As someone who fished for 25+hrs in prehardmode for sandstorm in a bottle (i was doing a special run and needed it) I'd say that the worth of grinding for an item can also be measured in the other drops you get alongside it. I was able to get like 30+ platinum prehardmode with all that fishing + full fishing set, golden rod, and finishing the super helper achievement lol. Grinding for the pirate staff could net you lucky coin, discount card, and coin gun (as a support weapon), + tons of money. I'd say worth farming for if you have the right setup

The pirate staff really is the hardmode equivalent of the vampire frog staff. Inconsistent, yet insane potential dps, great with crowd control and bosses that it can reach! Very fun and overlooked weapon with the added variety of 1.4 summoner weapons

The bat bat is one of the best weapons early-game, and since you get it from, well, bats, it's easy to get. A great true melle weapon with good knockback.

Pirat stuff , my beloved. It is so so so good. And one of the best looking summons.) (Green one.Ginger people are cool looking. ) Just make ocean desert by draining. Its not hard but real cool for farming stuff. Cool spawnrait , + hallow for wing grind.

In my first ever game, in the first day of hardmode, got a pirate invasion to spawn, and in that pirate invasion got the staff. It might seem like i was lucky, but fighting the pirate invasion with only pre-hardmode stuff, and without knowing half of the game's mechanics was a pain in the ass

Great video! Summoner is by far my favorite class but I have actually never used the pirate staff in my play through. On my most recent one I got it on like my first pirate invasion but I still used the sanguine bat staff.

hey soc, i was just playing terraria the other day, and i got a mage weapon that helped me slay plantera i usually skip this weapon in my playthroughs, but i used it just once, and was pleasantly surprised i'm talking about the magic dagger, it's easy to get, and checks a lot of boxes, it is quite reliable please do a review on this weapon and use it in your next mage playthrough, i'd highly recommend it

you should go over the firecracker whip, it essentially is a whip that gets better as hardmode progresses

One thing to note about the Pirate Staff minion AI is that it will go for the enemy farthest away from the player first. This is best seen during the Old One's Army Event, once your pirates run off to battle, you probably won't see them again until either the Wave is done or the Crystal is destroyed. Niche situation, I know, but it's there.

You know, I seem to remember an ancient video from Yrmir (that KZbinr who did the terraria 1.3 trailer) where he noted the spider staff was even more effective if walls were used to allow the spiders to crawl on them. Would that have made a significant difference in the testing against the pirate staff?

Pirate Staff is actually an incredibly mid weapon that happens to be badly outclassed by Abigail's Flower on Queen Slime, Destroyer, and mobbing, extremely outclassed by Blade Staff on literally everything, and overall happens to be an absolutely horrid weapon choice. Of course, this isn't the case when you have 12 completely illegitimate minion slots and a video full of blatant lies that even a baby chimpanzee could identify immediately. Great going, dude.

You should do the Phoenix blaster, I know people think it's decent but it's like, *really* good. Definitely underrated, I take on WoF with the bone armor and this thing and it feels easy, every time. I really like the idea of summoning tiny pirates that crap and kill enemies, but their attack is boring. Maybe if every 2nd or 3rd summon it will summon a buccaneer, someone with a gun (a flintlock pistol)

Watching the blade staff be used with the firecracker pains me... Speaking of a blade staff review would be cool (For context the blade staff's low base damage and high attack speed makes it work really well with whips that deal summon tag damage, especially if you stack summon tag damage by switching between multiple whips which gives it insane single target DPS that scales with progression. The firecracker does not do that as its effect has a set cooldown that doesn't scale with attack speed).
