of luck!
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks5 жыл бұрын
I agree with Dean Kay. I would only add that using wax thread is not recommended, but I have used waxed thread with success. I would only use one tension disk and use a credit card to scrap off and extra wax.

great video! Using this and few more of your videos i was able to time and sew with my new machine. One thing I did in addition was to add thick grease to the bearing portions on the cam, wheel, pitman arm, and other rotating surfaces. it's smooth as butter now.
@Rstifleable22 күн бұрын
OK, so here’s the problem I running into. I set the cams exactly as you described, then I positioned the handle at the wheel at 12 o’clock inserted the shuttle at 3 o’clock. When I inserted the bobbin and shut the bobbin cover. Everything is good right? It is picking up the bobbin thread, but it gets in a knot all around the bobbin. I can’t figure this problem out. I’m using a standard needle and thread so it’s not a problem with those two items. I polished the bobbin and shuttle to ensure the thread didn’t tangle due to fish hooks or something else. The timing should be correct. I went step by step to ensure it is. But obviously something is off. Any ideas??

I've got one of these machines in my possession. It will not pick up the bobbin thread. I've watched your videos and tried everything you suggest. It still will not pick up the bobbin. As far as I can tell following your videos the machine is set up properly. Do you have any other suggestions for things I can try?
@vernmyers22564 жыл бұрын
I kept fiddling with the machine. Started adjusting the stroke of the arm that has the rack that engages with the pinion on the bobbin mechanism (I have no idea what these parts are called). Suddenly it started picking up the bobbin and seems to be working just fine now. This machine is not mine, it belongs to an organization that I belong to. The person that acquired it got a screaming deal on it, but it has not been used since its acquisition. I think I know why it was so cheap. But it works now and I can put all the frustration behind me. I'm not sure at this point if it will fulfill my needs. I'm not sure that it will handle the super heavy thread that I want to use. But if I can get it to stop marring up the leather with the walking foot maybe I can at least use it to punch holes for me.
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks4 жыл бұрын
I am glad you were able to get it sewing. These machines are very rough. Some people take care of the presser foot by grinding off the rough edges and dipping it into rubberized paint. I hope this helps
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks4 жыл бұрын
That gear you adjusted is called the pittman rod.

great video .can u tell me how to set the timing when installing the crank handle ?
@deankay44345 жыл бұрын
Hopefully you have found your answer by now, but he has other videos that cover this issue. The answer is the hand wheel handle is at 12 O’Clock. This where you ate the bobbin drive at 3 O’clock and the bobbin shuttle drops in. Using large thread like TEX 135 / Size 138 will work in the needle series HA X 1, metric 110/18. TEX 135 has a 21 lb. tensile strength if using bonded nylon thread. I use this thread in the bobbin tension thru #2 bottom hole, across tension spring into #1 top hole closest to hook. Hope this helps all.

Thanks. I’m still struggling. Especially after watching all of these videos. I keep breaking needles and I realize that in some configurations the needles goes fine, but when I rotate the head it stops clearing the hole in the bottom plate. Is my rod warped? Is this common?
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks2 жыл бұрын
Sadly this is a common issue due to the circles at the end of the presser foot and stitch length arms not being true and level. I heat treated mine and banged them true with a hammer, but be careful with the smaller circle on the presser foot arm because it's just brazed together.

It sounds like your needle driver is adjusted to low, check out this video to see if that's the problem: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5vHlIxopdWrrq8. Your needle driver should stick up a 1/4 inch from the lug that operates the needle driver up and down. If that did not fix the issue; then check the bobbin to make sure it's loaded in the bobbin well correctly.

@@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks I made the simple mistake of threading the needle front to back (needle positioned wrong) instead of left to right! it would always tear after the first round otherwise. Also helped to adjust the bottom (pitman) rod so it extended fully during the main bearing wheel rotation.

@Kevin Blanchard The needle series is HA X 1 or metric 110/18. This means the shank is 1.10mm and 1.8mm eyelet. This works with thread size138/TEX135 bonded poly thread that has a tensile strength of 21 lbs. This is “UV” stabile, resist chemicals from hydrocarbons to most solvents. Used in automotive upholstery, canopies, tarps, plastic fasteners in autos and boat covers. So great for things exposed outdoors. As a Retired ASE Master Tech, I do a lot of research and watch great videos like “Manly Acres”. Hope this helps!

The words cover up what you are doing. If you could put the text at the top of the video that would help.

alright, new issue im experiencing, after stitching on leathers and suedes of different thickness' the tension on the bottom threads seem to has loosened. You can see the looseness on the bottom, also if you put the bottom thread, it slips right out. How do you fix the tension on the bobbin thread? Ive screwed the screw on the bobbin as tight as it will go.

There are two ways to make adjustments to the spring tension on the bobbin shuttle. The first way is to adjust where the spring comes in contact with the thread on the shuttle with the shuttle threaded. Using a small screwdriver move the spring up to the top of the channel and give a test pull. If the thread pulls right out, move the spring to the lower end and give it another try. If that does not fix it, move on to step two which requires removing the spring and adding a slight downward bend to the spring, this will give a bit more tension on the thread. If you bend it too much the tension will be really tight on the holes furthest away from the mounting screw and no tension at all on the opposite set. I hope this helps, thank you for your comment.

You may need to adjust your needle bar down a bit more.

I’m wanting to order one , but I have read comments on different ones, like there’s 3 or 4 machines on Amazon ! I guess my question is what band to get ? Can you point me in the right direction ?

They are all made by the same Chinese company and renamed by the sellers. Now there are different models, but those are made by Vipkey and they are a lot more money (300 and up).

Have you tried following these steps?

Listen to all your videos on the bobbin not picking up the thread, following all your suggestions, nothing worked, finally figured it out, if your needle shaft falls out of the hole on top, if you don't put it back in the hole, in the right position your bobbin won't thread, simple but had me up for 3 nights trying to fix

I have a question for you. When I try to run that first cycle to pull the bobbin thread out...my needle thread tangles around the bobbin shuttle and knots, so then I have to take it all back apart and cut the knot out and then rethread everything. Why is that happening? An answer to that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Hey I just bought one of these I’ve gone thru all the steps you have shown on both videos . I have the bobbin and shuttle place at the thee o’clock and handle at 12 .. It still can’t thread the bobin … I’m using the thin plastic thread that came with the machine. It look like 2-4 pound black fishing line . I also used the black plastic thread it came with to respool the bobin . Originally came with white fiber thread. ..( could I be the type of thread that’s my problem. ) Every now and then it will thread the Bobin and so I start sewing some leather to find that the top thread gets stuck in the with every stitch in the bobin . .. (Is this the top thread tension not pulling the thread out of the bobin .??) Thank you for your time and help .
@MainelyAcresFarmBrooks2 жыл бұрын
Could be that the top tension is not strong enough to pull it or the bobbin thread is way too tight.

Hi!! First of all Thank you so much for all your videos! They have been really helpful, unfortunately I can’t make the machine to pick up the bottom tread, I’ve already watched all three of your videos about the same issue, I did the 12 and 3 o’clock positions, adjusted the needle bar (up and down), adjusted the bar the moves the bottom mechanism, and make sure that the crank is well installed... I wonder what else might be?? Or if you can help me some other way? Thanks in advance, God bless you.

Never mind, I got that working!!! Now it’s cutting the top tread after a while, I have seen some more comments about it I’m pretty sure it needs some adjusting somewhere else... Thank you very very much my man!! You are awesome!!!
