You could hang your fan vertically on a nail or similar and drill small holes to balance it. The heavy edge will rotate down, that's where material would need to be removed by drilling some holes. I was also thinking you could true it up by spinning it in a hand drill and sanding down the high spots, however you might lose too much in diameter before the out edge was again true. Anyhow nice work, I can't blame you for being excited at the end.
@Mymatevince13 сағат бұрын
Nice idea 👍👍👍
@diegomartinez71809 сағат бұрын
@@Mymatevince Yes, it's a great idea, but, if you make holes on that fan, it might let air pass through and it will not work to push the popcorn out of the tray. If you "shave" material with the drill, without going all the way through, it might just work. You can always use a file to shave it too. Also, another idea, you can go the other way around by adding small pellets to the plastic with your soldering iron, like when you balance your car wheels, you just add weights around the rims.

Vince would you ever consider learning how to use a 3D printer for repairs like this ie making a new fan or something
@harrygood478316 сағат бұрын
The material that the fan was made out of was polycarbonate with a melt tempature of 350oc+, which is why when vince was using the hot air solder at 450oc it didn`t turn the fan into melting mush, and it would have to withstand the heat in that chamber.
@coyle10215 сағат бұрын
@@harrygood4783 in this case I'm sure that it wouldn't be suitable especially at high temps but there's not of other applications he could use a 3d printer to have fun with perhaps making little gears to replace broken ones who knows the sky is the limit
@mrbussey15 сағат бұрын
I think this is the way to go. The fan blows the air up so the heat shouldn't really hang around the fan itself. It looks like a 3D printer nozzle gets between 200-260c depending on the type The thermal fuse would blow by then.
@AlAmantea14 сағат бұрын
The 3 other responses are all wrong. While this does appear to be made from PC, I run PC and PC carbon Fiber in my printer all the time. The nozzle temp limit depends on the printer, as I have one that can reach 370C at the nozzle. Most are around 280C to 300C for a high temp limit, and there are plenty of different filaments that can handle the high temp. I was thinking about asking Vince the same question, since I run a print farm with 11 different printers and varying capabilities. Perhaps he doesn't have access to a machine capable, but there are plenty available at under $1000 US (around 950 Euro, and, yes, I am in the US) and ones capable of printing high temp and engineering filaments can be had for around half that. Personally, I think this would add a whole new dimension to Vince's channel and his repair capabilities, as well as lead to some very intriguing content!

Hi Vince, many of the devices that need lower voltage are using a capacitor that work as a capacitive dropper. It's used to reduce voltage without dissipating significant heat. It is not very efficient, has not galvanic isolation and the output power is limited.

Vince, the yellow cap is the key part. The yellow capacitor alone cannot directly convert AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current); it needs to be used in conjunction with a diode rectifier circuit to effectively smooth out the AC waveform and produce a more stable DC output, essentially acting as a "filter" to remove the ripple from the rectified AC signal. Also, you could easily 3D print a new fan :)

We had something similar to that air popper when I was a kid. It wasn't nearly as noisy as this one and worked a treat. My father refused to buy a microwave when we were growing up as he didn't think they really had any value and would only cook things on the stove, oven, outdoor grill and of course the popper. He actually didn't get a microwave until we moved after he and my mother split up and he rented out a room in his house to supplement his income. I suppose one of his roomates introduced him to the wonders of the microwave.

Air poppers became fashionable in the 1970s. No butter or coconut oil means it tasted bland, but it was considered heart healthy. Now, we realize the war against saturated fat was a huge mistake and the healthiest way to make it is with coconut oil just like the theaters used to.

It appears to use a capacitive dropper as a power supply for the motor. It is much simpler than a switch mode power supply, but it doesn't smooth the dc voltage as well. A motor doesn't need a clean voltage to operate effectively.

You asked how does it drop the mains to 24V? Its a capacitive dropper. The capacitor acts like a resistor to mains (1/2πFC) F is 50 (Hz) and C is printed on it. So essentially its a potential divider, but for AC.

What was my take-away from this repair? That both Vince & Kylie Dailey - Golden Things ROCKS. Life is funny that way. Cheers from across the pond. RE: reheating old kernels. Actually.. i recently eXperimented with preheating my instant popcorn bags in the oven - 150F/10min to see if the MWave does a more complete job of popping (yes, I don't get out much ether). First impressions were that preheating the kernels worked better, at least for the MWave. I'm guessing they don't start off so "dead cold" and are more consistent in their kernel temperatures. But I accidently left a bag pre-heating for 30+ minutes and quickly discovered that the majority didn't "give a pop'. I believe it evaporated the tiny bit of water contained in each kernel which is responsible for becoming steam and, you guessed, popping them. OK.. I'll show myself out now.
