I've seen a lot of these hut style tutorials. Yours is by far the easiest with great results. Well done!

You might also consider adding the foam core doors at the end of the project and painting them a quick gunmetal so it give you a little contrast to the desert color.

Those look great! Thanks for sharing your texture techniques.

Thanks for the idea! I used plastic balls for my domes, so I was able to use textured spray paint on the whole building. Then I came back and dry brushed the texture so it would be more uniform in color (and realistic). With the varieties of textured paints available, I was able to make more concrete-like structures for non-desert planets.

Those look nice. When making the trapezoids you could be more efficient and nee less cutting if you alternate them so every second one is upside down.

Great video Teri,I really like how fast and simple this is. This summer I'm running and modern war campaign at my local game store,and these buildings will help so much. Thank you so much 😊

Hey Teri, for VEDA at some point, you should totally do a terrain tutorial on how to make forests! That would be so helpful
@thatterigirl6 жыл бұрын
I've waffled back and forth on forests mostly because forests are one of those things you can buy trees for at the hobby store, but at the same time, having special matching trees can be hard to get.

Those look great! I'll have to use that technique for 3.75 scale huts.

Hey Teri! Great video! I was wondering if you had thought of combining multiple gift boxes to make larger buildings, like I’m wanting to make a cantina. Any advice?
@thatterigirl6 жыл бұрын
Get bigger boxes. I used smaller styrofoam balls, but they sell them as big as 8" in diameter at the craft store. You can definately scale this one up.

Is there any way to make styrofoam more durable.
@thatterigirl6 жыл бұрын
I use Golden's pumice gels generally for bases but considering the price of artist products vs. sand, the outright expense is a lot higher which is why I chose not to use it. But if you have it, use it!
@thatterigirl6 жыл бұрын
De Bad Wolf the multiple coats of glue wash combined with the tissue paper layer creates a hardened layer that protects the styrofoam rather well, actually. You could thicken up the tissue paper glue layer actually but even a thin layer is like paper mache in strength.

That course pumice gel looks like it would be great for basing a mini. But yah the coast would be counter productive to making a cheap terrain. I come across a lot of square peaces of foam from work for new fridge packaging. 2 peaces gives you a quick nice size building. Issue is its 1/4 inch thick in some spots. And would just like to strengthen it. I have some plasti dip left over from some other projects. Going to throw a few coats of that on it and see what happens.

Elmer glue, paint, mod pod. If I doubt and a second or third coat. I've got styrofoam wall that have held up nicely.
