@@kdeloris2225I know dude, I'm still struggling to get my life together 6 years after being taken for a ride from my ex who destroyed my credit. at least I was diagnosed with others and after everything ended, lol because it opened my eyes to the fact that I'm likely to be manipulated by people since I couldn't believe somebody would just use me for a place to stay in for lines of credit and stuff, I would never do anything like that without actually paying them back! so basically I spent my entire life savings on my daughter's dad trying to help him with his drug addictions cuz I was letting him use my car so he could get back and forth to work, paying for his food and medical and all this stuff that he refused to get taken care of through social services, I just recently found out that the guy was on fentanyl almost the entire time! I feel so stupid because I was accusing him of having a meth addiction! I work as a substance use disorder therapist, at least I was doing that and I was a program manager at a hospital for 10 years before that guy ruined my life. now I'm making less money than I made in my 20s and I'm 43 years old living in one of the most expensive cities - Seattle. My car got totaled and my dad has cancer and it's just like a whole bunch of real life problems going on, I owe $1,500 right now on my car payment otherwise they're going to repossess it in less than 2 weeks and I'm really scared. I have no friends or family to help, and my credit is completely destroyed. I wasn't raised to know anything about things like APR credit or anything so I really got taken for a ride once I hit 21. The fact that I had grew up around gang members and druggies didn't make things easier for me to make good decisions once I got away from that lifestyle in my late teens.

This is Nate. I want you all to know that my mother was, in fact, a very BOOK smart and accomplished person with a Masters degree and a 4.0 gpa. You also know book smarts and STREET smarts are very different things. I also notice she does not have the hard drive like memory that she used to. I spent 11 years as a Sheriff's Deputy. I learned sometimes you just have to meet people where they are at to help them solve problems, instead of where you would like them to be. What I want people to see is how, through the grooming process, they get their hooks in so deep that it's akin to cult like brainwashing. The scammers themselves, in the messages I read, seemed to be very lacking on the IQ scale, but their playbook (grooming process) is solid.
@brothaman1312
@brothaman1312 Жыл бұрын
my mother has a master's degree as well, two in fact - but she's not a genius, and she is **not** high iq; although she's not susceptible to scams (to my knowledge, at least), i can admit to myself that she has her intellectual blind spots - she isn't nearly as intelligent as i believed her to be as a child. if these scammers are able to convince your mother that a billionaire and an accomplished general need gift cards... well, it may be time for a reality check.

I was married for almost 31 years to a man who was retired Navy. BELIEVE ME, the military does not leave their guys stranded in some foreign country with no way to get home! It's too bad that so many women believe that men in the military are not receiving necessary medical treatment or even food because Uncle Sam just leaves them in some other land to rot. THAT IS NOT TRUE. As just the widow of a man who retired about 50 years ago and who has been deceased for over 15 years, EVEN I am VERY well taken care of. Romance scammers are the lowest of the low because they know that a kindhearted but naive woman cannot stand the thought of some poor guy "stuck" in some far-off land with no way to get home and without even having enough food to eat. THEY ARE LIARS!!!! They are looking for a way to separate you from your money! Refuse to send them money and see how long they remain your "soulmate". These scammers totally disgust me!

I’m seeing a pattern for people that were romance scammed. 1. They have a false view of themselves and their physical attractiveness. 2. They actually think that a general/ rock Star/actor or model that has their pick of young people would choose them. 3. They think that a celebrity or general would just randomly contact them on the internet. 4. They think they are highly Intelligent and would not be foolish enough to be a victim of a scam. 5. They don’t actually want to know the truth and are willing to pay scammers money to keep the fantasy alive. It seems like an epidemic of lonely people willing to pay someone for a false sense of belonging in a relationship. It’s a sad testament to the state of mental health in this country.

