My makeup technique from 7 years ago compared to how I do my makeup today! How has my style changed? Learn from my mistakes and improve your skills at the same time! It's amazing how much we grow and change, things we learn and how we evolve over time. This was an interesting comparison, especially seeing the two sides right next to each other. How has your makeup application changed from 5 - 7 years ago?!

Omg I didn’t know folks were that harsh of them. I’m 61 and have hooded eyes that have become somewhat down turned as I get older. A trick I’ve learned thanks to Robert Welsh and I do it before my eyeshadow I use a peach color correct just a little in the inner and outer corner and tap in you know the one dot 2 dot trick and like you now mascara on the bottom lash line but a little medium taupe in the center very close to my lash line. But dear I had no idea folks were that cruel with words such harsh criticism. My goodness. I started watching you after my 2Nd major back surgery June 2017. You were my 2nd subscription. I watched you through the birth of your 3 little angels. And tried to give words of encouragement to trust yourself and your GOD given maternal instincts. Sort through what others give but remember you grew them for 9 months how the move I. The womb is that personality they’re born with and just intensifies the older they get. That’s why no one knows them better than mom. But I don’t think I’ve seen a more beautiful pregnant woman. And yes I love my girls and we’re and are beautiful but you were stunning. Anyways the older we get the more I find less is more. But yes always trust yourself and growth is an option. I’ve watched you blossom. But I never thought anything negative about your tutorials. Actually I saved and still have all of your wet and wild 10 pan tutorials so thank you for being so thourough because that helped me. We share the same faith so thank you for being bold and allowing us to share that with you. You’ve given me words of encouragement even when you didn’t know it. I had to have a revision spinal surgery removing all my 2017 hardware replacing it and going up a level. So this triple fusion I had 8/25/20. You’ve been a blessing for me to watch ad I heal. So please keep doing what you do!👍🏻💕😘🙏🏼🙏🏼 and don’t ever be one discouraged because you are a blessing. Even if you didn’t know it. God bless you thanks for all the great tutorials and for being so real and transparent 💕👍🏻👍🏻👌🏻😘🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I found you on you tube just about 7 or 8 years ago. I remember I used to be up in the middle if the night with my newborn son at the time and loved binging your makeup time travels where you would highlight the individual decades of how makeup was applied. I love these videos of how much we transform over the years. I know even my own application has differed over the years too. I used to get so excited knowing you lived in the same town as me also. One day I just hoped I would run into you at CVS or something lol!!!! I still love you and videos! You bring joy and pure love for your viewers. Your spirit is infectious and I always feel happy after seeing one of your videos. So great to watch your family grow...this was even before any kiddos. Thanks for letting me ramble...I enjoyed this video. It was nostalgic for me too!!! I wish I was a SAHM mom again sneaking makeup toots!!!! Love Ya Zabrena!!!

I think so too...I think it's because Zabrena has a smaller forehead -- on me with a 5head this would not fly, but I actually think she looked really pretty and different in a classy way in the 20ish look for the eye area. If she walked out on the street, the only thing I'd notice besides how pretty she looks, is that you can notice compared people around you now the look isn't done very often anymore, but that's pretty much it.

For me, learning how to deal with my oily skin has been BIG game changer. I did not know oily skin needs moisturizing too. I have also learned how to pick shades to suit my undertone. I have both warm and cool undertones and picking a neutral undertones works for me. And I also use smaller makeup brushes for my eyes. No more muddy eye looks. Now wearing makeup is fun for me because I have learned to so many tips.

This tutorial was very, very helpful to me! I’m a mature woman with rounded turn-down eyes (like a panda bear) and a hooded lid. The placement of the crease and outer V shadows is very helpful. I’ve been experimenting with false lashes and wonder how far from the outside edge to trim them without them being too short. I find the tip about using your eyelash curler after applying the lash does bring them together with my own lash to give a more natural look. Thank you Zabrena!!!

When I saw the length of this video I got all giddy. More Zabrena??? Yes! You are younger than me, but I swear, we did our makeup virtually the same way (except false lashes; I’ve never had the skill set for those! LOL) It’s amazing that as younger women we tried to cover our beauty instead of just allowing it to shine. Now my daily makeup goal is to use as little product as possible and therefore look as natural as possible. You look beautiful now, and you certainly did 7 years ago. And shame on anyone who EVER said anything different. Thank you for this; it was so much fun to watch your application and hear your thought process while applying your looks!! 💜 🤗 💖

I've not commented before, but I have really enjoyed your videos for several years! This video today is particularly helpful to me, Zabrena! I didn't really know how to apply make up that well, but after a Triple Negative Breast Cancer diagnosis, I began to watch YT videos to learn how to better apply make up, especially eye make up in order to help improve my body image post mastectomy, before reconstruction. I don't have downturned eyes, but I do still have difficulty with applying my outer V make up. It's comforting to know that it is something that others have also experienced as well! Thanks for sharing what you've learned over time! I hope I also progress as time marches on! Take care, and thanks again, Sherrey🎀🎗🎀

I don't dislike the 2020 brow, but I like the 2013 brow more for some reason. I still need to learn how to best fill mine in. They are full enough, but extremely blond. For years I never bothered using brow products, but then I saw a picture of myself and realized they could use some color, especially if I'm wearing a lot of eyeshadow. I don't like to apply anything on the lower lash, either. I feel like black mascara makes my lower lashes look like spider legs. Every once in a while I'll do a colorful mascara or liner, but in general, I leave it bare.

