I'm an avid menstrual cup user and have been using one for 5 years, but it 100% was a learning process! My boyfriend had to take my cup out the first times! An angel. Only because I didn't really know my vagina.

I've been using my diva cup for about five years now and I did so much research about how to use it, how to make sure it's not just secure but in the right place. I learnt from KZbin that you need to make sure it's securely placed around your cervix... The instructions at the time didn't say and I just plopped it in there and it did nothing because my cervix was not in the right place. Once I learnt everything I could I went forward with confidence. It works perfectly for me and I'm never going back

My cup and I are bffs by this point. No one knows me better. Tho on a side note, convenience stores in Finland have started to sell one type of cup. There is absolutely no disclaimer that it might not work for every body type. So now more girls seem to be deterred and discouraged because that one cup didn't work. Like the promotion of a sustainable alternative dislike the utter lack of information.

Just a little tip for leakage: I have found out for myself that when the cup is 100% unfolded and open there is not enough vacuum to prevent leakage if you know what I mean. So I just unfold it like "80%" (it still has a little dent in it) and than it's very leaking proof.

I bought a moon cup 7 or 8 years ago and luckily I love it haha! The marketing really got me cause I love the moon :) but I also don't know if there were nearly as many options back then... they definitely were not widely discussed (menstrual cups) and when I first started using them people were like... huh/wtf?!?! I'm so glad it's become so much more mainstream!!! I've honestly never heard anyone else say the moon cup worked for them, I think I got really lucky. But I'm so glad I came across it because that's SO many tampons by now! And I'm still only 30 so it'll be so many more! Edit- I didn't hear you talk about this but a big tip for me eventually was to cut down the "string" part, that does make it more comfy and I would imagine on other cups people do that too? If you feel it pinching or something weird that can definitely help! I still get mine out easily with practice, by pinching the sides and kind of using my muscles to push it out a bit ( I imagine like I'm giving birth to it lol Idk, it's what works for me).

They definitely are something that I've looked into, but with my IUD, I thankfully do not get periods, unless I am wicked wicked stressed out, so no periods for 3 years and counting have been a blessing! Not to mention it's nice to save them money, and to not possibly have any allergic reactions to either the pad, tampon(if my vagina doesn't randomly push it out) that I am using. Toilet paper is even the same battle, I do know that next time around I do want to get the period panties and some reusable pads, because when child number two happens, I want to be a little bit more comfortable for the week of bleeding afterwards, I'm praying that it'll only last a few days to a week like it did after I had my son.

I've had mine for years and I love it. The first few months were tricky, because I didn't realise my canal was angled backwards, so I'd put it in pointing straight up, so the cup didn't point in the direction of flow and I got a lot of leakage. Point being, if you're having troubles, it might not be the shape of the cup or it not unfolding, it might be the angle it's sat at
@jailynvlogs14325 жыл бұрын
I never thought that I'd be able to use a menstrual cup. My canal is small and curved. I can't feel my cervix with my finger, but I have tiny fingers and can't fit more than an inch and a half myself. I finally did some research and found the FemmyCycle Menstrual Cup petite size. It has a ring at the end of it, which makes it easy to pull out, although sometimes it turns sideways and that makes it pretty uncomfortable to get out. I've only filled it once, on the first day of my period where I tend to have a heavy flow, so even though it's small it works pretty well for me. I can't say I love it, but it's no worse than a tampon for me and I'm happy with the performance so far. There are also a lot of different shapes of menstrual cups, not all of them are tulip shaped. There's a flat Ziggy cup that can be used during sex, round cups, collapsible cups, and others I can't remember. Before you buy one read about a lot of them and make sure you read about different types and sizes as well.

Also 'abnormally' heavy periods might be too much for them, as in my case. Was fine with my mooncup then it suddenly stopped. Tried a different size and a different brand and nothing. Fibroids had made my periods hellish and it just wasn't possible. Also, while I was able to use it, I found period pain was made worse when using them - something one other friend also found. But they were hugely freeing when they worked. Last thing: I'm pretty sure the mooncup was the only one you could really find in shops in the UK until recently, so it's not weird that you didn't consider a different one.

