That's a crime shame that we have gotten to the point we have to avoid stylists and braiders because of their issues with clients having a head full of long hair. Smh... I'm not surprised, more like embarrassed and super annoyed. They really do have some jealousy issues. I just want to expose them and ask them, why are you doing hair if you have jealousy issues??? I guess don't think we do length checks, and can actually tell when someone has cut our hair. 😕 I'm sorry you went through that, nevertheless the jealous actions of another did not stop your hair from thriving. ABSOLUTELY Beautiful☺
@EfficientlyNatural8 жыл бұрын
+NaturallyKoily Kuteness I agree with completely. It's quite sad. I'll have to tell you/make a video about what happened when my niece and I went back to the braiding shop to complain and literally took down a braid in front of them to show them where my hair was cut. Story time coming up! 😊And thank you!!!! In the end, hair will grow back, but it's definitely another lesson learned.

Oh. my goodness. You people are making me scared to go to stylists. To have something you care about like that (you had to have put a lot of time and heart into your hair) and put your trust in someone only to be slapped in the face.. *shudders* I feel you guys,

Kenisha Richardson Don't be afraid to go to a professional stylist. Research a stylist the way you would when buying a car. Check thier work. Have a consultation. Make sure they are comfortable with natural hair. Ask how long they have been doing Natural/Virgin hair before paying any deposit or booking an appt.

@@EfficientlyNatural Hi Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this inspiration! The things jealousy can make an indivdual (who is supposed to be professional) do is terrible. Unfortunately, you see this phenomenon in various workforce environments, and not just among (supposed) professional hair stylists. Instances like the one you shared support my argument that women tear each other down--sometimes (not always, because I don't like to generalize). Therefore, I find males (in any profession) sometimes more professional and more pleasant to work with as the jealousy among women can be very real.

Your hair is just hands down the one I've always hoped to see -- long 4b-c hair. I did a big chop two years ago, and my mum almost beat me (Kenyan mums) because I cut it. She always took my sister and I to the salon to get relaxers and one time I got burnt so bad I had a humongous scab on my crown for months. Now hair from my crown is down to my shoulder (she still urges me to go to the salon to get my hair done.... nope). It's amazing that you're here to encourage more girls and women to break out of the OnlyStraightIsbeautiful mentality and work with the nature they were born with. Thank you!! 😊

Good to see my naija sister repping us. You're proof that our hair can grow to even waist length.. I transitioned in Dec 2012, but my hair is still at armpit length, the same length since 2 years ago. I vowed to do more braids because I think that's what grows hair and you have re-affirmed it. I don't do much to my hair, i just leave it packed after wash day, i braid once or twice a year, hardly blow dry, always air dry and style whilst wet.. I'm changing some of those now. I think I've been short changing myself. Your hair is aww so gorgeous just like you.. And full.. You have the same hair texture as me. Thanks for sharing 😘

LOL! No actually when you reach your goal length, you sort of set another goal because then you want to challenge yourself and discover how long can my hair actually grow especially when becoming natural actually allows it to grow or to be retained better. I just had to see how long my nails would grow and now my hair I have never seen as long as it is now and if I could have retained the relaxed hair, I think it would be right below my hip.

I started my natural hair Journey in xxxx, I'm embarrassed to say, but before anyone, I knew did. And before youtube ladies came along. But I didn't know what to do with it 4c hair after I grew it, so I went to a stylist, and that was the worst thing I could have done. Every natural hair journey I had was impeded by a stylist, The first one told me a texturizer was not a chemical, (I trusted her) I did not know any better, my hair broke off. I waited two years and The next two cut my hair off when it was supposed to be trimmed, One about two years after I told her why I stopped going to the other. I found one I liked and she was flat ironing it, and had me coming back every two weeks so she could "train" my hair, with flat ironing which actually damaged my hair curl pattern and thinned out my hair so bad, I had to start over again That was it!. Finally, I realized stylist didn't, care about my hair. So I stopped going to stylists and waited for it to grow back, then started going to braiders, only to have them snatch and yank my hair out with fine tooth combs and rough handling, then on two different careless braiders cut my hair taking the braids out without checking the length that set me back twice more. Still not knowing how to care for my own hair, I made a few of my own mistakes and my hair would simply grow and break. Finally thanks to youtube Natural hair Queens, my hair is finally in recovery and down my back. I am afraid of stylist now. They seem to care more about wigs, sew-ins and perms. They don't seem to understand if I will pay $300 for a wig, how much would I pay for PROPER hair care of my own natural hair? I don't understand them. Every woman would prefer to have her own hair healthy. Thanks to all the beautiful women on you tube, I finally have my length back, and now the way to waist length by Christmas. I surely can understand how you felt to have your hair cut off by braiders, carelessly. Thanks for sharing.

