as a heterosexual female who identifies with my given name and gender, transitioning, transgender, non binary and all of that is extremely difficult for me to understand. but what i do understand is that love is love and it warmed my heart to see two people with such different beliefs prove that love is more important than our differences. we don't have to always understand each other, just love and respect each other. also, to the incredibly brave person who made this video, im so lucky to be able to hear your story and proud of you for making the choice that was right for you. you are brave and strong and beautiful and wise and compassionate and i appreciate all of that so much

As a trans person myself, I watch these videos to try to understand what others have gone through as I'm going through my transition. I also look through the comments for wonderful people like you. I tend to look for support because I can't technically get a lot where I am now, and half the time I just end up crying because people who don't understand tend to become rude towards others. You my dear are just an amazing woman for supporting people that you don't technically understand. Thank you, it's what I needed

My boyfriends trans and he’s only 14, it’s hard as he still has a female body, so kids and adults can miss gender him a lot, his parents have lovingly started calling him by his preferred name “Toby” but as expected some call him by his birth name, for all you trans/non-binary etc people stay strong and you’ll get through it! No matter how hard it could be! I love you all please stay strong and keep up hope😊💙💖

I still think that it's just ridiculous that if Branson were to show their chest before surgery, it would be censored because "Ooooh, female nipple", but after surgery, now that the body looks classically male, it's fine. Intelligence? The ability to acquire and apply knowledge doesn’t even come into the equation. Maybe the word you’re looking for is understanding? Understanding of your child’s decisions is one thing but being ‘intelligent’ is a completely separate entity, mixing the two in this scenario is somewhat offensive. Hailing someone as intelligent that witnesses and encourages actions that promote a worsened state of mental illness is just downright wrong and perhaps ironic. Did you know that roughly 40% of trans people have attempted suicide at one point in their life, regardless of whether they have ‘transitioned’. An ‘intelligent’ thing to do would be to give these people the help they need to get back to normal.

As a mom I can’t imagine the emotional roller coaster she’s feeling. As a religious person, I understand where she is coming from. If this was my daughter going through this I would feel heart broken over all of what’s happening; my child not being happy and going through what they’re going through & at the same id feel depress that the human being that I created is not happy, like my body made a mistake in creation. i'm a banana we are long distance so I probably wont be able to be there for him during recovery and he has both top and bottom surgery at once and he's such an energetic person, I am afraid that either during surgery something will go wrong or that he wont take enough time to recover and that this will hurt his body... GraceWaterlilly you will both get through this together, maintain the communication, especially during the surgery process and stay strong. I haven't heard of many top surgery issues so he should get through that one very well, as for bottom surgery I have no clue, but Im sure during the recovery process, if they notice anything is wrong they will immediately rectify the problem. wish you guys the best of luck and a successful surgery and speedy recovery to your boyfriend. Just remember to be strong, and be there for each other as support is key. Good luck!

I think the point is that Branson had dysphoria around their breasts but that not all non-binary people necessarily have the same experience of dysphoria. Some might want surgery, others may not. Also, someone's gender identity is not limited by their physical body. Branson didn't identify as female before their surgery but the surgery helped them to feel more comfortable in a body that matches their gender identity. A trans man who is planning on top surgery but hasn't had it yet is no less a man, and a non-binary AFAB person without dysphoria around their breasts is still non-binary rather than female.

Although I am a Christian that is very devoted to her faith and this stuff is not exactly what I agree with or understand fully, it is still my goal to love and spread kindness. I cried. I'm going through the transition myself and recently my mom said that I would always be her little girl because that's what she gave birth to. She supports me and I know that, but hearing your mom say the things she did made me realize where my mom was coming from. Today was a good day because she wanted to get my pronouns right, and I realize that the change that we make with ourselves won't happen as fast with our parents. Congratulations for your loving supporting mother, for all the parents out there, if you found out that your child isn't the person you raised/ thought him/her to be. Know that your pain and sadness because something you didn't get but them is something they need which is your love and support. You unaccepting them can damage/ lead to depression or suicide. sometimes it's hard to let go of the person you thought you knew. and changing how someone feels and recognizes you and addresses you isn't overnight. but, it's a marathon. not a sprint. your mother trying (and she seems to be doing so as well as you dad I assume) are steps in her marathon and she seems to be giving it her all. i'm so glad you could feel like the person you are and that your parents are there for you. and that they are trying.

