This past year I have started to go natural and curly. I grew up in Montana and felt embarrassed about having curly hair because I was around everyone with straight hair and they would make fun of me having curly hair. I didn’t have anyone to teach or help me with my hair so I ended up straightening and relaxing it for years. I would just put in a ponytail like you when I was younger and it turned into straight up dreadlocks! My hair kept breaking off horribly and looked dead even when i did straighten it. So I decided to go on the curly journey. Had no idea what to do at all and ran into one of your videos and was even more inspired of how beautiful your curly hair is. I convinced myself that I WILL have beautiful luscious curls like you. I have learned SO much of how to handle and what to do with my hair from your videos. So I just wanted to say thank you so much!! I thought I was the only one. I’m glad I am on this journey and wish I would have done it a lot sooner!

You are MY hero. I am currently going into the 10th grade, and I'm struggling with so much heat, and bleach damage in my hair. My hair is curly, but it lost its bounce like it use to have. I want my hair longer and healthier. just like you said that you stumbled upon a KZbin channel that change your life, your channel changed mine. I just want to celebrate my curls and wear them out like I use to. thank you so much for waking me up and helping me realize what I need to do. I'm subscribing ❤️❤️

I just want to say that I have been SEARCHING for a video like this. I have been looking at all of these natural hair videos trying to figure out my hair type and what do to with my hair. Like you, I got perms from a very young age all the way up to my late teens. Then I started flat ironing my hair all the time. Now I have decided that I want long luscious curly hair. Right now it's shoulder length and I hate it. I've been trying to figure out my hair type but no one in all of the videos I have watched had hair that looked like mine. Until I saw the clip you inserted of that "tutorial" you filmed a long time ago. Now I know that it's not a curl pattern it's heat damage. Your hair in that clip in exactly what my hair looks like now. Thank you so much for helping me finally realize what is wrong with my hair and why it never looks the way I want it to. I am going on my own journey starting today. I seriously can't thank you enough.

Thankyou for this video. I've had the same experience as you with my hair journey. Permed at a young age,not taking care of it,etc; I've been natural for about 2 and a half years (Big chop) and it has been the greatest thing! I didnt know I had curls either, I always envied girls with beautiful curls. We have around the same hair texture, which is great for motivation. I love seeing the potential of my hair. Thankyou so much

I never post comments...but this was like a flashback to my own hair history. I did almost the same thing with my hair -- perming, pulling them back in a pony tail, up in a bun, flat ironing to a crisp -- and I had no idea how to take care of black hair because I was the only girl in my biracial family who had hair like this. Great to know there's hope :)

Babygirl, the best thing you can do for your hair is to stop putting heat on it. . Add that moisture that you have lost from all of that heat back into your hair with deep conditioners, leave in's and oils. Ask your mom to help you braid up your hair or put your hair in twist so that you are locking in that moisture & staying away from the heat. You'll get better at managing your natural hair overtime. It's a long journey & a learning experience along the entire time, but you will get there! I'm rooting for you love 💙

My bangs are the worst, they no longer have any type of curl to them. I really want to be able to grow my hair out and regain my curls back. When I was in elementary school I would get perms and that caused my hair to break off so much. Since then I have not gotten any perms but I started to straighten my hair a lot and that's what causes my hair to not have its full curls. I honestly need to cut off my ends but with how short my hair is now I'm pretty scared to have any of it chopped off.

No worries girl, I went through pretty much the same thing! The biggest thing I would suggest is to stay away from that straightener! I know it's easier said than done, but it will be SO worth it! Try doing protective styles to make your bangs curl - Like braiding your bangs, putting a twist in your bangs, ANYTHING but straightening them! The longer you stay away from heat, the longer your hair will grown, and than once you get to a point where you feel like it is long enough to afford a small trim - Go for it! Even if it's not a large trim, cutting some of those dead ends off is still a small step in the right direction, ya' know? I know it seems hard at first, but once you start seeing your hair grow & those curls come back in you'll be fully committed, I promise lol! I wish you the best on your hair journey babygirl! 💙

+Kenzey Cooper Thank you so much! Since summer vacation is starting for me in a week I'm not gonna straighten my hair at all during the summer unless I absolutely have to.

