I live in MN so I'm used to this kind of weather. I have to say I've never gotten stuck and I don't even have 4 wheel drive. Just knowing which way to turn the wheel and how much gas to give it make a big difference.

It might also help to know whether a car is front or rear wheel drive, so you know where to scrape the ice and snow away for best traction.

Well AWD helps but as you said it's not needed, what I see in this clip she has a FWD and that's good for snow as the engine weight helps the front tires grip. The only thing I would if I could suggest to the driver is to take your time and go slow, if you spin the wheel you create heat and the snow turns to ice as well you're digging a hole. (p.s.) Right tires helps as well you're right about that.

Ah. I have no idea of where it is, it just looked like a regular-day weather as they seemed to have the ice pick and shovel thing at hand and were experienced at shovelling it away, so it did not seem to be an unusual-weather day. Seems unusual to need to carry an ice scraper if you don't get much snow. Obviously I'm only judging from one video as I don't live in that weather. Nice guy to help her out, not that I heard any thanks or anything.

Someone blathered something about most vehicles in Canada being 4WD, which as a Canadian I can tell you is complete garbage. Also the ONLY place in Canada which regulated the use of winter tires is Quebec, so it isn't "many" places. This lady did pretty good considering she had lower profile summer tires, and she couldn't back straight up due to the bank on the other side. Those of you talking about shoveling the snow behind her rear tires, it was that snow that was stopping the car from moving and causing the back tires to spin. Basically, get over yoruselves and come up here for a winter and see how you fair, I would be more than happy to get behind the wheel of your car and drive it out after you spend 20 minutes spinning your tires.

I'd still prefer an AWD, in general driving around snowy / icy roads. I did realise a good run-up would've helped, but it is hard to do without risking the car sliding sideways into another car, and maybe there are other cars parked across the driveway behind her.

1. buy AWD 2. put snow under the front tires, if you have FrWD, snow gives grip, ice does not.

I have a 4WD SUV what she did was good. I have been driving for a little while and I have never really been stuck beside once with a car that wasn't 4WD. My SUV is stuck in ice kinda like her situation. I can't even get out. Instead of judging people why not see it from their point of view. I've never really drove in the winter. I've always had help. I don't have winter tires and mine suck but I can't afford new ones. I learned from my mistake of not learning about winter weather and how not to be stuck. Why give her shit when she could have been in the same boat? Maybe she wasn't alone during adulthood and had someone help her every winter before she could go do something herself? Stop judging her. I think she did wonderful on her own and that other person helping was wonderful as well.

At least she's not timid about revving it when she needs to. Just needs to be less shy about gunning a bit of a run-up. THIS is why women should serve in the military. It works out most of this helpless "come save me" nonsense because confidence comes from being challenged and actually succeeding with self-sufficiency. She should have a shovel in her trunk, not a stick with a handle, for starters. She also should have grabbed those snow chunks herself right off the bat.
