6:11 To be frank, although I wouldn't mind the return to classic single item boxes like how they worked in the older games, I really think Double Item Boxes in 8DX are actually kinda awesome. They add a whole new dynamic to the tracks by encouraging racers to go for worse lines in order to get the best items, which I think counteracts how strong Frontrunning can be if you just bomb it straight away from the rest of the pack - they get stronger items and can catch up or deal with taking the smaller boxes, while you have to think strategically mainly because of the Coin Item, about wether you should try and keep the best lines possible to stay ahead, or go for a worse route to get more items and guarantee you have at least something defensive. Personally, I love the concept of having them, but I wouldn't mind if in future games they could be replaced with something else but I'm not sure what (maybe boxes that are more likely to give you stronger items or the specials from double dash? Who knows)

I think the concept of changing lap routes that the BCP added has a lot of potential. I know that the design of the city tracks caused this feature to get stale, but with better track design like in Piranha Plant Cove, I think this could be a cool way to spice up future nitro tracks (and possibly retros)!

I think my 'hottest take' is probably that Mario Kart Wii is an incredibly overrated game. Like don't get me wrong, I love the game myself, but too often I see it heralded as the objective best Mario Kart that has no flaws, when that's really not the case. Again, I love the game myself, but it absolutely has a lot of flaws.

I see this for a lot of franchises and series where the game that's considered the best is often the most overrated or doesn't deserve it's title. I for one always felt MKDS was the best in the series, but that could also just be my nostalgia.

@@plvto1i never liked MKDS. I dont really have nostalgia for it and the rubber banding in the game is pretty bad. I really like the driving in the game tho, and snaking is fun to pull off when you’re good at it. wii has good driving, being 2nd best imo but you can really only use 5 combos in that game and the rest are garbage. My favorite is mk8dx because the items are somewhat balanced (being a good thing) and the amount of viable characters in the game is really nice.

IIRC the trade-off for the FIB in 64 was that it couldn’t be thrown forward like the Banana but knocked people into the air instead of a simple spin-out. It was definitely also the most convincing because the ‘?’ being upside down was the only difference from a normal box (and the game ran at, like, 360p so it was hard to see lol).

Not sure if this is a hot take or not, but i miss the Winged Blue Shell, I hate how its designed in 8, where it will hit people on its way to 1st, which basically goes against the entire purpose of the item, Mario Kart 8 is bad about having too many offensive items, and just having another item that can hit you in any placement is really draining

this feels hot enough and i do actually disagree. the blue shell already is a mess design-wise because it being obtained far back and targeting primarily first means it does not help the player that gets it (and imo, it should definitely not be obtainable in 2nd or even 3rd), and it being able to git others along the way allows it to be kinda useful for them since it helps clear the middle of the track (not the inside line, but better than nothing) there's also that mk8 has many offensive items, but it's also that generally offensive items are much more useful for more places than defensive items, which only 1st and maybe 2nd and 3rd would really want

I do agree that Bone Dry Dunes is overhated. It’s better than other desert courses like Yoshi desert and dry dry desert, but I wouldn’t say it’s as good as dry dry ruins or kalamari desert. You wanna hear my hot takes? Electrodrome isn’t as good as everyone says it is. No matter how hard I try, I can’t see the appeal of squeaky clean sprint. Dolphin shoals is one of the worst courses in the game, the only good thing about it being the music which everyone chooses to hyper focus on. But my biggest one? Alpine Pass is one of the greatest tracks in the whole series and deserves more love.

Both your opinions surrounding Double Dash i genuinely agree with, the double item box in 8dx sucks, you cant even switch items, and im so happy to hear someone agree with me on how nintendo has modernized its courses over the years, especially the butchering of Daisy cruiser. I also agree with customizable karts going and the Nintendo kart thing, although I dont want any non Mario characters in the game. Give me Captain Syrup, Foreman Spike, Mona, Tiny and Candy Kong, K Rool, Stanley the Bugman, Wart, and Sprixie Princess before any other franchises get in... with some exceptions because some non mario series really fit in the mario aesthetic like ice climbers and balloon fight. Honestly I headcanon those series to be in the marioverse already but whatever. My biggest opinion is to make Mario Kart 10 (tour is 9) a double dash sequel which means bring back all of its physics (because theyre perfection)

I agree with double box, it feels like I have to spend a dedicated focus to make sure that either I get that double block for myself or block someone else from getting it and if I happen to miss it or someone happens to grab it, it just a feel bad gamble that I missed and now I’m basically a fish in a barrel in a game like Mario Kart. But furthermore, I don’t see the Point of Double Items, I always crave to switch the items around and I can’t… so I’m forced to use them in an order that I luckily got or unluckily got. My personal take; let’s us either allow us to switch items with double carry items, or just go back to single item carry.

