Actually, it's NOT still "literally a child." Childhood ends at puberty, according to people who actually work in the field of development. Once you've gone through puberty, you are not a child. You may still be a minor, and there are certain things that teens are not ready for, but a 17 year old is not a child. It's like you think a button gets pressed at 18, and magically, they are a mature adult. It's gradual process, and acting like a 17 year old is the same as a 10 year old does a disservice to both children and teens.

They problem is that we live in an age where everyone judges everyone no matter what. Each state has different ages of consent and no one is looking at it from that point of view. While I would NOT be OK with my child being with someone that much older than them if it's not breaking the law there's nothing we can really say, unfortunately. I agree that different people mature at different times so what's good for one person is not going to be good for another. My husband and I beat the odds because we were married at 16 & 18 and not because I was pregnant but because we love each other. We haven't always had the "perfect" marriage but we stuck it out and it made our love stronger in the long run.
