nice! medals are some of my favorites. and you dont have to apologize for taking family time, thats what its all about! the second american campaign medal and possibly the national defense medal are more modern versions of the awards. you can tell by the "frosted" appearance. in the case of the ww2 medal it would be something a vet wouldve gotten to replace a missing one or one they never received. i dont know if you noticed the 2 different kind of mountings on youres (known as a broach). the earliest kind is known as a "slot broach" where the ribbon is secured by passing through a slot and then stitched. you can spot them from the front by 2 stitches of thread on either side holding the ribbon to the bottom corners of the broach. they were used from sometime in the late 1930s until 1944 when the second type was adopted. the 2nd type is known as a "crimp broach" where the ribbon is crimped between the 2 pieces of metal, it was adopted in late 44 and, as far as i know, is still used today. there are 2 other earlier types known as a "wrap broach" and a "split wrap broach". im not sure exactly how to describe them. also the purple heart wasnt re adopted (it was established during the revolutionary war by washington) until 1932. however anyone having received a wound stripe during or after ww1 was retroactively awarded one.

Very funny how the Army awards its soldiers. I have a total of 13 ribbons awarded to me. I only have 4 medals awarded to me with the certificates and orders. The rest were just orders even during our award ceremonies. I have orders on 2 campaign medals like the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Panama and the Iraq Campaign Medal, but no medals. The only 2 awards that I am really proud of is 2 skills badges. The first I ever got was my Army Basic Parachutist Badge a.k.a. Jump Wings and my Combat Infantryman's Badge. If I wanted all my medals that I have orders for, I would have to buy them at Clothing Sales at the PX if I was issued Army Dress Blues. Or through our unit supply which will take forever to get. The Army since when I was in found it easy to award you with paperwork and hand you a ribbon. The 4 medals I got was the Army Achievement Award, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct, and an Air force Achievement Medal from the Air Force. But I place value of my Combat Infantry Badge and my Jump Wings.

Hey, I found this guy on offer up, he sells military medals and awards from WW2 and Vietnam, to modern times. He sells Polish, German, Soviet, and American medals, just look up military medals on OfferUp and scroll down a while and you’ll find him, just trying to help you collect, and I’m starting a collection of my own Polish ones.

Why would you want something you didn't earn?
@15audi123 жыл бұрын
Historical value plus they are cool to own. It’s not like he is claiming he earned them. They make for great display pieces. I especially like the bronze star. My grandfather earned one of those in World War Two.

What do you have to do to get awarded 2 Silver Stars?
@JonBoyMilitaria7 жыл бұрын
The silver star was awarded for gallantry in action, usually over a short period of time, like a 2 or 3 day battle, etc... Its interesting that a person could be awarded it twice. You would think that after they were awarded in once, then the next decoration for bravery and gallantry would be the Distinguished Service Cross. I'm not sure exactly how someone could be awarded it twice. Unless maybe they got it the first time and then switched units, companies, battalions, etc and then performed a heroic act and then was awarded it again...
@351WINCHESTER7 жыл бұрын
Maybe his first one was during the Mexican Campaign prior to WWI.
@JonBoyMilitaria7 жыл бұрын
Could have been.
@351WINCHESTER7 жыл бұрын
I was wrong. The Silver Star was born around 1918 before the Mexican Campaign. Oh well.

@zach38767 жыл бұрын
Just because someone has U.S. Army medals and is collecting them, dosen't mean that it is stolen valor. EDIT: Unless he buys an ASU (Army. Service. Uniform.) And throws a bunch of them medals, qualifications badges, expert infantry badges, etc...on the uniform and walks around asking for soldier discounts and saying he were in the service but really wasn't. That is stolen valor.
@JonBoyMilitaria7 жыл бұрын
NightBot You are right Nightbot. There is nothing wrong with collecting. But the ones who parade around with them on pretending to be soldiers. Now that is stolen valor.
@danvanhoose67836 жыл бұрын
I can't believe that you have these.you have no right to these medals.its stolen valor.don't dare wear them!
@JonBoyMilitaria6 жыл бұрын
Dan Van Hoose You need to chill dude. This is not stolen valor. It's only stolen valor if I was to wear them out pretending to be a soldier. Which I don't do.
@douglewis57015 жыл бұрын
Perfectly said. Hes right dan van hoose. Its only stolen valor if he were to wear them and go around claiming hes earned them and receive monetary benefits like discounts and all that so before you accuse someone of stolen valor ask them why do they have the medals in the first place. I have a full size p.h. medal and i carry it around with me every fucking day and if someone tells me that im not allowed to have it i tell them to fuck off, that i have a family member that earned it and i walk away. So fuck off you dumb uneducated fuckwad