I used to only use sponges. The throw away drugstore variety. Now I love brushes for my foundation. I have days where I do not wear any makeup, then I wear whatever I like when I do. I tend to think, "If you don't like it, don't look." lol. at 41 with super oily skin, I do still love to be as matte as possible. Don't mind a bit of shine breakthrough, but I definitely start with lots of powder on the days I do wear makeup.

I genuinely think you pull off both brows! And it's crazy just how different products and methods work on different people! So many people love using a sponge to apply their foundation but on me it just doesn't work! It has to be a brush. And I kept feeling like something was wrong with me almost because why wasn't I loving using a beauty sponge as much as everyone else seems to? Until I finally told myself why am I trying to like a method of application I don't like just because so many others do?! It's my makeup and my face! I should do it how I want to! That's something I've always admired about you is you do you when it comes to your makeup! I liked seeing how your tastes and techniques have changed over the years and I'm glad you didn't feel you had to bash yourself because of those changes! 💜

You still look so young it’s hard to believe I’ve been watching you for so long! There’s nothing you did or could do that would diminish your beauty.

What a difference these techniques make!! So much easier to understand seeing you do them side by side! I too have learned that less is more with foundation. Great video!

We are all on the trip of life and we are constantly learning, as far as we are true with ourselves. So I've learned not to judge badly my old self and to accept that I was simply more unconscious. I think we should think about how we were like a mother who thinks about her child, with love and comprehension. Thank you Zabrena for this video! It isn't just makeup, it's an occasion to think and reflect! 💕💕

This was so interesting. I don't wear makeup everyday, but I definitely feel like I'm in a transitional period of learning and applying. Your videos are always a lovely comfort to watch, so thank you and I hope you have a great week x

My hooded eyes thank you. The outer v had vexed me for years. Dropping the lower lash mascara, saves a whole step! Great video💟👍

Lol i literally use a dense brush for the sane reason and bring my shadow down too low. I have hooded eyelids so i have learnt to bring the colour higher. I end up looking like some weird 80s teen fron the movies. Im learning from your mistakes, thank you. I shall try the the non droopy method and work on my outer v skills because i still cannot get that :/

We definitely learn a lot over the years with makeup! It’s crazy to think that I liked some of the things I used to do, especially with my brows. Experience is essential! This video is a great reminder that trying new techniques is key to mastering your ideal makeup application. 💗

Hey Zabreena, I've followed your channel since 2014, and you were and are on point with the makeup of the time. I wish you weren't so hard on yourself as to why you chose to makeup your face the way you did, because you did really great with what you knew was best, you certainly taught me a lot. You always do a great job, and since I'm fair, oily, and freckly skinned in Miami, FL, I look forward to your vlogs for relevant weatherproof makeup reviews, tips, and deals.

I never comment, but here I am to point a few things: You were the first beauty blogger (back when it wasn't even KZbin! MyEyeshadowConsultant I think?) that taught me how to do eyeshadow in a way I could see as achievable and relate to real life. All the looks elsewhere back then (I wanna say.. 2011, 2012?), they were all either too editorial, or too glam, or too much. You had this blog post I found where you had several different combinations for the first UD Naked pallette and I was like --- oooohhh I could actually wear that!! I also must say I loved the way you looked! You looked original, fresh, different, from the start. I loved the eyes you say were "droopy". They have style, personality. It is an amazing mix of a 20s meets 70s meets 90s languish eyes, part Marlene Dietrich, part Sophia Loren, part Lisa Marie Presley. It is unique, and it's lovely. I must also say that I have been following and watching your KZbin channel since the beggining too, and I like the evolution of your style - all the phases, different hair hues, different looks, the historical makeup series and so on. and last, your eyeshadow application 7 years ago was so much better than I think I'll ever be, that I'm actually amazing at how you managed to make it even better! :D I can't say how much I learned from you, how many looks I watched over and over trying to recreate and how you taught me that expensive makeup doesn't necessarily mean better - and that I can look awesome without breaking the bank. So for all that, thank you :)

This was so helpful!! I have hooded eyes too and I bring my crease color out too much and downward to go with natural curve. Thank you for pointing out how this gives a droopy effect!! Noted.