Wow the stylist that cut your hair was most likely because of jealousy. Smh that happened to my oldest sister. The lady claimed to be only trimming the ends and cut her bra strap length hair to just below her shoulders. She was sneaky too because I was sitting there and it only looked like a little trim. Unbeknownst to us she had to keep cutting the pieces over and over because there was never a big length on the ground. We were teens and didn't know much about hair in the 90's. Our Mom always told us you can't trust everyone in your head.

Ms. Mommie I've been natural since 2009. The first stylist I ever went to cut 1 year of hair growth off in ONE TRIM!!! I vowed to never go again. Lo and behold, I discover Dominican salons and after 2 trips in only one year, I experienced excessive breakage, shedding...... even a missing patch of hair in the back!!! 😨Now I am slightly waist length and I always wonder where I'd be if I had never trusted the "professionals".

Efficiently Natural Very true, it's great to see the alternative. I'm so happy you've found so many styles for your natural texture too. It's all a part of the hair journey. Sad to say that you really do end up having to stay out of the beauticians chair to protect your hair. I was lucky and still have the beautician I've had since I was 12. Still even though she'll never whack my hair off, she began charging a whole lot more for my hair alone because it's so long and thick it takes up a good chunk of her time. That's when I really began to do my own hair, and the stage where you don't really know styles that allow your texture to shine can be a bit daunting.
@Msleelee94877 жыл бұрын
i transitioned for 13mths and the 2 textures drove me crazy although it was 6 ins because i had long hair i took a deep breath and cut off the permed hair and i had two cute afro puffs and i didn't freak out my daughter did ...lol my hair was back in a yr and thicker then after 3 yrs my hair wasn;t growing as fast i'm 5 yrs natural and should be waist length i'm close to bra length so i'm learning from ya and will use the protective styles to gain my length Thanks sis i enjoy this channel

Katrina Roc It's all about keeping them refreshed, which she stated she pretty much did. I can see that happening. I did my own micros and kept them in over a year and a half. Washed, conditioned, and refreshed. I am now starting to wear braids again being that I haven't worn them in a couple of years. It's so time consuming because I do my own. I stopped with braiders and stylists many years ago. First it was the stylists and then the braiders were cut off. Their work was sloppy and they loved cutting when there really wasn't a need for cutting.

Finally someone with my natural hair texture who is pretty much on the same path. I've been natural for since 2000 and my hair has not gone past my bra strap, and it always seem to get longer but the protective styles are my issue and I definitely think it has to be stretched out for me to protect the ends. I love the 3-6 month protective styling and retwisting the front. I'm a brand new subscriber but will be watching all of your videos. Thank you for sharing

I really loved this video. It was so encouraging to see that yes, you can grow long hair using braids and twists extensions because I've seen a lot of other naturals say that you can't because it's too hard to keep the hair moisturized.

Amazing journey! Less than 10 years and so much growth and retention even with that setback! I'm so glad I found your channel! There are two other ladies on KZbin I have found with hair similar to mine, but your hair looks like the closest hair twin I have found. I've been natural going on 16 year, done 3 big chops and a mini chop and been waist length 3 times, but always get a setback @ waist length. For instance, this past fall I made it to waist length again but difficult ends, SSKs, splits, and unevenness caused me to trim to BSL last month. But I know I have potential to be hip length or longer, because I was hip length as a child, relaxed. I just need to learn how to be more "efficient" with my hair, lol. I'm definitely going to be using your tips this year and see if i can at least make it back to waist length. Goal is tailbone length. I'm already rocking stretched twists using my own hair-so far so good. Hair is staying detangled and soft. Say, what is your porosity?

I just discovered your channel. I am so inspired by you.I've been natural 2 years.It's been slow going. I'm still trying to find a regimen that works for me. There have been many times where I get fed up and want to go back to a relaxer. Seeing what you have been able to achieve over time is helping me stay the course. Thank you. P.s. Love the song choice!

