I remember watching this when it aired with my mom. I was 17, and we had just received the news that a classmate of mine named John Christensen died after crashing his car. This performance had a huge impact on me back then, and it's amazing how vividly I remember that night when I listen to it. Such a good song, such a unique crossover... This was really a special moment in music.

So, I saw Jim at a charity show in NYC performing this song and others solo in 2007, with just a guitar and some sort of sampler or rhythm box. I had never heard My Morning Jacket before. His set was early in the show, and he blew every other performer out of the water. I actually cried. One of those shows I will never forget.

Back in 2001 I went to a Doves concert in Boston and some unknown group from Kentucky named My Morning Jacket opened up for them and absolutely stole the show. Been hooked ever since.

Saw My Morning Jacket at Bricks club in SLC around '04. Concert of my life, seriously. Mesmerizing and mind-blowing. I talked to Jim James afterward and asked if I could join the band. He was such an earnest guy. He was like, "well we just got a new guitar player..." I laughed and explained that I was joking, but that I was honestly moved by the show. I wish I'd bought the band beers afterwords. I cherish the memory. This performance really takes me back.