Olivia Satterwhite I just got my bangs to be curly again, like last year they were bone straight and a few months ago they started to get wavy and now they curl sooo nicely but oh my god my embarrassment when I used to use flexirods to get my bangs curly while the rest of my hair was tightly coiled and god forbid it rained before I got to school... oh my god. But now I have been heat free for a year and a half, using twist outs, keeping my hair in space buns or one big puff with bangs or just rocking a wig, and my hair has grown so much. Apparently when you don't bother it, it grows way more.

I want to start my hair journey! I think the problem is that parents may not know how to take care of curly hair and how much time you need to put in so it's always healthy and moisturized. I'm starting to remember back when I was a kid that my mom would always put my hair in a braided ponytail or braid AND would NEVER have it down. I think my mom thought my hair was hard to handle so she sort of hid my curls, the frizzines cuz she didn't know how to take care and style it. Braids are nice and all but now I feel it was more of a way to hide it back then. I wouldn't even unbraid it to have nice formed curls but just head straight to the shower and put it in a ponytail. So know I still feel really weird if my hair is down and not just that but not all of my hair is curly some is very straight or wavy. Now I just want to embrace my curls! ☺️😝

I'm 12 & I already have major heat damage. I admire your curly hair. I used to have 3C curls. I've been looking up curly hair products but am still lost. I really have no idea what to do with my hair! I just don't know where to start....

Hi babygirl! Thank you so much 💖 I would suggest staying away from the heat as best you can & focusing on deep conditioning and doing lots of protective styles such as braids! As far as repairing the heat damage, I would say try the Aphogee 2-step protein treatment! When your hair is heat damaged it is lacking protein, so doing the protein treatments will help add that protein back in. This treatment helped bring my heat damaged hair back to life so much without having to do a big chop. However, I would be careful with the protein treatments because to much protein can cause breakage as well. So I wouldn't recommend doing these kind of treatments more than once a month to every other month. I hope this helped babygirl & I wish you the best on your hair journey. Love you ❤️

How often should I wash my hair? How do you deep condition your hair and how often do you do that?

my mom permed my hair at like 9 think and i recently just stopped straightening my hair, luckily i had gotten a hair cut a day before i stopped so my ends aren't that bad but i still have some straight bits at the back and a lot of my hair is wavy rather than curly

Omg this video gave me so much hope because I also don't know how my natural hair really is and I just stared with the journey so you know if deep conditioning your hair every other day instead of every week is bad ?

Love love love your hair Kenzey. BACKGROUND My hair used to be really curly like yours and I went natural till year 7. Then my mum hair my hair cut in a bob without asking me so I've been straightening my hair for school daily and on nights when I go out (around once a week). CURRENTLY I have now finished my first year uni so I've been applying heat for 7 years straight. My hair for some reason does not grow past my shoulders and it is just frizz! If I try to do a sleek bun, it is guaranteed I will still get frizz at the roots and it just look like a really bad bun. Also my hair has thinned out completely and it makes me cry. My hair is also very very dry and I feel like it does absorb oil anymore - I apply it like once every two weeks. Please please please give me advice on how to get my curls back with no frizz and healthy thick hair. Shall I just try to add moisture like you did? Please do the braid tutorial, no idea how to do it.

Hi beauty! It sounds like your hair is just severely heat damaged like mine was! You definitely have hope babygirl! The reason your hair isn't growing past your shoulders is because it is dry, which is causing it to break off. The first thing you need to do is begin deep conditioning your hair weekly, this is MAJOR key in adding that moisture back into your hair. The more moisturized your hair is, the less breakage you will endure and the more manageable/easy to do your hair will be! You will definitely need to stop straightening your hair - Keep your hair in it's curly state and make sure that you are keeping your hair moisturized with a leave in conditioner and sealing your ends with an oil (such as coconut oil). I will definitely make a video on how to braid soon that way you can use that as an option because braids are life saving when recovering from heat damage! Basically, the root of all of your issues (thinning, frizzy, & dry) is because your hair is not moisturized. The sooner you get your hair to a moisturized state, the sooner you will begin to see your hair grow, get thicker and become softer, less frizzy and overall more manageable! I truly hope this helps! Don't lose site of that healthy hair you are in search of, you most definitely can reach your goals and I believe in you! Love you 💜