I have an IUD so I'm afraid it'll suck it out so I don't use a cup. I use period proof panties at home and when I'm out I've finally found tampons that are in paper and cardboard. Unfortunately if it's really heavy, the only ones I've found that have worked are in plastic and it frustrates me to no end. I use those as little as possible and try to hold off using them until I can't anymore since my periods can be sooo heavy (hello copper IUD). I will keep trying to find something because I dont want to use those if I dont have to. I'm hopeful I will find something. Also if I ever don't have my IUD anymore I'm trying cups for sure! I love the idea of them
@ericag3215 жыл бұрын
I also have a copper IUD and have been using the Saalt menstrual cup for 6 months with no issues. I'm using that cup because it's what fits my body best based off of this quiz: putacupinit.com/quiz/ AND if you are removing the cup properly after it's filled by first squeezing it to release the vacuum seal, there should be no issue of pulling out the IUD. After the vacuum seal is broken it's equivalent to the pressure of pulling out a tampon, which obviously won't pull your IUD out. My gyno suggests to check your cervix to make sure you can still feel your IUD strings during every period (when the cervix lowers and it's easier to reach). This way you can feel even MORE confident your IUD is still there after every period of using a menstrual cup. Lmk if you have any more questions or concerns about the copper IUD or menstrual cups! I am happy to help :-)

Yeah, I had a menstrual cup for about 5 months. At first it was awesome, no pain, only a bit of leakage, but after a few periods it became incredibly painful taking it out. After not being able to take it out for over 2 hours full of crying for various reasons I decided to scratch that and (after finally taking it out) throw it straight to the trash. That really messed my vagina up, it was really painful when touched and even the smallest tampons hurt like hell for about 3-4 periods. It's fine now, but I've been really scared of menstrual cups ever since. I want to try again, but I don't want to go through the fear of having to go to the ER because of it 😅

I love the menstrual cup but I still struggle when putting it in or taking it out. But once it’s in there I can forget about my period for 12 hours. I use the rose bud fold (that’s what I call it) where you push at the edge of the rim inward and it twists so the inserted Tio is the smallest. It helped with the beginning process since the half fold is still too big to put in there for me. I also make sure to wet the rim with warm water. It takes a while to get the hang of but it’s so worth it. Also make sure to boil it for a few min (3-5min) before and after each period cycle

I love my menstrual cup! But I had problems in the beginning as well, had to stick through the first 3-4 Periods till I figured out how to really get it out. Always! ALWAYS!! make sure to losen the cup of its vacuum first and then try to carefully pull it out. Now that I have it so long I sometimes forget that I am on my period because the is no leaking and no pain. The only problem (not really a problem) is that my period has stained my cup a dark red color eventhough the cup was purple when I bought it and I always cleaned it properly . I have been using it for almost 3.5 Years now so it doesn't really bother me.
@academievoortarot5 жыл бұрын
Somehow... whatever folding method I use, I don't get the menstrual cup to "pop" open again once it's in... it stays folded inside me -.- at some point it even like twisted sideways which was very unpleasant... this way it's never gonna work of course... I did do some research to figure out what size I should buy before I bought this cup... I'm unsure whether trying a different brand would work for me or cups just aren't for me but I'm reluctant to spend more money on something I've already lost faith in... :(

If you're consistently getting leakage you may need a larger cup. Not capacity-wise, but in terms of girth/circumference. The larger ones are touted as being for women who've had a baby or over the age of 30 but as you say people are different so maybe you need a bigger one? I've had my Mooncup since 2012 and never had any leaks. Ever. Different strokes for different folks!

(This comment is a little detailed!) Really great video. I desperately want to use menstrual cups - it seems like a miracle product too good to be true, and it could do wonders for me, my period, and my wallet. I didn't think, however, that it just may not work for some people's bodies. I'm a very petite girl, and I already have problems trying to get used to tampons (I'm more used to pads so putting anything up there will kind of hurt), so I'm a little concerned over the results I may get from using something that looks as big and intimidating as a menstrual cup. I'm still going to try it, as I see no harm in doing so, especially if it'll really benefit my period days. Nonetheless, I'm really glad you mentioned other options, as I feel horrible whenever I use and throw out so many disposable pads and was hoping for a better option for the environment. I'm glad to know I can try other options in case the cup doesn't work out as well as I'd hoped. Thank you for the helpful and thoughtful video. Oh quick question for anyone who may view this comment: What would be a good cup to start out with or one better suited for smaller canals and cervix's? I've seen so many different types of cups and I just don't really know what I should try going with.

I have the Lunette (smaller size). I have been using it a year now. The only minor issue I had last year was the length of the stem poking out (!) but only when I was doing exercise - stretching my legs a lot. Put A Cup In It is a real useful website (also with a yt channel) bc they give a table of all the different types - softer silicone, more firm silicone, longer, shorter, rounder, etc. Sidenote about tampons, I absolutely hated the dry feeling, but with the cup you can run it under the tap, or put it in/out in the shower to begin to give a little less friction!

