My Morning Yerba Mate Routine

Quick explanation of how I prepare my yerba mate in the morning from start to finish. Great for people just beginning and looking for a good baseline on their way to becoming Cebadors.

I quit drinking coffee 6 months ago thanks to Mate. It's a great replacement, much healthier and have reduced my gut as well. Feel so much better and I don't get the coffee jitters nor the crash.

People say that shacking it takes the dust out and prevents you from drinkign it. But to be honest, I get more fine leaves through my bombilla if I shake it.

That is because the type of yerba you bought. There are differents brands and types of "moliendas"

Actually, shaking is to mix the components. To get the dust out, you should use a "despolvillador" or buy a yerba whit less dust. (I'm from Argentina, sorry if i didn't write correctly)

Esa yerba Mate (marca Canarias ). No es aconsejable para personas con acidez, y propensos a ponerse nerviosos. Tengo otra información. Los invito que consigan un imán lo pongan dentro de una bolsa de nylon y pongan la yerba en un recipiente en el cual puedan pasarlo por toda la yerba . Posteriormente retirar la bolsa y el imán juntos a otro recipiente, sacar el imán de la bolsa y verificar si hay limaduras metálicas. Acá en Uruguay está esa versión de los hechos.

I've just bought a Yerba Mate starter kit , that hasn't arrived yet so im just watching these clips to figure things out....! 1 question , once you have filled the gourd like you did how long will you use that gourd of leaves for ? Does that last all day , or do you change it later on.

Hey Baz. Welcome to the yerba mate world! For me, it lasts about 2-3 hours before the yerba taste is too far gone. It really depends on how often you are pouring the water into your gourd though. I usually go through maybe 25 oz of water during that 2-3 hour timespan maybe pouring the water in every couple minutes. Once you notice the flavor becoming really weak, then it's time to refresh your yerba. If you google the term "lavado", this the official term for that flat tasting point. Let me know how it works out for you or if you have other questions.

First I'll just say to embrace the initial bitterness of yerba mate in general. It grows on you. Regarding brands, my personal favorites are Cruz de Malta, La Merced, and Playadito. I think Cruz de Malta would be a good one for you to start with. You can find all these on Amazon if you are in the US. Let me know how it works out or if you have other questions.

@@YerbaCrew cool....! Just one more question then I'll stop bothering you , ha. You say it lasts for 2-3 hours , if you make some and suddenly have to rush out after an hour and it's left without use , can you come back to it or is it knackered by that point.

Ha, no problem. These are good questions and will help others that read them. I usually don't try to drink from mine again if it's been sitting stagnant for maybe more than 45 minutes or so because the leaves have been sitting there with water soaked in there and they would have cooled off. However you definitely could. I've heard of other people having it sit all night and they still drink it in the morning. It definitely wouldn't taste the best but if you don't want to refresh with a whole new batch of yerba, then go for it.

La yerba argentina Cruz Malta es muy rendidora por tener hojas molidas más grandes, menos polvillo y palos. En tanto la yerba brasileña Canarias envasada en Uruguay, es mucho más verde, sin palos y más molida y plausible de provocar acidez por ser menos seca. De todas maneras ambas son muy buenas según el paladar y la costumbre del que las consume.

@@danielasuarez9401 I don't know for sure about this product in particular but irradiating things is pretty common for plant imports, essentially they pass it by a strong radiation source to kill off any bugs or seeds. I'm pretty sure it's legally required for any plant import in the United States at least and is 100% safe. It doesn't make anything radioactive it just kills off any potential invasive species. Some people just don't understand how radiation works and get all freaked out by it.