My hot takes: 3DS Rainbow Road is overrated. The OG Yoshi Circuit is kinda mid. Both Sherbet Land tracks are great. The older Mario Kart games aren’t that janky, just play as Toad and you won’t have problems playing the tracks. Sky-High Sundae is a banger. Paris Promenade is one of the best real life city tracks and is better than Singapore Speedway. Singapore Speedway is overrated. Mushroom Bridge is kinda mid. Wuhu Loop > Maka Wuhu.

I've got my own take that I think might be pretty scalding: I'm very mixed on Mario Kart 7's music it's got some bangers like Rainbow Road, Neo Bowser City, and the one for both Wuhu Island tracks (in fact, bonus hot take: I like the Cheep Cheep Lagoon music) but there's also a select few songs I'm just not a fan of, like DK Jungle, Shy Guy Bazaar, Rosalina's Ice World, Piranha Plant Slide, Wario Shipyard, and ESPECIALLY Daisy Hills; I really don't like that last one also ironically I'm not too big on Music Park's music lol

Here are some of mine: First, RRM from 7 is my absolute favourite track oot. The 8dx kinda ruined it but its still soooo good. Rosalina's Ice World is the most Underrated track. It has such a beautiful, almost melancholic, song that makes me cry every rime and also the track layout actually fits the special cup (ahem DKJ) if you can't tell MK7 is my fav game lol However, DK Summit is NOT a track I particularly enjoy. Specifically the 8dx version (wii is fine). It angers me how bad the track is in 8dx, because WHY IS THE DOUBLE SHORTCUT EASIER THAN THE SINGLE? there is so much i can get into but i think i'll save you DKS lovers the despair I think that is all I need to share, if there is any opinion on any track you want to know just name it :3

Rainbowser's Castle is such a cool concept I want to see it in the next Mario Kart. And I do have a hot take that the next Mario Kart should have no retro tracks, except maybe Piranha Plant Pipeline, which could be considered a nitro track just like how the non city tour tracks were considered nitro tracks in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass.

I play Bowser in every mario kart game, but he feels so bad to use in Mk8. He's a speed character so he's faster on straightaways right? Nope. The light characters can snake on straights to outspeed you. And they turn better. And they have better mini turbo. Also weight does nothing in this game so your one advantage is moot :')

The main points I disagree with are as follows •Bone Dry Dunes is not satisfying to drive on once you get to the split paths. The turns don’t flow well at all. Then you get to the anti-grav section that’s just so much faster than the other and is basically a straight away. Then there’s the glider section with a top path that has such an obscure way to get there that there are still a ton of people that don’t know how to do it. The sand geyser does not at all indicate that it is a trampoline. The final shortcut has bone structures that appear to be breakable, especially considering they appear to line the whole off-road, but are just solid walls, leaving the unfortunate driver that tried to boost through them in the middle of the off-road miles from the track. I’ll admit the first part is fine and the aesthetics are fine (not better than what came before it) but the track is still among the worst in MarioKart •My main issue with Ice Ice Outpost is the shortcuts. The first doesn’t flow well to either the second or back to the track, the second doesn’t flow well to the track, often leaving you with a blind jump, and the third comes too soon after a glider to not be frustrating. •Wii U Rainbow Road is extremely frustrating because a single anti-grab boost can completely ruin your lines, sending you flying off the edge, many of the lower place items are impossible to use, and the track switching section has finicky gravity. •Double item boxes add a risk, reward element to the item boxes. Do you go out of your way to get that extra item or do you risk only grabbing one? Do you try to beat your opponent to it or go for a single that no one is driving towards?

Disagree with the double item box take for 3 reasons. Aside from finding the chaos a lot more fun, I think double is an interesting way to help balance the game. 1:(a bit of a hot take) Double gives first place a disadvantage due to coin. Coin is a well designed item in 8 Deluxe(not base 8), due to being dud. First place now needs to cycle through two boxes or go out of their way for a double, which allows for more time for players in the back to catch up or get items in the back to hit first. Granted fake item boxes(or new dud) can be introduced which allows for singles to return. 2: Items with timers don’t feel as bad to play, since you can now collect a 2nd item. I really don’t think most casuals are going to remember the correct timing for items to get another item in time. 3: A lot more obvious in the BCP, but double item box locations are off the main path, which requires players to take risks or carry an item into it.