We all have to be patient with people when we come out. It's harder on us to come out and be ourselves but it's also hard on the people you're close to if it goes against their beliefs. Glad it worked out for this person though.

I’m MTF 31 and have been on hormones since 11/2016 but ORIGINALLY started in 2004/2005 back when I was living my life as a FULL-TIME female. My name and gender marker is CHANGED to FEMALE and I’ve been approved for Orchiectomy BUT I haven’t told my mom or family yet. I have not been living as a FEMALE since 2013 although I still take hormones. My mom is cool with the hormones but IDK how to explain my decision when she believes deep down there’s still hope that I can still be “male”

Well people walk into the wrong bathrooms by accident all the time. If you’re a girl using the guys restroom people will just think you walked into the wrong restroom. You probably won’t get into any trouble. So it’s not about “can” you use it but more do you feel safe using it. A trans person will probably use the bathroom they’re most comfortable with (meaning they’re a transman so they want to go to the men’s restroom OR they feel scared going into the men’s restroom and maybe they feel like they don’t pass as male either so in that case they’d probably use the women’s restroom. Just depends on the person but lots of trans people feel uneasy about using public restrooms either way.

TGRAM7 I personally believe that those are two completely separate things. Top surgery is cosmetic (for the most part) abortion isn’t. That said I don’t want my taxes to go towards abortion, so I agree, Abortion should be covered by private insurance. Bc the Government shouldn’t be able to tell us what we can and can’t do. :)

Names are not gendered, but the association of being called "Lauren" is that you are female. I personally started going by Idea because of a dysphoria that is purely with my name. Just because a name isn't gendered doesn't mean it can't give you dysphoria ^^ And as stated above, breasts are just fatty tissue over the pectoral muscle, so men can also have what is usually called "breasts"

This made me very happy. As and Trans man going through my transition it makes me so grateful too have a loving mom who will support me through ups and downs. I know nobody will care about what i say in this comment but i want to post this anyway. I am trans. My parents are also very religious. So when i told them that i am trans for the first time (i was at school), they said we would talk when we were all home. When i did get home, it wasnt really much of a talk... my mom cried while trying to talk to me and my dad was as close to crying as ive seen him in a long time (which is saying something cuz ive only seen my dad cry once before, and im 21 now). They basically told me the "i dont agree with what youre saying, but i will support you and i will always love you" thing. But i didnt even take in what they were saying. i was just crushed by the fact that my parents might have saw this as a bad thing. We dont even really talk about it at all. Im scared that when i DO go for the surgeries, that they wont love me the same way anymore. Of course they will say that they do but... im just not sure. Im just.. scared guys. I dont know what to do. Me being trans was brought up in a conversation once and it seemed like she forgot.. i dont know what that means but im surprised that she forgot. When i think about what my parents will say when they see me for the first time when ive transitioned it just scares the crap out of me. I just want them to accept me for who i am. And i want to SHOW who i am but i.... im scared to buy woman's clothing or accessories. I know my grandparents wouldnt understand and question me and tell me how its wrong to dress that way because im a boy and blah blah. and my parents would also question me but might understand but.. *sigh* this whole situation just scares me. it scares me to death. I just want to feel comfortable in my own skin.

Just because they don't agree with your decision doesn't mean that they won't love you anymore. They loved you before you told them, so they should still love you after. You're just changing how you look and the pronouns you go by, your still the same person. They'll get used to it eventually.

Forgive me as I'm not part of the community, but I genuinely don't understand how you can be trans AND non-binary. It seems like an oxymoron. You say breasts are not gendered yet you chose to remove yours. It is quite confusing, I can see why your mum has struggled with both understanding and accepting your decisions, especially given her religion. Anyway it was a wonderful video and I am glad that her love for you shone through the fear and confusion during surgery and she was able to be there for you. No matter how hard something may be to wrap your head around it doesn't mean you can't unconditionally love someone and be there for them.

I tried hard not to cry but I still ended up crying. I plan on getting top surgery this fall and although my mom has given her blessing for it, it still makes me nervous. There will be a lot of emotion brought up for her when that time comes so it's just difficult to imagine how it will go. I'm still beyond excited though, and I know she loves me no matter what. I'm so thankful to have her. My biological dad is severely transphobic and homophobic so I haven't had him in my life at all since coming out, and he's not even aware of it. I don't ever expect his acceptance, so even though my mom and I have struggled through a lot regarding my transition (especially in the beginning) I wouldn't trade it or her for anything. I really loved the way this was pieced together, this video was beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story!💛
