I was having very bad acid reflux from drinking coffee. I looked for a replacement and stumled on yerba and have not looked back. I have an unorthodux method of preparing yerba. I put 1 tsp of yerba in a Keureg reusable K-cup and brew it with my Keurig brewer. I add tiny bit of hazel nut coffee creamer. It tastes great and no more acid reflux.

Thanks so much for your comment Julia! So many great additions, thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊 Mate was all around me when I lived in CABA in 2015. Eveyone shared their mate with other class mates in university and it was a joy to find out about the tradition and "ceremony" behind it. Whenever I see someone drinking mate tea it reminds me of my time in South America. I'm very grateful for the time I got to spent there and the friends I made for life. ❤

Hi Julia! HI FROM TURKEY :) Can i ask a question aboutt mate gourds? Choose which one?
@juliabarbiero92263 жыл бұрын
Hi Gokhan! Well... it depends on personal preferences and also regional traditions. The ones I like have a big open mouth ( with slightly bending or straight edge) that let's you pour water on one side (where the straw is put), keeping the other side dry, so the taste lasts longer. I haven't had gourds that are too big ( the one I have now is more or less 15cm long x 10cm wide?) ( for eg. I'd never choose one of those that look like a tangerine or tomatoe) The thickness of the 'wooden' material of gourds is another thing to check. The ones that are too thin get easily broken. Hope this description is ...imaginable. Take care! Be well!

Excelente video.

I'm drinking it for the first time now. Biggest advantage over tea is : 🧉doesn't cool down like tea does. Bcz a cup of tea is 100% liquid, but 🧉can contain the heat and even the wooden gourd (mine is not leathered, but is wood) keeps the leaves brewing as you drink. 👍

In my family we usually drink a cup of the mate each. Then we ask does anyone want some and pass it on. We sometimes put a bit of sugar or a limon slice on top. So that the sugar isn't left on the top, we stir the bombilla in place. Like don't move it around like a spoon, but let the bottom of the bombilla stay in place and move it in circles. Kinda hard to explain but hopefully you'll get it.

Hi! The Argentinians and Uruguayans have some things in comon. The culture of Mate and the word Che. The culture that they have of drinking the yerba mate comes from the gauchos from las pampas in Argentina. Right!? :) The gauchos drink the yerba like the Mapuche people - Hot (because of the cold weather) from mouth to mouth in a circle with family and friends. And the word Che means man, people, person, in the mapuche language. NB! The Mapuches and the Guarani had exchange of product including the yerba mate for more than tousand years before the europeans came to America.
I have a new online friend from Argentina and I learned about yerba mate from him. Now I'm curious to try it but it's only sold online in my country and quite expensive too....😢

Hi Steve, great to hear you are enjoying mate now as well. Welcome to the family 😉 you will notice when the taste gets very mild, then take the second yet dry part of the batch in the cup. But I know people refilling with water up to 50 times before they decide to get a completely new batch.

oh wow, I never tried it with orange juice but will do, Caya! :) haha, thank you! Yeah well I'm also known for violating these in a habitual manner so no worries. At some point, we will get it. ;) oh and saying "gracias" actually means you don't want any more tea. I addressed this because in our German culture we tend to say thanks when we really like something and appreciate that someone shares it with us, it's kind of a habit whenever we hand on something we say "thank you" but saying "thank you" and passing on the mate actually means you don't want any more. So only say "gracias" when you are done drinking. Hope that helps, sorry for not making it clear enough in the video. :)

You can use a cup, the bombilla has to be made from metal, because the water is very hot, and has to had the filter in the end. You can make "mate cocido", with the same Yerba, you boil water, put 3 or 4 spoons of Yerba in the water, you can use milk too, then you pass this for a paper coffee filter add sugar and you have mate cocido, is not that strong like the mate if you don't like the strong taste of it

From what I gathered (and isn't specifically explained in this video), it's important that the recipient you're using has a rounded bottom, so you can follow its shape when introducing the bombilla. Otherwise it might be more difficult to filter the smaller bits.