Okay here we go I'll give a hot take for every mario kart (no arcades) Super Mario Kart: I agree with your take, I think you can get some genuine enjoyment from this game, sure it's not impressive by today standards but once you really get the hang of the track layouts and learn how to take turns it's really fun to play through, the AI cheating is bs not gonna sugarcoat it Mario Kart 64: This might not be a hot take but I think this might be the worst Mario Kart, yes, even worse than tour, and I seriously don't get anyone who defends this game and believe me there are people who do that. Not only most of the tracks are real long which can be a drag (especially Wario Stadium and Rainbow Road) but the handling of this game is tedious, I dislike it how you drift, it feels awkward to race and don't get me started on the AI, and being able to esentially make bananas obsolete is a weird design for a kart racer. Overall it might be the one that set the standard but pretty much every mario kart after this improves on it. Mario Kart Super Circuit: This might be the most underrated mario kart game ever. Now it probably sounds insane but the slippery physcis honestly make it fun, again just like Super Mario Kart (btw Super Circiut > SMK) More people should give it a chance and for its limitations it has decent tracks! Mario Kart Double Dash: i dont get why people remember MKDS for its snaking when really Double Dash had it worse, you could snake way easier and more often than DS Mario Kart DS: I think the item balance this game had was interesting and they should do more stuff like this because obviously if youre' good you go for the small karts with better stats but if youre not so good you go for bigger karts with better items, and if youre really really good at the game you could go with a bigger kart and rain chaos on others. Outside of that this game graphics have aged.. badly. Mario Kart Wii: This game is a bit overrated, don't get me wrong, I grew up with it and I love it even to this day but the balancing was... not good, the fact bikes can do wheelies invadilates karts so hard it's not evne funny, not even snaking can help. And talking about certain karts, some karts (and even low drift bikes) can barely turn making it almost if not impossible to race in some tracks, like some vehicles have only speed and only the speed and turns like a truck. Also the Flame Runner was a mistake, yeah sure let's give a bike high miniturbo, high speed and high weight, all the best stats in a single bike. And i don't get how is this the "melee" of Mario Kart like what, are you telling me that the chaotic item system is highly comptetitive? like how you can get constantly blue shell'd by others? or how in 1v1 or rooms with small amount of players, a player could essentially dominate the race because 2nd or 3rd place doesn't get enough strong items? (Unlike in MK8 where if you're far enough you get stronger items) Mario Kart 7: This game might have brought gliding and driving underwater but it feels.... not so special, maybe because of MK8 essentially taking all of that and adding antgravity buut i digress. And... I did not care for 3DS Rainbow Road, I don't get the big hype for it Mario Kart 8: Sorry again this may not be a hot take buuuut, this game has good balancing, yeah sure if you're on high level play you have to use the teddy buggy kart with yoshi.. or do you? technically speaking there are other characters who share the similar stats with Yoshi and plus, it def beats seeing only TWO whole characters as the meta so at the very least you can use other characters.... And the thing with balacing wheels is that you forgot that only the miniturbo matters, if it weren't for that rollers wouldnt be used. As far as I know two stats matter: Speed and Miniturbo and guess what? they did a good job at balancing that, slick tires and good looking karts get better speed meanwhile smaller silly karts and small tires get more miniturbo. If only miniturbo mattered then everyone would be going biddy kart with light characters, and if only speed mattered then you'd get Mario Kart 8 Wii U. Outside of that I agree with your take abotu double items. Oh also, i feel like the antigravity could have been implemented in more tracks in the BCP. (Also also based! another Dry Dune fan!!) Mario Kart Tour: yes this game exists and dw im not gonna call it a hidden masterpiece but its atleast better than MK64. I had fun with it, even more now since they got rid of the gachas... mostly. But one thing i can say is this game is totally carried by its character roster. I would say it's probably C+ tier

Honestly, I respect that. I had that exact same thought as a potential idea for this vid but I realized that I actually kinda feel that way about Gliding and Underwater too. All three are just Cool Factor and little else IMO, but Anti-Gravity might just have the highest Cool Factor of all 3 (and the lowest impact on controls) so I left it out.

The biggest issue with 3DS Bowser’s Castle is that it didn’t even try to be cohesive. It just feels like the developers didn’t agree on what would be the main gimmick of this track, so they just dumped all their ideas into the track.

