Jokes aside, it's sort of psychology when you think about it. It's a way for Trevor to heal from trauma, and for people to laugh the situation through. Laughter can come from common ground, hence having truth behind a joke makes it way funnier. For the audience to laugh is also a positive way for both Trevor and them to form a communication and to move on in life. Oh but jokes on me. I ain't no psychologist. lol.

This is a fine example of how you can control the crowd based on how you explain the story. In Trevor's book "born a crime", when he's talking about this scenario, it's with a much more serious tone with his soft voice (Audiobook) outlining the fear and uncertainty of the situation and it was honestly quite emotional. I recommend his book to anyone, it was super well done

Another friend was required to give the first $200 of his paycheck to his parents to help out with food. Like wtf?? I could definitely understand with a big purchase like a car, or their cheerleading dues or something. Or anything over the age of 18. But at 17? (Although she got married to my dad when I was 7, funily enough they divorced when I turned 14) Once, she told me she wished I wasn't born. It took my whole being not to retort "Bitch, me too." Bc, I'm not suicidal. She'd fucking beat my ass blue. And the reason for the fight that garnered her words? I didn't want us to move to her boyfriend's house. I hated the idea and knew their unhealthy on/off relationship was gonna make everthing go up in flames. (It did. It was awkward to move every 3 months between her bf's house and my dad's. Everyone was fed up. Now I don't talk to my dad anymore) I was right, and now I spend my days making accusations that she always makes bad decisions and never takes my advice, when she takes her friends' advices despite them basically telling her what I said. My mother is really gullible and obtuse. She uses a dumb excuse like "He was a trickster" and gives me advice for the future like I'm some blind and deaf child. I knew he was lying from the beginning how the hell are you surprised? Now she talks my ear off about how I have to not fall for sweet words and that I need to be independent. I keep thinking "Hello! I am not you!" So yeah, I don't like my family. And her other offspring doesn't make it any better. (The little gremlin) But at this point suicide is just stupid. I'm already so old and resources have been put into my growth. The hell am I gonna waste shit that coulda been spent better if I was aborted from the beginning! That's just stupid! Like wasting ingredients, just to burn good food!

In this show, Trevor changes the story quite a lot. In his book, Born A Crime, he says that his brother Andrew called and told him about his mother being shot. His brother Andrew then later explains that as soon as his mother had been shot, he’d taken control of the steering wheel and drove his mother straight to the hospital. Andrew had completely forgotten about his little brother Isaac and had drove off to the hospital. Abel who was Trevor’s stepfather who had shot Patricia, took Isaac to one of his close friends and soon went off to kill himself. Before this, he had had a day of farewell where his cousin told him to man up and to turn himself in to the police rather than escaping the consequences by means of killing himself. So Abel turns himself in and is soon let out with attempted murder on his criminal records…