@EileensKitchenStories5 жыл бұрын
Hey Natalia, sorry for getting back so late - haven't seen your comment. This is very interesting because I have never seen Mate tea in a bag. Usually full leaf tea is stronger and more refined than the tea bag version where they use sometimes substitutes or branches from the respective plant - so I reckon it takes longer to reach the same flavour. I would try to soak it according to the package instructions and if it doesn't say anything on the back of the package try to soak if for a minute and then try how you like it. I wouldn't leave it for longer than 3 minutes (as with regular green tea). But make sure to try in between it shouldn't be too "amargo" (bitter) as they say in Argentina. Hope you can enjoy it!

Love your video except the part in sharing the bombita. My sister and I drink it the Arabic way. Each one with a cup and the special straw.

Hi nisigate, thank you for your comment. Of course you can drink it however you like and if you prefer to drink from your own cup, that's totally fine 😊
@juliabarbiero92264 жыл бұрын
wow! didn't know about the "Arabic way" of drinking mate! as an Argentinian, I'm kind of "proud" that this native South American infusion is now popular in many parts of the world! I recon that sharing the straw might be kind of disgusting for people who are not used to it. But here in Argentina it is a MUST to share your mate when you're with others. The ONLY situation in which you are excused, is when you have some kind of illnes (a cold, the flu, etc...). AND you HAVE TO say you're terribly sorry for not sharing and being so rude... a big hug from Entre Ríos province!
@gwolf10964 жыл бұрын
@@juliabarbiero9226 it's not a South American infusion, it's a Paraguayan infusion, it's called té del Paraguay for a reason.

Hey Shivaher, thanks for your comment. When I travelled to Paraguay many drank it with cold water and herbs mixed into it - that's how I got introduced to this refreshing drink. But of course it's also very popular to add juices instead of just plain water. 😊

As a Paraguayan Expat, Tereré is normally drunk with cold water. Although some people do drink it with juice, I’m not a particular fan

how do you switch to use the dry mountain?
@EileensKitchenStories4 жыл бұрын
Hey Adria, sorry for getting back so late. I have never seen Mate tea in a bag at least not in Argentina. But I found that it's called Mate cocido if you find it like that. Hope you can enjoy it!

if the leaves are falling into the water and youre not finished with the wet leaves on the bottom can u use the bombilla to push the dry leaves back up? or is this against the law haha
@juliabarbiero92264 жыл бұрын
mmm... it's definitely against the law! hahaha! But don't worry, because once you pour the water on the lower side, the yerba absoves it and gets like a kind of "stiff mass", so it won't fall.
@thedoover65204 жыл бұрын
Could you describe the taste?
@EileensKitchenStories4 жыл бұрын
Hey there, I would consider it a strong green tea aroma with a good bitterness to it. The tea doesn't steap long but like an English breakfast the aroma develops quickly and so does the bitterness of the tea. Hence, why some enjoy it best with sugar or other extras. 😊

Can you show what to do with the unused leaves on top?
@EileensKitchenStories6 жыл бұрын
Hey Matthew, because the leaves are placed in the mate in a diagonal shape you should try to only water the leaves at the bottom until these don't offer good tea anymore (tea gets foamy/bubbly). Then you can just switch to the top leaves which are still dry and "brew" these to make the tea. If everything is used off just bin it and make yourself a new batch. Hope this helps. Enjoy your yerba mate! 😊

@EileensKitchenStories Жыл бұрын
Hi Derek, Mate tea is usually shortly fired when harvested to ensure a crunchy and dry leaf. They are not necessarily smoked though. Maybe some brands do, but I wouldn't know.

It's so sad to see how the channel died in which so much effort was invested. A beautiful girl made content for more coverage in a non-native (as I suppose) language, then switched to German and that didn't help either. I accidentally came across your video and then I decided to find out who is behind all this. And I saw that the last video was 7 months ago, although before that it had been released several times a month. Sad, very sad. In any case, I wish you the best of luck, stranger. From Russia with love.
