@@TheDeathmail I got too problems with this. 1: The battle programs of the AI Professors are trained on the data of a ton of champion-level battles. 2: The real Sada and Turo were actually champion ranked trainers themselves. There's a book in the library of the school that contains a Hall of Fame record, and the professor's name is on the list.

It makes sense too. They know that you have to battle and defeat them to accomplish their goal of stopping the time machine, so while they still have control, they can deliberately neuter the movesets of their team to give you the best fighting chance.

Really harsh on them. The first game I ever played without spoilers and this fight was a shocker. When I saw his eyes glowing and he threw all that master balls I was terrified. I only had one ground move so the iron moth sweeped half my team. Fair points tho!

Similar story here. My in-game team was slow and then I didn't look up Iron Moth's typing beforehand. Except unlike you I didn't have a ground move at all and Iron Moth actually swept my whole team while setting up in my face with Firey Dance. I went ahead and caught a (shiny!) Gabite and evolved it to fix the hole in my team. Problem solved!

Another thing that made these fights difficult is simply not knowing anything about the Paradox Pokémon. In a regular playthrough, you won’t see many of them at all so a lot of this battle’s difficulty comes from playing it by ear

Great point! I like how they hide almost all of the Paradox pokemon until the endgame, it really makes the AI professors basically your first introduction to them (other than walking in area zero)

Yeah this fight was pretty tough for me because a few of them were the first time I was fighting them, and the game doesnt show what is and isnt effective, and then even for the ones it did show, I wouldnt know their typing when it said "Turo is throwing out ___" So I never knew if I should swap for it or not. I still beat it first try without looking anything up, but it was the first pokemon fight I have ever actually needed to use strategy in, because I also never did a 7 star raid before that.

You still get a lot of context clues about them tho, they at least share one type each and the other is pretty easy to guess. Turo and Sada are not good boss fights imo, better than the gym and e4/league battles, but still not good. The fight doesn't feel like the climax it should be for the game mechanically, it doesnt merge everything you did up until that point (making the victory road and star fall street a waste of time in that regard). The fight would've been much better if it was a "totem" battle with Koraidon/Miraidon setting up a permanent terrain/sun, and the professor periodically sending a paradox pokemon caught by the machine as you beat one that isn't Miraidon/Koraidon (make it so that attacking the Miraidon/Koraidon gets harder when there's another Paradox mon around cuz they'll support it). They don't even use full restore.

@@NovaCaspian Meant with the original version of the Pokemon, they all at least share a common type with the other being pretty easy to guess. The only mons I can see being hard to guess are the futur paradox, but by that point you already know that they're not at all Steel type despite what their appearance may suggest. P.S: They also all share protosynthesis/Quark Drive, abilities that are both useless in the fight and completely limit the pokemon in what it can do to surprise the player (Flutter Mane doesn't have levitate for example, or something that might surprise you with an immunity).

I think that’s an indicator of power creep more than anything else. Yes Turo is stronger than Cynthia, but you are also much stronger in this game then you would have been in a game Cynthia is in because gen 9 Pokémon are just much better.

Here’s the thing as a person who had been a fan for 3 generations, but isn’t very competitive, I already failed the battle like 3 times. I understand that competitive players want the game to be harder because they are always seeking the next challenge, but I don’t really understand why players who like hard gameplay don’t get that newcomers or casual players who don’t constantly search for the next meta don’t want an overwhelmingly hard game. Yes, you want a challenge, but you also don’t want beating the game to be completely inaccessible to casual gamers. I personally think that this is why difficulty sliders exist, but Nintendo doesn’t really like to do that for some reason, so I personally think this was a great way to have a difficult final boss, without requiring casual gamers to bang their head against the wall before they eventually give up and start learning how to metagame

Honestly, AI Sada’s Roaring Moon had me absolutely wrecked every single time. It would always out speed and one shot my mons, especially with its booster energy. I had to EV train my Flutter Mane with stuff I had on hand just to have a fighting chance. I ended up getting lucky and landing a hit first, then barely tanking the next hit.

I kind of head-canon that part of why their team moves weren't optimized, aside from being fresh captures, is that it was the AI trying to fight back against its programming to some degree. By keeping themselves from being fully optimized, they were trying to improve the player's odds of success, which fits the narrative imo: They did not want to win. But they were forced to fight you against their wishes, anyway.

Simply give the Professor battle teams the needed weather terrain and/or better movesets, and for Geeta? Well it’s important to consider not everyone is a seasoned pro. I do think that they should start implementing a difficulty scaling option for players who enjoy harder or easier experiences, but until then I honestly really liked the difficulty level, where it might not have been the best possible move-set, but it still had enough to be challenging enough to meet the demands of competitive players who meta game without alienating newcomers and casual fans

according to a multitude of tests that people have conducted using the Showdown AI it seems that Sada's team is more offensive while Turo's is more balanced. Sada vs Turo will usually result in Sada winning, however, Turo wins more general matchups against a wider variety of teams and strategies.

Did you they were still the strongest trainers period? A guy made a video with millions of battles to see which strong trainer was the best, and these two were still at the top, winning against Cynthia and Mustard. So I can't imagine what a nightmare it would be to fight some of the biggest competitive threats with optimal movesets and items. It would be almost impossible to beat them fair(without items) and those with no competitive experience whatsoever would just never beat them. You gotta remember this is not really postgame, this is part of the main story, so it can't be too hard or most people would not be able to finish the game.

I honestly feel like Turo pulls it off better. And the Violet color that the room becomes during the battle against the "Paradise Protection Protocol" actually fits the aesthetic perfectly. Whereas the "Scarlet" has a bit too much red, and throws it off. Also, to throw out a PokeBall that doesn't open, and forced into a battle with the same Pokemon that they made *VERY CLEAR* had killed the original professor... How many other final bosses in Pokemon actually elicit a chill of genuine fear the first time? I know you literally can't lose at that point, but it's just amazing atmosphere. Too bad it's ruined by being unlosable.

I don't know why they didn't put sunny day/electric terrain on each teams lead to at least show off the abilities of the paradox pokemon, the +1 boost would instantly make them more threatening too

They had the “most powerful” Champion Geeta with a team that: 1) did not *open* with Glimmora 2) had Gogoat… for some reason… 3) didn’t end with Supreme Overlord Kingambit. Are we sure the people working on SV knew *anything* about team building and advanced strats? I mean, this is after at least *3* direct iterations of *Cynthia,* for crying out loud (not including the slight changes brought by Platinum).

Controversial opinion: I think turo’s is stronger. Why? One, that iron bundle has a speed of 136 (higher than EVERY paradox Pokémon) and has a really high special attack, iron moth is another great special attacker and iron valiant is a super fast, mixed attacker.

Those are very good points but I think Sada has better type diversity since half of Turo’s team is weak to ground with 2/3 being quad weak. Sada has a better diverse team that you really can’t exploit like that.

@@zigzagrattler6741 here’s another good point. Sada’s team has more quad weaknesses to turo’s. Half of sada’s team (slither wing, brute bonnet and the ace roaring moon) have 4X weaknesses (flying, bug and fairy respectively) while turo’s 2 (iron moth and iron thorns) have that same problem, but against fewer types (only ground).

I thought it was funny that they were like “we’ve been programmed with the battling prowess of all the champions in the region and are 100% unstoppable” then proceed to get a Pokémon FRESHLY CAUGHT out of the Time Machine and proceed to use weak moves 🤣
