Just like your mom I grew up and was a young adult in the 80's and 90's. What a glorious time for perfume lovers, and yes if you lived through 60'-90's, you lived through perfume's golden age. Great video!!

Hi Luke and Luke’s Mum. 😊 It was such a pleasure to meet you!😊 I can’t put into words how lovely and special this video was! Many thanks to your Mum for sharing her travels and favorite perfume memories with us. The two of you were lovely together. The photos were perfect. I remember the early days of perfume shopping. You had to sample and buy in-store. I know it’s more convenient to shop online, but it robs you of the luxurious experience of shopping as it once was. The lovely thoughts your Mum shared at the end touched me. Why do I have a lump in my throat?😢 Thank you…to both of you.💛

Hello Luke 👋🏻 Oh my goodness, how perfectly lovely it is of you to introduce us to your Mum... And may I add she definitely has great taste, and speaks with so much experience... Everything was (or seemed) so much more luxurious and decadent in the 80's & 90's 🥳🌼😘 Life has unfortunately become so bland & one dimensional, don't you think? 👀 Trust you have something special planned for your weekend🎉🎉 Bless you and those you love Luke 🧡 Gerhard xoxo

This is such a lovely video. Just to hear your mum sharing her scent memories, and the two of you discussing them together, was incredibly beautiful. My mum also loved perfume, but only had maybe 2 or 3 bottles. As a young woman Chanel Gardenia, there was a Helena Rubenstein one she wore ( I cant remember which one), then it was always Clinique, Aromatics Elixir. Occasionally Blue Grass by Elizabeth Arden, and Beautiful or Pleasures. We didnt have a lot of spare money growing up, yet there was that pride in appearance, clothes, smelling nice, that sort of had that ' put together feel', that I associate with a generation long gone and sadly missed. How wonderful that with just one spray we can be transported back into memories of loved ones and special times.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it; thank you for leaving such a lovely comment. 🧡 Your mum had great taste, which really rings a bell for me. My great-grandma was similar, very frugal but always impeccably dressed and put together. I must say that I also miss that kind of wisdom today.

That's so true! I don’t fly often nowadays, but I'm always disappointed when I do fly with EasyJet or Ryanair. Unless you fly business or first class, the experience isn’t great. However, with perfumery, we still get to enjoy wonderful fragrances. Vintage bottles are usually easy to find. Thanks for watching, Claire. 🙂✨

Well Luke, thank you for sharing this beautiful story! It's a great pleasure listening to you and your mother on the fragrances you like and all the memories. For me this is simply the most beautiful video on fragrances I've seen, so recognisable also. Back in the days you bought a bottle of perfume, in a store, you liked it and used it up. I understand your love for perfumes the way your mother talks about them. Thank you both for sharing this with us.

What great topics and questions for your charming interviewee Luke. She’s so right about the lack of preconceived notions we had back then when going into a perfume shop. @lukeparfums a challenging question! I own and adore several SG creation but I’m going to go with YSL Paris. How can something be fresh, damp and green, and also rosey, violet, and powdery? I’ve loved it for 40 years and feel it’s current formulation is really quite good. I love the bottle design and cap too. 💕

Hi Luke and Mom, I live in the US and I think wearing scents depends on the person and also culture because where I’m from and within my circle of family and friends, we wear fragrances. My students even wear fragrances (for them still mostly body sprays).

Cabotine, Tendre Poison and Cerruti 1881 were my signature scents too back in the nineties😀. I have forgotten about Cerruti and how it smelled. Thank you Luke!

It's so interesting to hear that people don't wear fragrances where you live! In my country (Hungary), I can catch whiffs of perfume wherever I go, both on older and younger people. Arab fragrances have just recently entered the country and now every second person in the captial (so far they are only videly available there) smells like oud! So yeah, all in all, we wear perfume and a lot of people are just discovering/moving onto niches
@lukeparfums
@lukeparfums 2 ай бұрын
That’s interesting. I’m aware that what I said is a generalization and just my opinion. I’ve lived in several European countries, and my experience is that I simply don’t smell fragrances on people anymore. I rarely catch whiffs. Keep in mind that I’m talking about the last few years. When I lived in the UK, I would smell Angel, La Vie Est Belle, or Coco Mademoiselle at least once a day somewhere outside. Middle Eastern scents seem to be really popular, but I guess not where I live.

Such a beautiful and interesting video! A joy to watch and listen-thank you! I agree that Cabotine is almost identical to Tendre Poison! I have a bottle of Krazy Krizia, and I'd say it's closer to Calvin Klein Obsession or the original Moschino than it is to Dune-it is very strong and intense.

Hi Luke great video , as someone who works in the industry, I take my job seriously and do a lot of training, I have also got my fragrance foundation,my main brand I sell now is Versace but I have sold many brands over the years, a lot of companies use agency workers especially at Xmas , I have worked for agency too we do get some training but I will always read up on what I am selling , but as you say we have a lot of students and younger people who may not do the same at times , also we are flooded with new perfumes and flankers all the time , in the 80s the perfumes were much less and better quality ingredients I think a lot now cannot be used due to regulations etc I loved discovering your mums perfumes I also was a poison and tendre poison fan ! Poison was my first fragrance I saved up for weeks to buy in 1987 😊

The market is really oversaturated with new releases. I was specifically referring to students and salespeople who work the entire floor, not just the perfume section, as is the case at my local department store. It’s a shame. I asked for Givenchy Organza once (naturally, they keep the tester stashed away because they needed room for another L'Interdit flanker), and I was told that it’s a perfume for old ladies. I’ve got enough stories to tell for an entire video. Thank you for watching. 🙂

Hello dear Luke. What a beautiful video! Both of you have the same peacefull and soothing voice. Your mom is a special and very interesting woman. As a journalist and a writer she must have some amazing stories! Those times were so different from tbd times we live in. Everything was harder to get and consequently more valuable. We now consume a lot guilty as charges. What changed in our mindset that back then we only had 1 bottle of perfume and we didn't bought another one untill we empty it and now we have dozens and are always looking for the very best next thing?! Beautiful choises. Cabotine os always on my collection and indeed is similar to Tendre Poison. Luke you have to tell the name of the book about honey your mother wrote. A big kiss and hug to both. ❤

I have recently been buying perfumes from the 70s, 80s and 90s. My choices are more what I knew and wore back then, like Obsession, Eternity, Looks by Jordache, Jontue, and Avon's Pavi Elle and Lahana. I'm so tired of so many perfumes lately smelling like sticky sweet candy. I long for the deep florals and spices of scents from 3-5 decades ago.
