Your "shelf of shame" makes me think of my Steam library! I've got a bunch of Cephalyx to finish painting, plus just got more Protectorate of Menoth and a lonely squad of Widowmaker Scouts for my under-fed Khador battlegroup. Oh, and Aristeia! minis.

I have a shelf of shame reserved specifically for MDF terrain. The rest of my back burner projects take up the better part of 4 shelving units. Currently pulled out my Horus Heresy Space wolves to work on but I have a proposition. You get your Orlocks done by the Michigan GT and I'll get one of my several necromunda gangs finished from my shelf of shame and we have a underhive battle!

I retired from the navy and have 20+ years of unpainted miniatures. I have stuff from the 80s that shames me. But now I have free time. Remember it's a hobby, have fun.

I'm in the same boat as a Navy retiree :) Most of my stuff from teh 80's is gone, sadly.

That's a lot of nice stuff! A lot of my shelf of shame is made up of things I like but no-one around here plays or conversions that I have not done yet. I'm painting up my Necromunda gangs (I was glad to see that the Van Saar box includes women gang members and I asked Andy Hoare about female Goliaths and Orlocks, he says they are coming!) also my Dark Eldar and Craftworld forces are half grey plastic but at least they are built! I also have a few boxes of shame that look like they belong in a hoarders house as it's all materials I am convinced I can use to build cool Necromunda terrain...

Working on Dungeon Saga right now, I have all main set with 2x the Baddys, Still have its expansions to go, and just ordered the VanSarr for necromunda and still have the other 3 to go, but have been working on terrain first on that, Shelf of Shame that's been sitting is my KS Arcadia Quest (Everything)

I think most of us can sympathise, and I made my New Years resolution to get 1 unit/character/vehicle done per month. I'm currently behind by 1 month, so need to get 2 done in April, but if I can manage my goal, I'll have about 10 more units done in 2018 than I managed in 2017. I think having large gaps between projects is what puts me off (lack of practice basically) and so I worry about 'matching' my paint jobs across my armies (I'm mostly a GW painter). That said, I've found painting individual D&D miniature great practice as making a mess of one mini doesn't bother me as much as it does when it's supposed to be part of a matched army. This us actually what helped me warm up before tackling the Guilliman model I tweeted to you earlier in the week. On a side note, I've been taking in board what you've said with regard to ethnic skin tones, and whilst I find it daunting, I think my D&D models would be perfect for introducing more diversity to my model shelf.

That's a healthy way to approach this though - measurable, managable goals. And YESSS! Let me know how you like that paint for the darker skin tones!

Thanks for the video. My own shelf of shame got out of hand because I took on evening classes to change my career so my painting slowed down, but my buying kept up at the same pace... My solution (which has been working) has been to only allow myself to buy ONE miniature when I have painted TWO... so I’m still able to buy new and exciting things but I have to reduce my shelf of shame to do it...

I have a similar shelf of shame and it totures me. I have to paint a lot of Batman Miniature Game, and a huge amount of Blood Angels and Death Guard to build, base and paint. I also have boxes of Flames of War and Victrix miniatures that I need to build and base. I made a "painting calendar" to stay organized and...Iit didn't work. I have to pump up my productivity and consume less! As for you, painting Batman Miniatures is a delight. A good place to start!

You've got a lot of really cool stuff there! I don't consider my mass of unbuilt models as a shelf of shame. More a stash of awesome... That said I can be kind of slack with painting, I committed to getting one thing a month done (I'm slow and also make videos which makes painting take longer) "forcing" myself to get at least one thing done per month has been helpful. I'm working on a bunch of bolt action stuff. Mostly tanks, but some shooty men too.

My shelf of shame is kind of small since I just got into the hobby this year but I have the better part of the Age of Sigmar starter set not done as well as a about 10 blood angels to paint. I have one cryx model left to paint up and a few trollblood units.

I wrote a boxload of articles on Test of Honour, i haven't played Bushido to give a reference between the two. It's a very cinematic feeling fast skirmish game.

Paint what makes you happy. As hobbyists, we are always going to have more to be painted. We are always going to buying more. At the moment, I have Grymkin, Cryx, and Cygnar I would like to paint, not to mention my own Borka bust. I know I can only paint so much though, and I take it a miniature (or two) at a time.

yeah it looks pretty intimidating, best thing to do is exactly the opposite of what you just did, by that I mean don't put them all together into one big intimidating pile and look at them and think 'how the hell ?' I tried to stop purchasing as many as I did, and when I did I would only buy the next batch when the first batch was painted, which almost forced me to get the last batch done because i was so excited to get the next lot bought. I still have hundreds of unpainted minis though but at least now I'm painting more than I buy so I know I'll get there sooner or later. It must be way worse for you of course because of the nature of what you do, you could always and a load to me and let me get at them.. lol.
