WOW Jared! This is your most impressive video to date. What you’re doing here isn’t easy! Even if you are going by someone’s blueprints and design it’s not easy to pull off. If this you’re own design, well I am impressed beyond measure. Great work!

Such a Cool Build, very excited to see the end result ( I have a 1993 Miata with a JR supercharger, 1.6 motor , and it need a engine and Electric ECU upgrade, and a good re-new or parts and bushings)

Serious fab skills there. How did you compute the Ackerman angle and make sure that all the adjustability would give you toe in, castor, and camber?

Did you consider going to a rack and pinion system instead? The 133/126 rack would be applicable here and you could then not have welded parts in your steering mechanism.
@Jerod_Helt2 жыл бұрын
I did consider it but decided against it. I felt it would create more problems than it would fix. But it’s always an option down the road if needed.
@Tubeframe52672 жыл бұрын
Great work. A question, are the tie rods and spindles forged or cast. Not sure I would trust welded cast steering and suspension components. Also you should put a larger washer on top of the steering heim joint to prevent the heim joint from jumping off the spindle if it fails. Cheers and great project.

@17:54.....Did the original suspension also raise the car at you turned the front wheels?
@Jerod_Helt2 жыл бұрын
Yes, thats caused by the caster angle and wider tires. The shocks are too stiff for this car so it’s more noticeable right now.
@karlmead47942 жыл бұрын
An 850 uses 9 degrees of caster due to how light the front is to ensure you get self centering and to maximize tracking stability. So yes, the original suspension gave you significant ‘jacking’ when going from lock to lock.

Jared hi. Apologies but I have a technical question for you -- what type of drill bit are you using to make countersink holes in the steel plate around 2:19 in this video? I needed to make countersinks in a steel plate at home for one of my DIY projects and the stuff I bought on ebay was hopeless -- the s--tty bit I had would not make a single one... Thanks!
@Jerod_Helt2 жыл бұрын
It’s a step drill bit. I wish I could recommend a brand but I’m not really happy with the ones I have, and I don’t remember what brand they are.

How did you come up with your suspension Ideas? Are you self taught welder? As I want to learn tig.
@Jerod_Helt2 жыл бұрын
Google searches and KZbin videos for suspension design. Yes self taught, watched several videos on tig welding, bought a good welder and started practicing. I think most people that don’t succeed at welding are using a cheap welder. It’s important to have a good machine when you start so that the only limitation is your skills not the machine.

Just found your channel this morning from a FB post. Are those shocks being used in the front suspension GSXR rear shocks?
@Jerod_Helt2 жыл бұрын
Yes they are, but they’re too stiff, I’ve ordered new shocks.
@lunkydog2 жыл бұрын
@@Jerod_Helt I kind of figured that but thought you might just do a spring swap. You can get a heck of a buy on an eBay GSXR or R6 shock that's double adjustable if you can work around the stiff spring problem.
@turbofan672 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the problem with rear motorcycle shocks is that they're designed to work with a progressive link system, not direct drive.

Some states, such as my state, have a yearly safety inspection that is performed on all road worthy vehicles. Any modifications to the suspension warrants a failed safety inspection. If the shop passes something that is modified and there is an accident due to a failure of the suspension, that shop would be fined, the inspection mechanic and the shop may even lose their inspection license. I will say your tig welds look good. Sorry for being negative with my comment.
