Wow! I bought an EZ Sport CX, brand new, in the mid 1990's. Yours looks identical to mine, right down to the handlebar grips. Hard to believe that Sun hasn't upgraded any of the features of this bike in over 30 years! That small front wheel makes the EZ Sport rather twitchy - I much prefer riding my tadpole trikes these days (but still have the Sun as it was my very first recumbent).

Hope you like it. I test rode one back in about 2002. I liked the Easy Racer Gold Rush better. Similar design but lighter and with better components. But even that one's frame flexed too much for my taste. My Bacchetta Bella is stiffer.

I looked into the Bacchetta Bella, but did not find any availability options at the time. I found my former Easy Racers Gold Rush steering not to my liking, too twitchy for me, so this time around, I chose a LWB recumbent bike that was also designed by Gardner Martin (same man who mad the Gold Rush for record speed trials), but his intent was to make a version of his earlier design that was more user friendly in the steering department. This bike is 40 pounds, so yes, heavier than my Gold Rush was. steve

@@EZSteve I agree. That's why I sold it and got a SWB Giro, then swapped it for the LWB Bella. Happy riding!

@@KutWrite Do you find the steering on the Bella twitchy or what some would see as too fast and hard to control? Did it take some time to get used to it, or did you fall right into it easily based on your Gold Rush experience? I have thought about SWB bikes, but there are many factors that seem not so ideal in my mind when compared to LWB. steve

@@EZSteve I didn't see it as twitchy. I came from the Giro SWB, though, which was a bit twitchy and interfered with my heels if I wasn't careful. For me, the Gold Rush wasn't so much twitchy as "floppy." The turning axis of the front wheel was offset from its point of contact with the ground, so the front wanted to "flop" in the direction I started to turn the handlebars. That may have felt "twitchy" to you. The SWB is by nature shorter in length, so a slight turn of the bars meant an instant reaction from the bike. This was fine in town, but going over about 10mph it took some getting used to. My trike is similar, so it may replace my Bella on the training stand for indoor use. The Bella strikes me as a nice leisurely cruiser, on pavement only, of course. The frame is stiffer than the Gold Rush, which is good for transferring pedaling force but gives a slightly bumpier ride. Not much, though. Hope that helps!

@EZSteve Ай бұрын
@@KutWrite YES, floppy is an apropos word to describe the Gold Rush steering, actually better than twitchy. In my writing and talks, I have described how the Gold Rush front wheel kind of falls over to the side when turned, which I believe is due to the way the forks are curved forward at the bottom. On mine, when turning in tight areas, I found that I had to actually muscle the handlebars back into the straight forward position, which I did not find to my liking. This EZ Sport has more traditional style forks, without such a drastic curve near the bottom as the Gold Rush, so the wheel does not feel like it is falling to the side, or floppy. I tried a SWB recumbent once about ten years ago. It had under-seat steering, which felt very nice and natural, but wow, talk about a learning curve, and just being able to start pedaling and riding if not used to it, haha. Practice makes perfect on a bike like that! This EZ Sport frame is pretty stiff, heavier of course than the Gold Rush aluminum frame. steve

Nice! Those Sun Seekers have always been intriguing to me, but I'm too tall for them. I think they max out at 46 inseam and I need 48.

Yes, the X-Seam range according to the company is 36" to 45". My X-Seam falls within that range. This LWB recumbent bike is 5 inches shorter overall than the Easy Racers Gold Rush that I used to own. For me, it's perfect, but if I really wanted to recline the seat back more, I would run into issues with the panniers fitting on the rear rack due to the seat struts that begin to overlap the rack as the seat is reclined more and more. When I had the seat all the way rearward at first, my feet were too far from the pedals, so I moved it forward a bit. Sun Bicycles was started in 1971 by a family, based in Miami, Florida, so they've been around 53 years. From what I can see on my bike, I am impressed with the quality and design. In 2014, Sun split into two divisions, the second (Sunseeker) being the one that handles the recumbent line-up. This bike I have was introduced in 2004, designed by Gardner Martin, the same man who designed the Easy Racers Gold Rush back in the latter 1970s to set bike speed records. He designed this bike I have now as a LWB that is easier for most people to ride than the more radical Gold Rush. He succeeded. It is easier to adapt to than the Gold Rush. steve

You look to old to be on a 2 wheeler, hope you have good health insurance. I'm 73 and will never get back on a killer 2 wheeler. I no longer have neck pain, shoulder pain, both upper back and lower back pain, no more wrist pain, No More Balance issues and most of all health wise Bruising between the legs which can cause blood clots. I love my Catrike Dumont Trike.

Yep, I"m too old to ride a bicycle! Do you know of anyone who might like to buy it? So far, there are zero miles on it, a 2024 in "factory perfect" condition. I chose recumbent over traditional bike because of all the reasons you mention. Recumbent bikes are just as comfortable as recumbent trikes, and I too would not prefer a regular bicycle. Catrikes are great trikes ... I loved my Catrike 700!!! Oh, and by the way, I don't carry any health insurance, but I do wear a full coverage BELL MIPS helmet instead of a typical helmet that only covers the top of a head. I think I may have been having a senior moment when I ordered this young person's recumbent cycle, haha. steve
@The-GreenHornet
@The-GreenHornet Ай бұрын
@SFCRambo60, I agree with all that you said. I also loved Steve's recumbent trikes. For all the reasons he has previously mentioned over the years in his videos and articles. Stability, extra width and more easily seen by traffic on the roads riding a recumbent trike. Traffic also interprets recumbent trike riders as being handicapped so they are extra careful when approaching trikes in their automobiles (most of them are, the responsible drivers anyway) which means safer situations. Laid back and able to see more around you while riding, due to not having to worry about balance, ever. And the list goes on. WHO CARES if people think riding a recumbent trike is for either old or handicapped people. I'm neither, and I could care less what others think of me when I'm enjoying my recumbent trike. If Steve is truly happy with this new recumbent bicycle, then I'm glad for him, but I remember how much he used to talk up about recumbent trikes. I was quite shocked when he was selling his HP VELOTECHNIK SCORPION trike for a recumbent bicycle. Balance is the key factor and Trikes are just plain FUNNER! haha.

@@The-GreenHornet Maybe it's time to try a Utah Trikes quad? I've had 8 two and three wheeled cycles since 2009, but no 4 wheel rigs yet. Back in late 2008 when I first was setting up for touring, a quad is what I had in mind, and I was going to build a structure on top for sleeping. steve

@@garyseckel295 I was just being facetious Gary, in response to the initial comment that inferred that my age had something to do with not being able to ride a bicycle, and needing good health insurance. I rode my Specialized Roll Elite bicycle for four years prior to my acquisition of the HP Scorpion, and my age did not seem to be a limiting factor then, so I doubt it will be now. In answer to your question, this is a real nice bike, and a comfy recumbent no less, so I am excited about getting out and riding it (once the weather clears up and the roads are finally dry). steve
