Hey MD, long time fan. If you really want to see the difference, you have to put some red plants under them, like some Ludwigia super red or Macrandra, it’ll blow you away. You can see the effect on fish colors already, but 90% of having really nice red plants comes from having a quality light like a chihiros :). Also if you want reds to really pop, I’d recommend having more red and blue in the spectrum than green. I usually have red and blue either equal or red a tad bit higher than blue and then green wherever to keep it from being too purple.

Wow. I have two tanks set up with Fluval plant lights. Easy to control with my phone. But you’re right about the height, which can help the light spread issue. But the Chiros looks great, and I will likely try one on a larger African river tank. Thanks!

It's like you're comparing ADA solar light with Fluval light... If you can see the actual spec of the product, you'll definitely and immediate know which one is better. Also, the way you do maintenance, dosing fert, and also substrate wise does influence as well.

I've seen it next to a tank with Aquatlantis Easy LED Universal 2.0, old-school "natural" spectrum LED light. Both aquariums lush and green, both high tech with CO_2 injections and ferts. This particular line of Chihiros is like a Mercedes, compared to BMW. Flood lights would be like VW Golf. Fluorescent tube would be that famous Lada Zhiguli. Plants can grow well with each of these lights, provided they have good substrate, ferts, etc. The thing is, more efficient LED lights are more expensive, but the colours look better and with current costs of the electricity... I've got 2 x 72W Aquatlantis lights on my 714l (190gallon) aquarium, with Chihiros it would be similar. I expect I'd need twice that much LED strips, flood lights or quality fluorescent tubes. With CO_2 injections (more lights) it would be even worse. Compare 140 W peaking vs. 300 - 700 W for 8 hours a day. It's one way to save money, other would be switching focus on fish (Black water, African great lakes...).
@travistarp74662 жыл бұрын
Imo its more about the look then growing plants. You can get insane growth with flood lights, its more about co2 and ferts. Unless your doing dutch you probably wont wanna turn the light on 100% thats how you get algae
@Mrandyol4 ай бұрын
Important to note that Chihiro RGB lights can come with mirrored shade (purchased separately) if you're setting up a tank beside a desktop or TV. These shades prevent you from being blinded by the lights in a dining room or office space if you're sitting lower to the tank. It's the main reason I am going to purchase a Chihiro RGB over a ADA Aquasky RGB II and ONF Flat One+ which don't have the shade options.

Like how the fish pop under those lights. Who knows sometimes in the future I have to try something a bit higher budget as well :). I am actually using three black rgb LED floodlights at the moment, they fit great with the diy industrial wooden theme of the stand. Used black scaffolding tube to hang them and can even simply adjust the height with the standard fittings. Super easy even for a DIY noob. Got the inspiration from you so thnx for that!

Thanks for the review, I've been eyeing these lights! I've gone from LED shop lights to the Fluval Plant lights on all my tanks because the tanks are all fairly shallow depth and the ability to control intensity is extremely important for me. The shop lights were great to a point but once ANY algae caught hold it would explode with growth, then it was boom and bust removing algae, chasing nutrients and trying various methods to dim the lighting to get a nice balance. Now that I've been able to adjust the Fluval lights I am getting great growth (eg: visible day to day runner growth on my sagittaria subulata) and no issues with algae.

What you are describing is the CRI (colour rendering index). 6500K I dont think you need more because thats midday. You can build your own system, you just need a CRI higher than 90 and 6500K white balance. Philips do a downlight for like £6-8 then the parts you need to adapt that into an E27 fitting and you have yourself a lovely system.

I'd like to have Chihiros lights on all my tanks, but as you said, they are expensive.
@washy9342 жыл бұрын
As per your advice, in fact using one of your links, I started out with one of those APS lights - the build quality sucks, the radio buzzed when it’s off but plugged in and it electrocutes you when you touch it….. but it’s cheap and it works. Recently upgraded to a Chihiros wrgb2, I’m not sure KZbin does it justice - the difference is absolutely spectacular the fidelity, colour gamut, rendition it’s really unbelievable the difference in visual enjoyment it makes. As you rightly stated though it’s for the show piece tanks.
@nobrainsnoheadache24342 жыл бұрын
When you think about the fact that the lights are on only half the day (on average shall we say), LED shoplights look more and more attractive. My fish pop just fine. Not saying that expensive isn't worth it, but nothing beats natural light, my shoplights are just an addition. I like the way the expensive lights are so sleek though, some of the designs are pretty cool.

why do people need to have fish colors "pop?"
@Nick-ul1iq2 жыл бұрын
@@heaven7360 to show off their full beauty? What’s the point of having a school of diamond tetras at $10 a fish if their scales aren’t shimmering? After stocking a tank of over 40 fish at that price you stand back sometimes and wonder if you’ve really gone "low tech". Although it’s not necessary, if people can afford it I think it’s worth it.
@PaulZyCZ2 жыл бұрын
@@Nick-ul1iq The thing is: It seemed to me Chihiros WRGBII colours were bit off, like a painting. Nice, but not all that natural. Now I'm bit nitpicking here and it might be a matter of configuration. It's definitely better than with cheap lights, but I like the way fish look under other quality LED lights. Sadly with LED we will never get full-spectrum light, just approximation, but the quality fixtures have either better looking light (subjective) or better for plants (the whole room looks pink). With chips sometimes there's even the output(!) measured in Watts, not just input, but with light fixtures there's always Lumens and often nonsensical. Lumens are meant for the human eye, not chlorophyll and pigments in plants (hence pink lights for... herbs). Luckily people do tests, some even with probes, so it's possible to compare different LED lights.

I've currently got an old Aquatic Life T5 fixture that I used back when my 29 gal tank was setup for reef but I'm now switching back to fresh water. I know this fixture would technically work and looks more natural but I really am liking the pop from these LED fixtures. I'm currently torn between something like this or just saving up and buying a pair of the AI Prime freshwater lights. I've had my current light fixture for over 16 or 17 years and it was a buy once cry once purchase for me back then and I'm sort of leaning towards the same mentality for the AI Primes.

He’s going to want co2 or turn that light way down. I’ve got my same light on 50% and co2 and I trim every week handfuls.

The smaller size wrgb 2 are definitely more affordable in my opinion. I would recommend them despite the price. The “Week aqua” brand are slightly more budget friendly, and I actually prefer them anyway. The m300 pro is the best light I’ve had. I like it more than my wrgb2 60.

wow. those fish definitely do pop in that light! .. though i opt for less expensive lights, but it's good to know some of the differences you get for the more cash