I mean, SNES tracks (and by proxy GBA tracks) can have interesting layouts, but they can fall flat as 8 remakes either because they’re, as you said, flat, which can make them less interesting compared to the tracks that go crazy with verticality and anti-gravity, or because they haven’t been given apt graphical upgrades. I feel like the graphical upgrade part can be more of the problem, because SNES Mario Circuit 3, for example, really drop the ball in comparison to the other material present, contrast to a track like SNES Donut Plains 3, which I’m actually quite a fan of in 8 largely because of how great it looks, on top of being a decently interesting track for it’s flatness. Of course, good graphics aren’t everything, as a track like GBA Mario Circuit, despite being good looking, isn’t very interesting layout-wise. Though, I’d still take it over most of the BCP SNES and GBA remakes. Also, remakes of SNES and GBA tracks can be made more interesting layout wise, as with examples like GBA Ribbon Road and GBA Cheese Land. With their added verticality and function, they fit in more with the more modern material. Also, I wanna mention how they butchered GBA Sky Garden. Somehow they made it less interesting than the original, and it just kinda feels like a different track. But at the same time, they could’ve made it more interesting with some sort of anti-gravity implementation, which should’ve been a no-brainer for a sky-themed track. I dunno, the remake just feels so… nothing.

Well to be honest I attribute the lackluster visuals of Mario Circuit 3 to the Booster Course Pass not wanting to do much, but I get what you mean. As for the GBA tracks, I honestly might make an entire video about it, because it’s so weird that that game in particular just gets full redesigns almost every time nowadays. I like the new Sky Garden, but it is NOT the original Sky Garden lol.

I personally dont agree with DD tracks not being remade! Like yeah the tracks were designed with the slippery controls in minds, but i want to play on my Yoshi circuit and DK mountain you know 😅 Plus, the neat changes with the visuals, track changing feature depending on the game and the more tight controls makes the remakes of DD stand out just as much as the originals!! And again, DD is my favorite MK so maybe it’s bias to play the tracks in other games :3

i think that kart customisation could be great again if they make more interesting kart designs, 8 has like 4 vehicles i like BUT tour has many karts i like and think are very cool moral of the story port tours karts in like a coin shop type thing in the next game and also bring back more legacy vehicles i want the shooting star from wii in a game where its not bad

YES!!! Shooting star design is so fire. And I agree with this 100%. Most of the kart designs in 8 are sort of goofy, even the ones that are supposed to be “cool” like the badwagon I still think look kinda dumb…

Thank you for hinting that Waluigi Midball is overrated. As for 'Luigi's Mansion overrated', I agree, but don't mind because it's a beginner course. One that's light on obstacles but full of tight turns so new players can learn to drift effectively for the harder tracks. It's still overrated, but it at least has a purpose.

Waluigi pinball is underrated because so many people have jumped on the bandwagon of saying it’s overrated. Pinball haters need to get a single argument other than “no shortcuts” and then I’ll maybe consider it.

@@kiwikarp9509 Sharp turns with really fun lines, especially with this 8dx having stuff like UMTs which really benefits them. But I guess if you don’t like them that’s fair, you’re right most of the course doesn’t have that much going on apart from the pinballs, which aren’t a huge deal (most mk obstacles aren’t) but they can occasionally get in the way depending on the cycles.

- kalimari desert is meh, even in 8dx - sunshine airport is meh, good theming but the layout brings it down so much - waluigi midba- wait, that is a really cold take - imo moonview is not a good track in this game, and i say this as someone who loves traffic courses, moonview in wii, and shroom ridge in this game - excitebike is, by far, the most boring course in this game. i can still find enjoyment in toad circuit's simple gameplay, but not here - i wish wario's gold mine was a bcp track, not an 8u dlc track - the city track concept is lovely, changing lap gimmick is almost always a positive to all the tracks it is in. the only city track i dislike is london, which goes on for so long; tokyo is not representative enough but being a city track means it has something good going for it - while i don't think it'll happen since bcp is done, i do not see a bcp 2 to be likely, and it's one of tour's gimmicks, i really wish that we could have gotten more tour tracks, and it's also annoying there are only 14 of them (i can't make an all-city vs match!) - the additions of baby rosalina and pink gold peach are odd but i can care less about them; character slots do not exist (except for making character selection a rectangle) - metal mario imo should not be a dropdown for mario, and none of the koopalings should be a dropdown for each other or for bowser jr. i would not mind dry bowser being a dropdown however - i have not played tour post-gacha but fron what i've played before then, it's good and gacha is what mostly kept it down - u rainbow road is more fun to drive on than 3ds rainbow road - t and rt variants should probably not return outside of tour or other score attack games - not a big fan of the bowser's castle theme in general tbh, it's alright but bowser's castles are not automatically a great track for being a bowser's castle - bcp leaks are not a good thing even for the predictions and made things less exciting - i am glad the bcp is not only 48 fan favorites and nothing else. some omissions would be missed but it gave tracks like shroom ridge, dsmc, bc3, and boo lake new life, and tour cities are hit or miss but (except london loop) are still all fun - the mario kart 8 retro prefix should be "u" and anything else will feel off for me
