The Challenger is about to under go a few upgrades and fixes that will make her such a beast of a rig. To be honest, this has just made my night. The reason we make these videos is to show you dont need the big guns to get out and enjoy the outdoors. You dont need to spend a fortune to get out there and hit the tracks. Legend and thankyou for the comment. Cheers Dave

How do you find the Challenger compared to the Pajero for daily driving and offroad? Would you recommend one over the other?
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
Rawiri would be best for that, I will just add that a NL Pajero has a 3.5ltr (6G74) engine. The Challenger has a 3ltr (6G72) engine, they are extremely similar, they share the same suspension, almost the exact same chassis. The pajero is heavier and is more top heavy. It would ultimately come down to personal preference but in saying that. If you can, drive both vehicles, capability is extremely similar though the challenger is lighter and smaller so easier to wheel, less chance of getting bogged down. Cheers Dave

Nice vid and nice car. I was looking forward for a walk around of your Challenger. One thing you said stopped me to buy bigger tyres. That the max legal size is 275x75xR16. If we would be too exact, they would be 1mm to big :D. After your video I was digging into Australian laws and I think in all states a total lift of the car of 50mm is the maximum you are allowed to do without consulting an engineer. So 2inch suspension and bigger tyres are illegal in SA, WA, VIC and NSW, the rest I don't know.

Hi there, Cheers, been trying to get more completed. Steering does go tight when loaded up, but can be easily released by doing a few things. You pretty much learn to wheel and adapt to the vehicle. Awesome. How much of a lift do you have on it? Do the lockers play a big part of getting through rutted tracks & steps that you do?
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rick, Lift is about 2inches as I said in the video. Hard to exactly say as the Challenger was poorly lifted when I bought her, so getting a correct amount is hard, the rear coils are 50mm lifted pajero coils which are also constant load. The front is adjusted to suit. I have actually dropped the front to all my travel. Lockers play a MASSIVE advantage on the rutts. We can crawl through sections without a chance of spinning a tyre.

That is a very long answer to give. But you can get MK, MJ triton manual locking hubs, do not buy ebay specials, they are not strong enough. To do it properly, you need to remove the whole vacuum system, making a custom bracket to retract the pin in the front diff.

Hey Dave, if you had so much stuff from the pajero installed, why not go with a gen2 pajero? I'm considering one of this challengers, but really would like to have your opinion on the subject.
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ricardo, many different answers to the question. But easiest way to put it. You have a big difference in size, weight, and age. This is a 2001 Challenger, I didnt want a 90s Pajero unless it was the NL and even then I dont like the size. Price came into it, The challenger was cheaper when I first picked it up. The build has happen over 6years now adding pieces to it and only things that a are Pajero are the coils and diffs. I could have used 4.9 ratio diffs from a MK Triton, But I want a wagon, not a ute. As I stated, The pros getting a Challenger out weighed getting a pajero of similar age, thousands of times over. Getting a Pajero with these diffs are extremely rare so they played into it. Remember 6year build is different from buying a built vehicle or a factory vehicle. My Challenger is nothing like a stock Challenger as well.

Hey Steve, The reliability of the Challenger is great. To be honest, I bought it with my oil on the outside of the engine than in it. Literally we had to go buy oil just to get it home. Looked after, they will last forever. It has never ever let me down. Even driving home with one wheel drive it still did not stop. If you are looking at one, be expected to change bushes, belts and rocker cover gaskets and cam seals. Time belt is the biggest thing that get neglected and if you find one that has had the timing belt done, make sure they changed the front crank bolt over from the original. Easy to tell, the original sticks out from the harmonic balancer.

All depends on whether you will do the work yourself. If you get someone to do it then I wouldnt have a clue on price as different mechanics and fitters charge different rates depending on location. These black rims cost $95 each, bullbar costs $1590 and lift kit is around $1500, I don't buy kits for suspension but all my gear is now toughdog. If you jump on their website they have the price. As I said, a lot of factors effect rough pricing, but hopefully above gives you a figure. My website has a break down of bullbars available in australia and the links to find them. What exhaust system have u got mate
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad Жыл бұрын
I have a custom built exhaust that was made specifically so i do not damage it while on the harder tracks. Due to running a spare tyre under the back we could tuck it up further.

Is this car good for towing horse floats ?
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad 2 ай бұрын
I have seen them tow, floats and camper trailers, but with the standard 3ltr engine, I would say that they would be gutless. and the rear suspension would need heavy springs, and I mean heavy.

You reckon this is a good daily + 4wd for a first timer,?
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad 3 жыл бұрын
I have used this as a daily for the last 5 years. I dont run the muddies on the road anymore. As a daily they are awesome, but dont expect lancer fuel consumption, it is a 4wd. But they are comfortable and can be used easily in traffic. For a first time or a veteran, they are awesome for offroad fun. They make you learn how to under stand the car. What it is doing and what it is going to do. Cheers Dave

Hey Hayden, I ran them aft to the rear door and through the rubber wiring gasket. My 2nd battery is in the boot.

@@DestinationOffroad Thanks heaps for getting back so quickly mate! I've got a 2010 Challenger and got a solar panel so been trying to figure out a way to do it without drilling holes in the body
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad 2 жыл бұрын
@@HaydenWilsonOutdoors yeah I have not needed to drill holes in the body and strongly advise not to. If both batteries are in the end bay, I would either run them near the snorkel and to the engine bay, or the most painful version would be to route the same way I have and through the cabin, firewall to battery.

@@DestinationOffroad can you take pictures of the code of the transmision, I have a montero (challenger) but it is an automatic transmision.. I been searching for a automatic to manual transmision swap, but i can find any article related to this mod could you heap me with the transmision series ?
@DestinationOffroad
@DestinationOffroad Жыл бұрын
@@smokingfish504 I don't not understand what you mean in regards to codes? I do know the transfer case lever is on the other side and a few differences, you also need to change the ECU. It is cheaper to just buy a manual Challenger then doing the conversion.