Agree. One thing I noticed is many of these victims have been through trauma in relationships, and they really think their life is over. They seem to be older and have the belief they are on the scrap heap. So when someone fun & good looking comes calling, they have feelings they thought they'd never feel again and that's intoxicating. Another bite of the cherry. I think deep down they all know it's not real, but as long as they can lie to themselves they don't care. They might even enjoy feeling like a sugar mommy or daddy, again lying to themselves but suddenly they feel powerful whereas before they were not. One elderly lady said she was addicted to the (simple, "caring") messages, she knew. She just loved the attention. I feel sad so many elderly people aren't enjoying their lives and are suffering with extreme loneliness.

She very likely has some form of dementia type mental decline that’s kicked in. I hope her son realizes that even going through all this and showing his mom repeatedly that she’s being scammed, she is not capable of being allowed to have free access to money or make decisions for herself. He needs to use all this evidence he’s gathered and statements from the rest of his family to get a POA. Ppl like her are a prime example of those who really do need to be in a conservatorship for their own safety. She’s only going to continue her mental decline. Sadly a lot of ppl have the mindset that no matter what elderly ppl shouldn’t have their ‘independence’ taken away cuz it’s considered cruel. It really isn’t tho. It’s a kindness. Same for when elderly are too incapacitated to safely drive, but would rather put themselves and others at risk than admit their limitations.

Frontal lobe dementia will show signs of Parkinsonism, as well as inappropriate sexuality and aggression in mid to later stages. If the son has a degree in Criminal Justice, he would be aware of Elder Abuse, and he would know about financial exploitation and dementia. He would be getting her in for testing, and if she tested positive for dementia, he could have her declared incompetent by a judge, and take over as financial POA. It's expensive and time consuming, but if she truly has the onset of dementia, then that would be in her best interest. However, she seems to be of sound mind, but poor judgement. Literally yes lol. Dementia and mental decline in general is very common past the age of 65/70. One way to combat that is to stay active both physically and mentally. Ppl who continue to work into their elderly years keep their neurons firing. Including if someone has Alzheimer’s or other serious mental decline, our brains if kept active and challenged will keep creating new neural pathways around the damaged areas. Caffeine has also been shown to help with that. This lady for sure has mental decline tho, and the best thing her son can do is get a POA to have full control over her finances. I’ve worked in the medical field for over a decade, including many geriatric patients. The memory care units are the saddest cuz they often aren’t capable of understanding why they can’t just do whatever they want.

@@Arkengel that is very interesting. Gay men obsessed about their looks. They dread the day they will no longer be attractive and why so many of them look so much more well put together than their straight counterparts of the same age.

I think she’s enjoying the attention of being a worry to her family. It confirms they care for her. She probably hopes they ask her to live with them to keep a better eye on her. There is no way she isn’t aware these are scams.

"I'm an intelligent person" "I don't look my age" they always say the same things, these ones who get scammed. Their ego seems to be their downfall. Having said that, I'm an intelligent person and I don't look my age, but I'm certain this will never happen to me. I'm way too stingy to be giving out money to random people online, are you mad? 😅 I'll lend me mates the odd 20 quid but no chance I'm giving some dude money for flattering me. I'm 36 and even at my age I know men with money aren't gonna be falling over themselves to date me, so in my 70s I'll definitely not be thinking a younger rich man is interested.

That is the 'intelligent person' part of these people doing their thinking. A truly intelligent person knows that they are not that intelligent and will be more aware and humble about it. I've had a top-notch education, am extremely skeptical, analyze everything, know what is going on around the world, and keep up with technology. The older I get, the more I realize how little we all know.

@@elipotter369 It's hard to fully grasp how others perceive our looks but a good rule of thumb is that if you don't get hit on or checked out regularly in public then you're not that great looking. And if you can't attract a gorgeous young man or woman in person then you're not attracting them online.

@@nickimillennium, of course you are correct and that's a great observation. But women like her will never get the logic of your comment. She's a narcissist.

I'm 70 and often told I don't look my age which, I think is a ridiculous thing to say. Because I definitely do look my age and I'm proud of it. My late husband didn't make it to 51. And here I am, still going strong. There's no way I would send money to an internet "boyfriend." But then I'm perfectly content with my life and not looking for anybody but even so, I would never part with my cash.
