As someone who suffered living in a house where the parents "stayed for the kids," I can say without a doubt that it NEVER works. The toxicity is everywhere, the fights are an everyday thing, the tension is unbearable, you basically teach your kids that "this is normal," and so many other bad things. From this story, I suppose OP's family is low-middle class or something. The dad's fears of not seeing the children and how difficult finding another place seemed at the end. Since the law tends to favor women, fighting in court is an uphill and expensive battle.

This story makes me appreciate that my parents split instead of faking it and "staying for the kids".

The dad deserves to be happy. Just split and move on. If the dad does choose to stay then go the petty route and cheat back or fake cheating back. Give her a taste of the same medicine