I LOVE your hair. I actually transitioned for the same reasons: I loved the look of flat ironed natural hair and I just couldn't retain my hair's thickness as it grew when I was relaxed. I initially thought that I wanted to be a straight-haired natural, but after a while, I feel in love with my coils and no longer had the desire to straighten as often. Thank you for posting and sharing your journey. It is very encouraging to see type 4s with beautiful long hair.

+marvinandjosh1 Thank you so much!!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who initially went natural because I wanted better looking straight hair. Lol! But it's definitely nice to be able to finally appreciate our natural hair after going through this process. Thanks for watching and stay blessed. 😊

Your hair is unbelievably gorgeous! I was wondering if you could do video of your wash day start to finish, and can you include how you stretch/style your hair on wash day? Also when you were transitioning how did you care for your hair in extensions?
@EfficientlyNatural8 жыл бұрын
+Ariel Tyler aww, thank you so much! I can definitely do a video like that - I've been planning on doing a wash day video for a while now. As for caring for hair in extensions, I kept things REALLY simple. I usually washed whenever I felt my scalp was visibly dirtying itchy. In between I sprayed with water/braid spray to moisturize and used an oil sheen type product every so often. I also went for long stretches at a time in extensions (sometimes up to 4-6 months) so I would often redo the front/visible parts of my hair when they started looking bad. When going for that long in extensions though, I think being careful during the take down process is just as important. Thanks so much for watching. 😀

Oh my!!! That's a lot of hair. Your hair was always long and just got longer when natural. It looked great for your whole lifetime. Honestly I don't know if I would have ever gone natural if my hair was as long as your relaxed hair was. 😍😍
@EfficientlyNatural8 жыл бұрын
+Aisa Kemp aww, thanks so much! I have to say, I actually enjoy my natural hair wayyyy more than my relaxed hair. I felt like I always had to keep it super straight, avoid water, etc.. The texture was also always weird and clumpy whenever I would wash it. Also, I feel like I could maintain good looking hair that seemed healthy for a little while, but then I would get random broken pieces over time. In the long run, I experienced so many pros after ditching the chemicals!

This video was recommended to me and I'm super happy it was! You have beautiful hair ❤ I've been natural for about 4 years and my hair is pretty long at this point. Not as long as yours but I hope to get there someday. :) but I'm having a hard time retaining length because of the ssk's I get. So I might try blowing out my hair to stretch it better and see if that helps. Tfs 😊
@EfficientlyNatural7 жыл бұрын
+Briana Samuels, thank you so so much! Congrats on your 4 year natural hair journey! I'm definitely an advocate for stretching as much as possible to reduce SSKs. Let me know how it works for you!

new stubby today after seeing this video you give me hope. I've gained the confidence and self esteem when I did the big chop. Wish I had seen this before I did the hard transition but wouldn't change anything. All positive lessons learned. Thank you

Your hair is beautiful! I use to relax my hair (from a teenager until 5+ yrs ago) and I love being natural because you get to learn your hair all over again and the journey is interesting and fun. That last side by side pic of you relaxed and natural, the natural hair is better. Relaxers ( although makes hair easier to maintain, it adds toxins in our body and stress on your hair if it didn't eat it up) Congrats on the graduation 🎓& marriage👥

+curli-lettey, that's exactly what I enjoyed about my hair journey - discovering and learning how to care for this completely different hair texture. Lol, marriage and graduation seem to come all at once but it was great- thank you!!! I truly appreciate you checking out my channel! 😊

I'm so happy 😍 you realized the importance of protective styling 😎 hair grows quick when you leave it alone. I did a video 🎬 on my channel about that. In 1 yr I went from a big chop ✂️with no hair to hair down my back all in 1 yr. Great video

That's a lot of hair!😜 New Subbie here :-) Looking forward to following your journey. I'm 10 months natural...twa. I'm currently wearing wigs until my hair grow to a length where I feel comfortable wearing it out and managing it. I thought about alternating with braids but after seeing your experience with your hair being cut I'm VERY hesitant to do so 😕. My hair is currently thriving under the wigs so I think I'll just leave well enough alone.
@EfficientlyNatural8 жыл бұрын
+Savvy Sion thanks for watching! You know, after that hair braiding experience I never went to another professional braider again. If you are interested in braids, I'd suggest doing them yourself. But its great that your hair is already thriving under wigs!!! Best of luck on your journey!