I did research before to buy it, after I came in Pharmacy and I found only 2 types of cups: the first size 2 for women already pregnancy (women who have already had one pregnancy) and the second smaller size but in a double package for only 30€. what better deal! I practiced during the two days off at home, then at work disaster. The Enlightenment Leaf was that I had to change it every 5-6 hours, so it was very difficult to change it at work. The sink isn’t in the toilet, it’s outside, so I had to wait until there was no one there to come out and wash it and put it back on. other thing, the toilet was too small. Once it fell in the toilet so no more disinfected! The second problem was that from the third month, I start to put it always bad, it didn’t open properly so I always got dirty to wash at least 2 slip for day, I started to put panty liners, but for what purpose if I wanted to pollute less? I was frustrated and I didn’t understand why I arrived no more to do like the beginning! I read that a cup could resist until 12 hours, I tried to do the same with my periods and I discovered that it is ok with it and it’s not full until the limits so I resolve the problem to change it when I’m at work. Today for each period I continue to put it and sometimes it’s ok and sometimes not. I do a physical work, I move all day so sometimes I’m alerted when I do something because I’m afraid to dirty me, but other times I’m happy because I do a favor to the Planet, I can go to the beach with any problem and I change me less times for day like before. I didn’t understand if the problem is the resistance, maybe I need one more “elastic” when times will come to change it. If you are not in your home all day, you have to program how much time you stay out home and the possibilities to change it if you take all of time outside. Another last advise: TAKE YOUR TIME TO CHANGE IT, so not this when you have to hurry up to take bus for work or when your lunch time is already finished XD because at 98% I will put it in the worst way 😬

Found one for 10€ in Berlin. Luckily it is perfect for me and it was a win at first try. Just had some difficulty taking it out because it got far away and I couldn’t reach it. I just contracted my muscles and the cup slide enough for me to get a hold of it. I made a mess when pinching it to get it out but nothing terrible. And it was the first try so I’ m sure it will get better. Lubricant can definitely help you get it in though. Just take a breath, relax and all will be good.

I finally bought my first cup I bought the flex cup. And yeah it's hard getting use to the change from tampons. I keep pulling out because I'm scared I'm going to leak everywhere. Hopefully it gets better

I tried a cup about 3/4 years ago and it just wasn’t for me. I now use a mixture of reusable pads and a menstrual sponge which has been a GOD SEND 🙌🏼

What's a menstrual sponge?
@jessicaarmstrong66645 жыл бұрын
Weronika Sobczak literally exactly what it sounds like. It’s a sponge (which has been sanitised and everything, that you pop up there and it collects your blood.

I'd really love some recommendations for reusable period knickers/underwear that you can get in the UK? There's just so many to choose from 😐

I have bought an organicup, but yet haven't use it, because I am scared to use it. I tried to use it but could not push it up. Don't know how to overcome it.

Maybe it helps to try it while your not on your period, because your not that stressed 😊

I can tell you the only thing that works for me: bend it into the “C” shape. I position it with the opening of C toward my back and wiggle it up using my finger to ensure it pops open. To remove, i open my legs while sitting on the toilet as wide as possible and bear down while pushing my fingers up and grasping the bottom of cup and wiggle it down. Hope this helps. Literally no other way works for me.

Putting in while in the shower helped me. Alternatively if you put a little lubricant on the rim, it makes inserting it a whole lot easier!!! Also look at the different folds. It made a massive difference for me when I found the one that worked with my body...
@lifemyway2005 жыл бұрын
P. Lopez the problem there is that 95% of the time I wouldn’t be in the shower when I need to empty it or even put it in for the first time. How do you manage that? Im honestly curious.
@PLopez-bs5xs5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, I don't always have the shower... But it certainly helped loads at the beginning... And tbh, if I'm at home I'll still have a super quick shower both morning and evening during my period as makes me feel better and makes putting the cup in easier. Nowadays though, I'll change at the public toilets at work if needed no problem, but it took a while to get there... (granted, this is not common, as luckily I'm able to usually leave the cup in for 12 hours)

I've been using mine for 3 years now but I still get leaking at night or if i'm lying down for a while. Something about lying/rolling just breaks the suction so I invested in some thinx for nighttime. Anyone else had this and got another solution?

I've had a few bad experiences with my menstrual cup, mostly involving pain while taking it off. now I'm terrified of using it. I also don't get how do you change it in public bathrooms lol I always end up panicking
@lsidjhgoshg5 жыл бұрын
I can only use mine on light days, otherwise they make my cramps 4 times worse. The cup itself is not painful to wear. Anyone else has this effect? Also, how do you wash yours? Do you disinfect it in a particular way?

I wet mine with warm water before inserting and that makes it easier I think. Also fold it twice and then it's not so big anymore ;)

Top tip: do it in the shower (mornings/evenings), makes it far easier and you don't need to think about the mess so much ;)
