When thousands of United States troops from Georgia’s Fort Stewart and Fort Benning invaded Iraq on March 19, 2003, one was an Army specialist with a camcorder, Robert Ayres.
Ayres was an infantryman deployed at a makeshift camp in the Kuwaiti desert a few weeks earlier called Camp Pennsylvania.
As Army troops ramped up to cross the nearby Iraqi border, he trained his camcorder on some of his comrades-in-arms.

Its so easy to understand but some how you cant? A leader of the US said that we were going to war. The first part of the war was fine like in this documentary but then they didnt pull us out. Its stupid to hate on the civilians when they disagree with something another country is doing being that the civilians/soldiers are not the ones that chose to go to war. Thats like me hating on russian civilians because their leader is making them go to war. The Iraq invasion is pointless and so is the Ukraine invasion. The US shouldnt have been in Iraq long and Russia shouldnt be in Ukraine.
@rajdeeproy8182
@rajdeeproy8182 Жыл бұрын
@@sirbacon1617 You live in the US, I assume. Given the history of the US, and as you point out , the fact that the president's power is not restricted (tough it prides itself as a democracy) ,a sovereign nation must possess the ability to defend itself. Given the untrustworthiness of US leaders, the expansion of NATO can't be allowed. If you see a venomous snake that has killed two people in front of you, slowly creep towards you, do you let it bite you first or do you kill it at once? So Putin is securing a buffer zone between NATO nations and his country, it's the only way he can secure his interests. As you yourself say, your leaders are whimsical and don't give a damn about international laws . And the fact that Putin's popularity surged in Russia after the start of the SMO, is proof that Russians support the operation.

😂 no one lost s**t except lives, structure, and money. Wars can not be won when a win wasn't pursued in the first place. Warriors fought, and the ones "in charge" made money. The truth is that battles and firefights weren't lost by the American warrior. Everything was lost by those in charge. Since World War 2, there was never an attempt to win anything, just prolong it.

Being in Iraq was by far the worst 18 months of my life!! I remember the smells, sounds, screams, the horrific visions. We didn't know what the fuck we were there for, and so many innocent lives were lost; military and Iraqi citizens. The government wasted billions of dollars! For what? Shit, my unit couldn't even get a proper bulletproof or flak vests. But we were committed to finding and killing the enemy. Little did we know our enemies were on our soil🇺🇸

Man, I remembered being put on stop movement orders prior to the war starting as I reenlisted to move over to the 3rd Infantry division. I was with the 4th Infantry division and we were originally supposed to push from the north via Incirlik air base in Turkey but we were denied so we had to reroute our equipment to Kuwait and then gear up and move to support 3rd ID as they were getting close to Baghdad. we were combat loaded onto a HETT and was driven until we were 10 miles outside of Baghdad. We were dropped there and then moved into Baghdad. Even after 3rd ID cleared the way in, we got into some engagements of our own. fast forward to August 2003, I was given the all clear to move to 3rd ID and Joined them as they were taking their well deserved leave. I went back to Iraq three additional times (2005, 2007 for 15 months in the Al-Anbar Province with brigade at Ramadi and 2009 to shut down the bases) four total deployments and three of the four was with 3rd ID (two with first brigade and one with third brigade). I still have nightmares about my deployment days of 2005 where 90% of the negative things of the deployment happened. I was 26 years old and at that point I had six years in service. RIP SGM Gallagher.....

There's one thing I don't understand. It is generally taught that the Iraqi army was quickly destroyed by the US and its allies. However I see in the comments section several former soldiers talking about colleagues who died, or lost limbs, or were otherwise seriously wounded in the course of several (re)-deployments. Something doesn't add up. Who was putting up the resistence?
@theamazingempiricist
@theamazingempiricist 10 ай бұрын
There was a power vacuum after the Iraqi army was decimated by the US. Local warlords and militia took power on the basis of stabilizing their region or area. Their allegiances were based on their branch of Islam (Sunni vs. Shia) or tribal affiliation. The fighting from then on was a lot more like a drawn out guerilla war with different factions terrorizing each other or the US forces still in Iraq. The US eventually withdrew unceremoniously and now Iran flexes an enormous amount of influence in Iraq through the militias that succeeded and also won elections.

@@groggerpingas America has lost all of its soldiers in Iraq, whether dead, mentally ill, or disabled. Despite the alliance of more than 30 countries against Iraq and the strongest armies, they will not be able to control the city of Fallujah, Sadr City, the Wadi al-Salam cemetery in Najaf, Dhi Qar, Sniper Juba, and many of all these areas. The places were a nightmare for the Americans. They would not approach them because they knew very well that when they entered them, they would be torn apart. I feel like there is something wrong when I try to convince an American person that the invasion of Iraq is a grave mistake and a disgrace to America, and that the Iraqis are victims and the American soldiers were brainwashed. Even the American government admitted that the invasion of Iraq was a mistake. big

Yeah I was a soldier myself back then, me and my buds used to talk about US's invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan. We imagined various scenarios how to defend our nation if US did this to us then. TBH, we had sympathy for Saddam Hussein and unlike Taliban or Al Qaeda we never found any useful reason to why US would invade Iraq other than for it's oil. 20 years later I think we were correct in our conclusion.
