Really am curious what the repercussions are for fighting against Turkish forces with them being apart of NATO and all. They don't fight all Kurds in Syria, mainly the YPG/PKK. But just like someone else posted, you won't really get into trouble unless you enter Turkey. If you're captured in battle then the US won't bother to retrieve you because you're legally not supposed to be there.

So on paper you're not supposed to even if they're friendly, but the enforcement of it is different. However, you can still get in trouble if any of the people you were with are affiliated with terrorists or are considered as such (the PKK falls under this definition). American volunteers were angrily turned down by US forces when they approached them. Not saying he did this, but sharing US tactics without the state department's approval is a violation of ITAR

My uncle is an Afghanistan veteran, he is a very outgoing man. However whenever you mention his time in Afghanistan he locks up, recently I stayed a weekend at his house and he was drinking heavily. As he was continually getting drunker and drunker he mentioned how the only time he had been this wasted was in Afghanistan. He then showed me footage of his Afghanistan deployment, a slideshow then played of some of the most horrifying scenes of war imaginable, locked in his mind and a USB for 10 years.

Ypg is just the syrian extension of Pkk which is literally another terrorist organization. And IS and Turkey are not on the same side they just have a common enemy, Turkey wants to eliminate all the insurgent forces (especially Pkk) in that region to keep the borders safe. IS wants to establish control in northern syria/iraq to found an islamic state. And Pkk/Ypg wants to found a kurdish state in the same region. Thats what they are fighting for. There are 3 sides: IS, Turkey and Ypg/pkk. Turkey is fighting both Ypg and IS.

A) the ypg isn't in iraq, he's with the ybs here. so he's in a different country with a completely different group at this point. B) the ypg didn't attack the turks, the pkk did. two different organizations. erdogan is afraid of the idea of greater kurdistan taking turkish land so he fights kurdish groups everywhere and started bombing the autonomous region of rojava as a way to push back kurds on his border even though they weren't directly threatening him and were just focused on themselves and on fighting daesh. he publicly equates the ypg and pkk even though they are separate groups. pkk is a kurdish separatist group and terrorist organization within the borders of turkey. ypg is in syria. different groups again. he is concerned that ypg and pkk will get along and annex part of turkey which is not what's happening, although i get his concerns about endangering the turkish state. however that is not a justification to kill civilians and bomb hospitals which erdogan does, and has been doing through operations like operation claw sword where he mobilized troops against syrian/rojavan kurds using the pkk as a justification. you basically got the group wrong twice, however, i don't blame you because there's not a whole lot of info online about this kind of stuff -- it's heavily censored. this isn't me trying to argue with you in comments and tell you that you're wrong and be hostile, just trying to provide more information. The pkk has been harassing south-eastern Turkiye for over 40 years. Ambushing recurits, Bombing schools, hospitals, hundreds of hostage situatuions, and in 2015-2016 the Hendek Operations took place which was basically total Urban Warfare, Turkiye suffred cuz of this dumb "kurdistan" dream. Now that Turkiye has its Tier 1 units and a much better Army/Airfoce/Navy and its advanced UAV arsenal, they are hammering everyone and everything that is a threat or a potential threat. This has nothing to do with race or anythin, there are tens of thousands of Kurdish personnel in the Turkish army. Now for the YPG, Both of these groups serve the same purpose - The kurdistan dream. The YPG is basically the FSO( Free Syrian Army) version but serving as a lap dog for the US instead of Turkiye. God Bless you mate.

as someone who has family who fought in the war in iraq, i see absolutely no way i could ever do this and risk my life for absolutely nothing. at the end of the day random people like you and me die, and a father, brother, cousin, boyfriend, husband die for absolutely nothing. why fight in war like this? its so sad to me. i know people fight to fight, fight to kill, want to kill or be killed, but to all the new guys who have 0 idea whats ahead of them, risk their lifes to gain nothing. i absolutely respect the veterans of past wars and understand why they fought. i just could never go fight and to die, just to waste 21 years of my life when only thing my parents get are depression and mourn over my death.
